It's about 2 hours south. I know of them. I think they even made a few, but were not cheap.

Darth_Nuruodo 10-23-2014 03:07 PM

Anything has to be cheaper than the $950 insurance paid for my driver side...

Is your axle made of gold? $950?! That's ridiculous

I'm betting that subtotal includes the "o/h lt side suspension" 3.3 hrs labor in that total. whatever the hell o/h means overhaul possibly?

Darth_Nuruodo 10-25-2014 02:28 PM

Labor is totaled separately, left column is part cost per line item, right column is labor cost per line item. That next one down is overhaul left suspension labor, yes.

I was going to store the MS3 for the winter this year because I needed to replace the axel and I didnt want to fork over the money for it yet and laziness. After considering ppl have been ok with these and my friends bf works at a shop. I think I will have to order these and just drive the MS3 for its 3rd winter with me! woo thanks for the awesome find!

mr.speedy3 12-30-2014 09:47 AM

Bump.. need a driver side so I'll throw this in mine and see how they hold up against 500hp.. lol

Bumpity bump bump

So, long story short, my wheel bearing is bad. Got a new one, got it pressed in, still have play in the wheel. Sad fucm it, but a gen2 knuckle assembly with ~20 or 40k miles (I forget tbh). Put that in WITH the dca axle, and have no issues. So, that means the knuckles are identical between gen1 and 2. I also took a few slight measurements. Not 100% accurate, had gloves on and my phone was a bitch. But you get the point.

Now... Let's see how long it takes 500 hp at 28psi to crinkle can this axle...

Dang, really wanna know if they are exchangeable

mr.speedy3 01-06-2015 08:34 PM

I'd say potentially.. I have a spare axle now.. So next time we have a pu pulling an axle I can compare the splines.

Wait.. are we trying to determine if gen1 axles fit into a gen2 tranny @Raider? I swear I've read of people swapping trannies for the longer gears on the pu's. Or maybe that was something people have just thought of?

Darth_Nuruodo 01-07-2015 09:21 AM

The transmissions ate definitely interchangeable, couple locals swapped a while back. I don't know if they kept their original axles or swapped those too but I'm certain it didn't involve a knuckle swap.

Edit: talked to one of them and he said from what he remembered they kept their same axles; he has a pu they put the gen 1 trans in.

Gen 2 and gen 1 axles are interchangeable.

I have a gen2 drivers side current in my gen1.They probably arent going to make either side different.

Dumbguy 01-15-2015 03:23 PM

Anyone have first hand experience putting one of these on the passenger side of a pu? Or am I going to have to be the test subject?

Just out of curiosity I wonder what the differences are since they have different part numbers, if any would would like to shed light on it :)

taf0422 01-16-2015 11:29 AM

There numerous part numbers for these axles. Even numerous ones within the same year.

I have had axles that the center section is massively solid the whole length between boots, others that are smaller in only the center but on the ends are larger right before the boots and others that are small on one side through the center and the axle closest to the hub boot gets larger

mini necro on this thread;

so my cv boot shit the bed a couple of weeks ago, and after going back and forth with trying to fix the boot, I said fuck it, and removed the whole axle (drivers side). I will say this, after being an idiot and trying to take a shortcut by fixing the boot only, I realized I should've just listened to what I read many times on almost all threads I found: fuck fixing the boot, just replace the axle (in case any one else googles this).

anyways, back to the point. I went ahead and ordered the axle from the link provided on post #1 , and went to town on my pu. Everything went smoothly. axle went right in, everything buttoned up nicely, and I took it for a test drive. so far I've put about 120 miles on, and no clicking or clunking. this was installed on a genpu speed.

here are some pics for comparison between the stock axle and the DTA one. the DTA axle is the one with the plastic underneath it. I am no materials expert, but it looks like the boots are made from a different material on the DTA axle. The stock boot is pretty fucking hard, this one seems a little flimsier than the stock. Not knocking it down by any means, it's been solid so far. Hopefully it will last a while.

tldr; axle fits in pu, has been solid so far.

Keep us updated! Cause I'm going to be in the market for one soon

Just purchased a set for a GenOne. Not sure if this is the same kind @phate; put on here but the ones he did started leaking last October. Lasted many trips to the Dragon so it was strong while it lasted.

I never replaced them, so they're the originals.

mr.speedy3 02-17-2015 04:11 PM

Small update.. Still holding 500hp @28psi with no issues. That's with hard launching practice too lol.

OT, but why in the world would you want the shorter gears from the gen1?

Autocross?

Not so sure either, I love my MS6! My wife PU, well I love that tranny; would much rather have it in the 6 for sure. Back on subject any word for the rear axle for the 6? That drive side doe?

I don't have the plan. But big demand for rear axles for that model?
My recpommendation is to message them on ebay. DriveTech America, LLC - Home is the company. Call them 770.248.4188. If they get the demand, they can make em.

The other guy wanted the pu transmission, not the other way around. The pu owner didn't mind taking the shorter gears, but he didn't set out to get them.

Just placed an order I don't think I couldve waited another two weeks to get these. Driver side boot has been leaking for a while now..lol

Raider 03-19-2015 07:26 AM

Well, 6 months later, I still have not installed mine. But when the clutch is replaced on 4/12, this will go in. Debating just swapping both at the same time when only 1 is leaking.

ItsNox 03-19-2015 08:42 AM

Holy shit these guys are like 25 miles from me!

You need to seriously go there to let them know how much they need to make MS6 rear axles, too.

CaptainCode 03-19-2015 08:55 AM

Damn these cost $127USD to ship to Canada

I suppose even with that, it's still cheaper than buying from the dealership.

darth_speeder 03-19-2015 09:20 AM

better than the dealer indeed, those fuckers quoted me at over 1k, just for one side. I don't even know if that included labor..

I just stopped being lazy did it on my own, saved myself that money for hookers and blow

It didn't include much, cause when I looked at the invoice after insurance repaired my car last fall the part cost from Mazda was over $900 for the driver side axle

@djern; here is the thread I mentioned before.

Raider 04-13-2015 12:22 PM

And thanks for posting. New axle on driver's side is in. Comes with a new nut, too. Sadly, passenger is clocked into the hub 1/2 thread, totally jammed. Will get to replace the whole hub and axle when that one does. Fits, quiet, and so far so good.

Figgattt 06-08-2015 09:34 AM

How many gen 2 guys are running this driver side axle? I just installed mine Saturday and have only put 50 miles on it and I have a small clicking noise when staring to move. Install went smooth so don't know if i just got a bad one or is this common. Also kind of curious why the Mazda part# is different for gen 1 and 2 but this works for both?
