Default Automatic transmission conversion

I searched for automatic + transmission and came up dry, so two questions.

1) Is there an automatic transaxle that will handle this engine?
2) Has anybody ever done this swap?

It is much easier to boost load with an automatic, so it might be beneficial for you dragracers.
I'm getting lazy in my old age and sometimes I just don't feel like shifting, plus I have forced myself to accept that I am too damn slow and I'd be faster in just about every way with an automatic.
So, has it been done? Can it be done and have the tranny survive if the engine is modded?

It isn't about balls. I'm too fucking slow. By the time I realize someone is passing me that I don't want passing me and downshift, it's too damned late and they're by me. I'd be better off with a slush box so I can just stand on it and the car'll take care of the downshift. I fully realize that it wouldn't be the same on winding roads, but hey, life is a series of compromises.

you can get away with only using 3rd gear....unless you have to start uphill. your clutch will hate you and so will your gas mileage, but no more shifting!

They are being snarky but honest, bud. A manual to auto conversion would cost you enough to just replace the car, even if it could be done. Some things you probably aren't considering: finding an auto tranny that would even mount to this engine, fabbing mounts for that bitch, linkage from hell, rewiring for the tranny, a computer that would actually control it.

Summary: not even worth considering. Get a different car. If you stick with a Mazda you can even post here to get advice on it once you do.

haha I've become a total manual snob since getting this car. First thing I look at and sneer at when I look at cars at a car show, etc. is whether it's manual or auto.

But I love this car! I guess I'll just have to make so much power that it doesn't matter if somebody gets the jump on me.
I think I just doubled my $5000 budget.

I don't drive too slow. Trust me, nobody ever road my tail trying to get me to move.
I think the problem is the time between "that jackass is actually trying to pass me now? What the hell is he thinking?" and translating that into action. The actual shift isn't that bad.
I quite clearly did not blame the car. As I said, "I'm too fucking slow". I did not knock the car. I've had it since 2007, and as I also said, "I love this car".

Actually I have never heard that saying. Any Mazda auto you slap in there is not going to be a high performance, quick, DCT so no autos don't win races.

I had a roommate in college who only bought manuals (trucks). He said that they "gave him more control."

The real reason was that he was a jew and the manual option was about $900 cheaper.

Besides, if you're driving fast as conditions allow then anyone going faster is an unsafe douchebag. There is a Ford Focus guy in my area with the MS3 motor. I'm not 100% sure but I think he bolted it to the stock automatic tranny that the focus had.

The ms3 and ms6 acu doesnt contain the shift logic needed to run a auto.

I have actually seriously looked at doing this and it isnt really possible without throwing a fortune into it.
