2nd gear

Just purchased an 07 mazdaspeed 3 bone stock. On a dead stop I gun it 1st gear is good but when shifted to 2nd it hesitates then it goes other than that the ms3 performs nice. Is that normal , new to the Mazda game, used to be in honda. Any advice thanks.

I believe a RMM will cut down some of that sloppiness going into 2nd.

You mean the engine hesitates? Like you dropped out of boost while shifting? It sounds like you are shifting slow, dropping out of boost then it "hesitates" as you wait for it to spool.

I know the basics of how a turbo works. That sounds exactly what's happing. So I need to shift faster

It's either that or you are getting some KR

Does the same thing occur when you shift to 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th

Also, If you have DSC set to "on" the car may be trying to break loose when second comes around and the Traction control is working for a moment. When I FIRST got my car I went to give a buddy of mine a ride in it and when I jerked it back into 2nd gear the car did the same thing as yours is doing. We both noticed it and wondered why it felt like the power had been cut and then all of a sudden came rushing in. I turned off the DSC and it broke loose some, but took next to no time to spool and begin pushing me into the seat.

Just a thought...

I have a DSC button. So what does that stand for.

DSC controls your traction and will stop your wheels from spinning which will make your car feel like it lost it's power. The ECU controls your car regardless of how hard you push on your gas pedal. If you have DSC turned on, it will disrupt your power. Turn it off and you will spin your tires and make 1st gear fucking suck and second gear feel like it's raping your butthole, lol!

If you do decide to turn it off...feather the throttle in first with clutch slipping so you don't spin to much and then slap that bitch in second and let her have at it...keep the pedal to the floor going through the rest of the gears and enjoy how fucking awesome our cars are :aargh4:

turn off traction control and keep your foot down on the gas while u powershift the fuck outta it.

in before "can't shift into second gear without grinding " thread.

untouched ecu and bone stock ms3 will not knock unless you put 91 piss gas in it or some shiety 93 .

for some1 to notice the power loss by knock , you would have to make ur car knock like 10*
i been there done that. When i was knocking 6* by redline, i berly felt it, but i bet i lost shiet load of power there.Op needs to learn how to drive and turn off that traction control.

Factory intake has more down low grunt than the aftermarkets do. Powerband shifts up when you swap them out. I'll never forget the first time I ripped through the gears in mine. Spun first and second and barked third. I about shit myself I was so stoked. Hasn't happened since I put the MS-CAI on it. More up top, but lost some of that grunt.

Yup. Not for long though. Next purchase is accessport so I can do some logging and find out what kind of shape she's in then start getting first hand experience tuning while I find a shop to build her properly.

metalmatt 09-22-2011 10:50 PM

Will someone explain to me the advantages of flat-foot shifting on the stock tune? We lose power wayyy before redline..

It doesn't matter what tune you have or where your power band ends. You flat foot shift so you don't drop out of boost. If you do ffs right it takes like .2 seconds.

True, but on the street is it worth the extra drivetrain stress? Getting that extra .1 out of your E/T on the strip, definitely.

To me, not worth it on the street even if done right. Hard on the synchos due to the quick shift and a hard shock to everything when you come off the clutch quick at WOT.
