| Not Ranked : 0 score JJ, here's a bunch of car's in your area under $500 classifieds - craigslist Buy one, use it till DCR is done with the mazda and then sell it. You've put so much into this build, you can't let something like this end it all and now isn't the time to cut corners. I know it's more money, and that sucks, but honestly, with how much you've put into it, it's pennies on the dollar.

| Not Ranked : 0 score i dont think its fair that you are accusing dcr of being liable for this one. i dont think its even in the ballpark. i specifically diagnosed this for you over the phone phil. it took me 15 seconds to figure out what you did once you told me the fuel pump broke in half. thats the difference between somebody whose done these motor swaps and somebody who hasnt. chad and i have done them for darrell and theres no way in hell we would have expected him to "give us directions" on what is there and what isnt. WERE THE INSTALLERS!!!!! were responsible!! thats especially true for parts that can "fall off or out" of the motor. thats boltons. after our conversation you reinstalled a new fuel pump and CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE CAR with broken metal in the head!!!! you stated it was running and driving good, but you knew full well that there was chunks of loose metal in there when you did this..... metal you would remove later. i dont care if you drove 1 mile or 100 at that point.... you knew that that motor was at risk until you got that shit out of there. the car should never have been cranked until youd completely fixed your initial mistake. if you had installed the clutch and transmission without the flywheel would that have been on dcr too? what about if youd forgotten the gaskets and studs on the manifolds? i think its crap that dcr is even being considered for being at fault here. |

phil recived a perfect motor from dcr. they cant be held responsible for what happens after that unless it involves something internal.

| Not Ranked : 0 score phil didnt go pointing fingers..... he just stated the facts. he is unsure as to how to proceed so he made a thread...... i am in agreement that its the installers responsibility to check the peripherals but..... no need to shit on a member that has had some bad luck /inexperience twice!!!! guys , i really think this merits some help. JJ is a good guy..has been pushing his ms6 to make power...blew up once and now v2 fail for him..... lets figure out how we can help him rather than reiterating opinions about whos to blame.. dcr said they would cover the teardown and buildup so that is a plus..... now we need to see how we can help phil through either contacts or maybe a lil donation to get him going he is in UTAH....needs help to a decent shop..assisatance in pulling the motor etc etc... from cali all i can do is donate $50 for you phil and just give me your paypal acct # .... donation thread might come in between the regular donations so it might be prudent to just put your paypal acct out there and who ever wants to help can and who doesnt , doesnt. you got my $50 phil..... local utah guys help out.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Randy, Remember the order in which things happened. I was driving the car, suddenly the pump started making strange sounds. pop the hood, hear not-good sounds coming from the pump. I check my dashhawk, its not making pressure. I then proceed to limp it home and pull the pump and discover a piece of it is broken. At this point i call you and show you pictures and you diagnosed it as missing a cam follower which caused the issue. John overnights me another pump. i take off the housing , see its scuffed to hell and bits of metal are in it. I had 3 people up to this point tell me they dont see how metal could have gotten under the valve cover. You, John @ PTP, and shon / socks. So i take my housing from my other engine and clean everything i could up on the outside of the engine / lobes and reassemble it with the cam follower. I start up the engine, its making fuel pressure now, and it idles and revs fine. I drive it a few blocks and the car starts acting really funny.. Thats when i called you and had it towed to the shop. It could easily be argued that the damage was done as soon as the piece of the pump broke off and i limped it home in order to pull it apart to diagnose it. Also you *encouraged* me to make a post like this in order to get public opinion / advice . Im not trying to screw anyone or deceive or create unneeded drama. obviously on a forum some drama is unadvoidable. -Phil |

| Not Ranked : 0 score i encouraged you to make this thread because you demanded a warranty from me or dcr. i understand you were pissed and looking for blame, but now that youve made the thread im all for the discussion. i felt 100% that there was no way dcr was responsible. im stating that publically. obviously i dont think im to blame....lol personally you know my position with my motor. it ticks me off that your motor is coming back and is gonna get more comp work for this when mine has been sitting so long. dcr comped much of the work on yours and quite frankly, id almost rather buy your motor back from you for what you have in it, then see more comp work done while mine sits. this whole thing sucks. and thats from one car owner to another. |

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I agree it sucks.. And yes at that point in time i was *very* hot headed and generally being unreasonable and i agree with you 100% it is natural / human nature to want to place blame. I dont want to argue with you Randy, its not worth it. Darrell Cox out of the kindness of his heart *called me* and offered to help me out, and thats that. That is between him and me. Besides, You have told me *many* times on the phone that you no longer care about your Mazda any more. This isnt worth arguing over anymore. You have stated your opinion on the matter so lets move on. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score it doesnt randy..... its good customer service from dcr. i agree i think phil has most of the blame ..... but as a front runner that got one of the first dcr motors u are due some additional props if u will for being ahead....and sadly to say..through phils mistake alot of us will learn...that to me does merit some help. dcr is doing their part to be classy about it....and now we need to as well if u wanna help here http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...jackson-44203/

anyway... i said my piece. i just dont want this story to be remebered as dcr screwing up your motor. i know how things like this go, and that wouldnt be fair. i already had to live with installation of boltons destroying my first motor, and blame bieng cast on the engine builder. i know what really happened, and i know how it was always remebered too. its a gray area, and in this case i dont think dcr should have even been brought up into it.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Randy, I agree with you! lets hug! With that said, DCR has 100% taken the high road in this situation and i commend them for that. The thread was made because i was uncertain myself of where to place blame and i still am, though i am leaning more towards myself. Like you said its a grey area. Obviously if im asking the forum for advice and their opinion of what i should do it was unadvoidable to mention DCR. Last edited by JumpingJackson; 12-10-2009 at 11:13 AM. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score DCR is doing what they feel they need to do because this is one of their first builds and the last thing they want it bad rep from it, it is not in any way their fault, but by doing this their showing amazing customer service and that alone is going to sell parts |

Let's remember here folks that this is a HOBBY. Not a necessity, no one is going hungry because of this (at least I hope not), and no kittens are killed. When going into this type of hobby you have to expect and assume that things go wrong and that things cost money that is never recoverable. If you need a car to get to work in, a hooptie that costs less than an intercooler will do fine. Look at the bright side, things could be much worse and they are for other people. I used to have the philosophy of "I will do this to my DD" and quickly learned that you should NOT use a DD for a hobby because you don't want the rest of your life to suffer. Think of it as gambling money and don't bet your ability to get to work on it. Once that happens, the hobby is no longer fun and the whole point is lost. It's a very hard and sometimes bitter lesson to learn but I think people should be very aware of this lesson when they get into it or they lose their shirt for no reason. Good luck, look at the bright side, and I am sure things will get sorted out.
