The cpe puts out more power than the cobb for sure but I dont think that small difference is worth $150, plus you have the danger of hydrolock with the cai. I know when I put my cobb on I noticed a nice difference (seat of the pants/2nd gear tires break loose which never did when stock)and it sounds cool.

I dont see any concern with hydrolock. I keep hearing this and it rarely happens asnd only to idiots who try to cross a river in their car. If youre crossing water that is higher than your foglights, we need to smack you!

How about when you are in a sudden thunder storm and you drive through dip in the road which you cant see due to heavy rain. The fog lights arent really far up, maybe a foot. Not worth the risk for me, I dont even want to think about it. I am neurotic by nature though.

And the CP-E intake curves upwards, to raise the filter up from the bottom of the wheel well. (For added reduction of hydrolock chance).

I haven't personally heard a damn thing from them. You may want to contact Palerider as he is the contact for CPE.

Cobb is working on a cold air box for their SRI. They haven't announced pricing or anything yet, but it is on it's way. Personally, I went with Cobb b/c I can't see spending what CPE wants for an intake. My wife almost pulled the "We're having a baby" card on me when I ordered the Cobb. She would have split my skull if I'd ordered the CPE.

Of course, if you want the absolute most gains, you could get a 3-inch "Y" adapter and run both the CPE AND Cobb. That would like double the gains for each and net you another 100 HP and 125 ftlbs at the wheels.

I bought Laloosh's CP-E CAI, and I found that it was a very nice piece. Gains are very noticeable, and it was very well built.

I really like the fact that it has the proper MAF dia, which prevents running lean like most other MAFs.

My LTFT's are typically about -5, which is a hell of a lot safer than the +10 that some CAI's end up with due to too large dia.

One thing I am curious about is has anyone blown a motor with a CP-E intake? Most that I see that blow seem to be MS CAI, which is known to run significantly leaner than stock/CP-E.

Does anyone run the CPE in snowy and rainy climates. I would like to purchase one but am concerned about possible filter placement for our Toronto weather, don't want to risk khydro-locking the 3. Does anyone have pics of the placement??

I drive in rain all the time.

In fact, I have had a CAI on all of my cars since 1998 with almost 200k miles of use with zero issues. This includes torrential downpours.

As long as you don't get the filter submerged (as in drive through ~18'' deep water), it is a non-issue.

No mention of the FUJITA CAI?

Which intakes have straighteners and which don't?

Laloosh said it awhile back. When you start modding more you are going to want an intake that keeps your fuel trims in check. In my opinion the only option would be the Cobb SRI and the CP-E CAI. When it comes to Cobb Im not too sure why anyone would spend that amount of money on a silicone couple and a filter. Just doesnt make sense to me. Yes CP-E's CAI is expensive, just like all of there stuff but Ive had the MS, TXS, and now CP-E CAI and the CP-E stands alone in quality, fitment, and performance. As far as filter placement. CP-E designed their intake so that the filter is angled up right after that pipe clears the fender wall.

People talk so much about hydrolocking. As long as I have been around cars I have never known anyone who has even known anyone that hydrolocked their car. Driving in the rain does not cause hydrolocking. Now when its raining out and there is 2ft of standing water that you decide to drive through, then yes you may hydrolock. It does not occur unless the filter is completely enveloped in water. Now, if you are still concerned about water getting into your CAI then buy one of the prefilters which will prevent water that is spashed onto the filter from even reaching the filter element.

Check out post #6

MazdaSpeed 2.3L DISI Turbo Blown Engine Resource Thread

A guy at Cpe told me in person it doesnt really matter what filter you have if it gets fully submerged you are screwed. All it takes is a sudden thunder storm and a dip or hole in the road you cant see.

CPE is the best intake but hydrolock is a real thing to consider.

I'm running the Injen and had it on a dyno last week to check out the boost, afr's etc.
Afr's are pretty good. At WOT in 4th it goes from 12.5-1 @2000rpm down to 11.0-1 @6000rpm.
Boost goes from 16-14psi, but as mentioned I don't think that I can safely add any more mods in particular boost as I wouldn't want it any leaner.
