Default Anybody have an SLS test pipe?

Yeah so I just bought a SLS Test pipe off E-bay, seemed like a good deal 139.99-shipped. Please share you experience with install, impressions after install, etc.

MAZDA SPEED 3 TEST PIPE MS3 MAZDASPEED SPEED3 TESTPIPE:eBay Motors (item 130334456093 end time Oct-02-09 1551 PDT)

FULL 3" MANDREL BENT TEST PIPE

HIGH TEMP CERAMIC COATED

Don't get tricked into buying a cheap stainless steel one. Why run the risk of it cracking?

This test pipe replaces the 2nd cat and will NOT trip any Check Engine Lights.

Perfect fitment, Easy 30 minute install, greatly increases air flow and produces more horse power.

Bolts directly up to the stock factory pipe.

I used quality piece? Why is the SLS not a quality piece? It's high temp ceramic coated. Plus I heard the CS pipe leaks and has fitmit issues, etc.

Dont buy a cheap stainless one? WTF that small length of stainless alone is probably $70. Why ceramic coat that part I dunno? Maybe to hide the fact it could be mild steel? Let us know how it works out. Good deal if it doesnt leak. I've run both CS and SU. The new CS design is ala SU design which seems to work best.

I'm not sure, the only thing I can think of is maybe it helps keep with durability and exhaust temps down? But yeah it's not like a really technical piece or anything so as long as it fits and doesn't break it should be okay... I hope. I drove my buddy Zaks (240mazspd3) car that has a race pipe and love it so I just had to get on.

I bought the SpeedAction test pipe. It's stainless and was well made. No fitment issues other than having to trim the inner diameter of the lead gasket they supplied with it, but if I had to do it again knowing that, I'd just get one from Mazda. Not sure why their's didn't fit over the factory downpipe. Other than that, it's a good buy. I'm not so sure about the ceramic coated one above. That just means it's most likely painted steel tubing, which means the inside of it will rust. I doubt it's coated on the inside too and with the heat, the coating probably won't last anyway. I'd stick with SS when it comes to the exhaust.

If youve been on these forums for any length of time you should know just about every vendor for the ms3/6 since it is a small community. That being said Ive never heard or sls and would stay away from it. Ebay is a good source for name brands at a discount price, not x brand parts though.

sorry but thats far from true. there are many off brandproducts on Ebay that are great. lots of off brand products off ebay end up being carbon copies of name brand products. so im not sure where you are getting that from.

you just have to sort that bad ebay products from the good ones.

i have ebay springs on my car. and have had them for 16k miles without any issues.

some of the Ebay tp's are great. the ebay dp is great which is a carbon copy of CPE's DP, etc

if its a carbon copy why are people having fitment issues? Im a firm believer in you have to pay to play. If the test pipe fits great, but if your going to cheap out on it why not go to a muffler shop having a steel test pipe made and ceramic coat it. Out the door it would cost you 50-70. The reason some of these products cost more may be, because they use stainless steel parts, welds, and actually know how to weld too.

How do you determine whats a quality x brand ebay product or not? Im for one am tired of being the guinea pig, so I save my money and buy a quality product that holds a warrentee that will actually be honored.

Who would take care of you or your car if your ebay springs crapped out and caused an accident?

Okay again, how is the sls test pipe not a quality product? It is a name brand SLS PERFORMANCE

Website: http://www.slsperformance.com/slsp/
Even PG carries it : http://www.protegegarage.com/product...oducts_id=1413 $179.99
They got a forum out as well: http://www.slsperformance.com/forum/default.asp

i said that some ebay brand products end up being carbon copies of name brand ones. i didnt say all.

you determine it by purchasing it and using it. time will tell how it holds up. so thats how you determine whether its quality or not.

thats why you allow other people to be the guinea pigs and await their impressions of something instead of being the first to give something a try

and how many name brand products have taken a crap? plenty. so its not about name at the end of the day, its about quality

Car Insurance.

Do you think companies like Eibach or H&R will give two shits about what happens if you use their springs?

If the world worked that way, then cobb would be going out of business with replacing MS3 engines due to their shitty Cobb AP tunes.

Epic.

A test pipe shouldn't cost $200+. It's a friggen $35-40 piece of stainless tubing with two flanges welded to it. You can buy a whole cat-back exhaust for $500 that actually has a few bends, a muffler and an exhaust tip. There's not much R&D/labor that goes into making a test pipe.

Wow! On your speed3? How bad can a piece of pipe be?? There's no "hanger" on this piece that I can tell, just a pipe with flanges at the ends. You guys are scaring me lol!

I had an SLS test pipe and never had a problem with it. No leaks. I sold it when I got my Cobb DP.

I just put on the newly revised Corksport about two week ago. I thought the fitment was very good and no leaks so far. It was 149 shipped when I got it. So far I'm real happy with it.

Not to change the subject or anything but regarding ebay, I saw a guy selling a PTP PCV turbo smoking washer thing. It didn't sell at $25/free shipping so he re-listed it at $10. With $18 for shipping.

I posted SLS a question on the ebay website and this ia the answer I got... I truely feel a ceramic coated pipe is better because the coating will keep in the heat and heated gasses flow better. frig it I am buying one too!!!

We are the original builders of the speed3 test pipe. All others are copied from our design. We have been building them since the first speed 3 was introduced.
There are no hangers & no need for gaskets. Other products with gaskets simply mean they do not have the correct flanges or sockets.

We use a ball & socket style fittings the socket fits the upper stock gasket and the ball will fit in the cat back socket just like the stock gasket would. These kind of exhaust joints have been used for years on vehicles like the ford mustang along with many others.

Thank you for your questions and happy bidding.

Yea MAN and let me know the size bolts you went with on the cat back connection. I have always used copper hi heat form a gasket from permatex on some exhaust connections, it's good stuff!!! You are running a stock MS3 exhaust now , Is that a correct statement
