What type did you order?I think I read that you were thinking about going with the 6 puck instead of the street version.I ordered the 6 puck sprung a few days ago.

I'm most likely getting a 6 puck sprung, It may arive as a street disk(its a long sotry). Still havent gotten it my tracking number said its on a local truck friday for delivery but still nothing.

im jus curious, how long do mazdaspeed clutches last? On average, how many miles can i expect to get out of it before i would have to replace it.

SharkDiver 03-10-2009 09:52 AM

It all depends on how you drive it.It could last 100k miles or it could last 20k miles..Im at 43k on my car and it isnt really slipping yet but its close.

gsrtype1 03-10-2009 10:39 AM

Should have it today...:)

Thanks yeah I orderd that one, i'll hit you up if I don't get it. But according to fedex its here the delay is becuase it was shipped directly from act(through maperformance he got it shipped from there so I would get it sooner) and act told fedex they wanted me to sign for it but I cleared that up where they can leave it with my apt.

gsrtype1 03-11-2009 08:31 AM

first post updated with pics!!!

gsrtype1 03-11-2009 10:50 AM

Props to Chris over at Maperofrmance he reeally went the extra mile to get me this as soon as possible! thats why I am one of the first speeds to get one!...:) There was a delay like 8 weeks as most of you know but that was becuase ACT did not have parts.

Soon I needs to make some money, David at mazda3mods offered me a sweet deal on install so I'm thinking he can do it. Might be able to do it this weekend or next.

superskaterxes 03-11-2009 04:10 PM

You have PM, and weigh the flywheel already. :wink1:

Can someone explain if removing the daul mass flywheel and replacing it with a single mass flywheel will cause damaging vibrations from the DI engine to harm the drivetrain?

All Vibrations that the daul mass fly wheel was dampening, have now been transfered to the springs on the clutch disk.

gsrtype1 03-12-2009 10:09 AM

Forgot to wieght the flywheeil i'll try to do it on my lunch break or tonight.

From what i've been told thats a myth. Yeah youll get more gear noise but it deosn't damage the gears.

gsrtype1 03-12-2009 12:31 PM

I can send in the 6 puck disk for a street disk for $50 bucks more i'm thikning of doing that cuase Ive read 6 puck are too agressive and don't last as long what you guys think?

SharkDiver 03-12-2009 03:28 PM

THat street disk is not rated for enough Tq for our cars it seems.I bet you are putting about 340-350Tq to the crank and that is pretty much the limit of that clutch.I dont know what you should do but I dont know why they dont have a non-puck version that can hold more power,It dont seem to make sence to me.

I made 291whp with a slipping clutch so im probably at 340tq at the wheels rite now, but the dude at act said there ratings are real conservative numbers. I told them that and they seemed to think it would be fine.

gsrtype1 03-13-2009 09:05 AM

Ok I wieghed the flywheel this morning the best I can tell it wieghs 14lbs with the wrapping on.

Crossbow 03-13-2009 09:46 AM

Here's the video I posted about Dual-Mass Flywheels on the Speed6 Flywheel thread.

How Dual-Mass Flywheels Work
http://www.zf.com/multimedia/zmsFunk...nglisch_V3.wmv

Basically the stronger springs in the clutch disk should absorb any driveline vibrations that would have transferred.

So you think the single-mass act flywheel with have exsessive vibrations?

Crossbow 03-13-2009 10:00 AM

No. Though it will have more vibrations then with a Dual mass flywheel in place. It's not going to cause driveline damage or anything. Might just feel a bit more vibration through the shifter, I doubt it would really be noticeable. I never saw anyone on the 6 forums complain when replacing the 25 lb stock flywheel with 9 lb fidanza's.

Though it's still something to keep in mind. You take out the BSD, you install all new engine mounts, you stiffen up the suspension, you replace the flywheel...the car's going to have way more vibrations then a stock one. All the mods will definitely add up over time.

Yeah good point, therers going to be more vibrations with racing stuff so it no big deal. I'm still trying to decide wether to send in my pcuk disk for a street disk.

gsrtype1 03-13-2009 01:15 PM

Well I sent in the 6 puck disk to ACT to trade in for a street disk on my lunch break. I probably would have liked the 6 puck but from what ive read and heard the street disk is still nice and aggressive without chatter and good traffic ability so I decided to go with that.

skeeter149 03-13-2009 02:38 PM

well lemme know how it feels when its in, will it gain or lose drivability? just give impressions friend:)

Will do, hopefully its installed by the end of next week! :)

cld12pk2go 03-13-2009 02:56 PM

I had a puck style disk in my previous vehicle for 70,000 miles and hated the fucking chatter when slipping the clutch below 2k rpms.

I think you will be glad you got the full face disk. I know that is what I will get when the time comes...

Yeah after researching I think the street disk just makes so much more sense, Its $50 bucks more but I think its well worth it.

LBV 03-13-2009 06:43 PM

Thx for weighing that flywheel ... close to the official weight of 15.75 lbs.
