banging noise when shifting So i havent owned this car long and it only has 13k miles, when when driving the car hard accelerating in 1st to redline when i shift hard into second, there is a pretty loud banging noise. This is the only time the noise is made on a hard 1 -2 shift, I cant seem to find anybody else with this problem before in all the forums. Any ideas? Anyone have this problem? |
do u have a stock rear motor mount? |
i forgot its a speed 6, everything stock including rear motor mount. I just havent heard of it causing this noise. Noise sounds like driver side area right in front of me. |
i think its ur engine rocking back and forth |
it might be your motor hitting the firewall. check your rmm and make sure it's not toast. also, buy a quality one asap regardless of it's condition. |
is there signs of it hitting the firewall? like can you see this in a certain spot? i took a look everything when i bought the car and nothing jumped out at me. But it very well could be hitting the firewall, it would expect that would be the loud bang im hearing. I will be buyin a rmm , im undecided on which one to buy, i dont care about vibrations, i can deal with that but i would like the motor to be rock solid and not flex a whole lot. Maybe the CP-E wishbone is the stiffest? Any input from you guys would be appreciated thanks |
I have the CP-E rear with 75 duro and it was good even with near 400tq. get it |
I too have a MS6 and it is doing the same thing, especially first thing in the morning (still cold here and the rubber is stiff I guess ... that's what she said) Anyway, it is my RMM ... so I called SU to get the RMM and shifter bushings and it looks like the SU RMM is out of stock won't be available for a few more weeks. Just take it easy on the aggressive driving/shifting until you get a new RMM, should be ok till then. Mine is pretty wasted and the engine isn't shifting around in the bay all that bad, so unless you are thrashing the gears while at WOT, should be ok. I should have listened to all the smart folks on this forum that say "get the RMM first thing" they are right. |
that they may be, but i just got a tune and love testing the WOT POWER. so i guess cpe it may be? whats the diff with the SU one? |
Funny enough this happened to me last summer. I tore ass at a green light, did a hard pull in 1st, shifted into second and BLAM!!!!!!!! The loudest fucking mechanical bang I have ever heard, I swore my car exploded... Oh...and I had the TRZ ream MM at the time... I immediately clutched, slowed down and listened for any other noises...nothing. When I got where I was going I visually checked the car...nothing... When I changed the oil looked under it, checked the engine mount... ...nothing...everything fine... To this day I don't know what in the hell it was... |
well mine has done it more than one time, it got about 3 times worse after my tune, too much power for w.e is causing the noise. i think i may buy a SU or CPE mount and go from there. |
I've gone through two stock rear engine mounts and have had the SU and CP-E upgraded mounts. You probably won’t be able to tell if yours is broken or not just by taking a peak at it because it’s normally the bushings that give way. Over time the rubber bushings begin to crack due to environmental factors combined with the stress of supporting a tremendous amount of torque being transferred thru. Currently I have the CP-E RMM and couldn’t be happier with it. I had the SU RMM as well which was good until the bushings started to crack like the stock one. I’m sure SU would have been more than happy to send me new ones but I opted for the CP-E instead. But yeah a well made after market rear engine motor mount is very likely the single most advantageous part for this car. |
I wonder if it was my trans mount making the noise then...like I said, I had the brick shithouse TRZ ream MM in place and it is still in good shape...I know it wasn't that. It's only done it once and I do not plane on doing that again...be honest, I was with some friends who have no love for the Mazda anyway so it just added fuel to the fire. |
If you want to complelty eliminate it get the SU complete set with all 3 mounts |
i dont want to go doing that quite yet, im still not sure on the source of noise. ill replace the rear since i know it deff would need replaced either way. but the other two mounts are questionable and a bit more pricey |
If you haven't already, get under your MS6 and check for full tightening of your mounts. After a hard mountain run, my stock rear mount had loosened up and I was getting audible clunks fairly often. When the bolt was tested, it was very loose and required several turns to full tightness. Clunk no more. Where is the banging coming from, specifically? Front / Rear? Front left / right? Etc. |
i checked everything on the car, all mounts and suspension components are tight. there appears to be no wear on any of them. the noise comes right under my feet in the front left. i have ordered the cp-e rear mount anyway to put on. i havent had it do the noise the past couple of times |
well i got my cp-e mount today, it looks pretty amazing. anyone have issues with dealers trying to void warranties for a mount? |
well i installed the mount and i gotta say i liked the car before but i think i may love it now, drives so much better, a |
update: after putting some more miles on it, drives great, there is vibrations at idle but u gotta sacrafice for some things lol. have not been able to get the banging noise to occur. but now when its wet i can break the tires loose shifting into 2nd |

I'm still running on the stock mounts, but I'm about ready to upgrade myself. You break traction going into 2nd? What tires do you have? |
it wasnt 100 percent dry out but it didnt break then loose before, theyre still stock bridgestones pretty far worn but still grip good. i really only notice the vibs bad one warmer days, if i can raise the idle a tad thered be none |
I'm in the same boat here, but I have the CP-E motor mount. At first I thought it might be the ETS TMIC hitting the firewall or the hood, but there is no evidence of that. I swapped back to the stock TMIC and the noise is still there. I'm slowly trying to eliminate all possibilities. I have the MS3 SRI on the Speed 6, so I thought that might be the issue, but it doesn't seem anywhere near enough to make the sound. All I have sitting around is the stock rear motor mount which has 12k on it, currently at 51k, so I might try to swap to that and see how it works in the mean time. |
well my stock mount had 12 and thats the only time ive got it to do it. i have the cp-e rear now, havent been able to get the bang noise anymore. so im guessing it must have been the mount as far as an update , after putting some miles on it, performance wise its fantastic, but you have to be willing to sacrafice a smooth idle. its deff a increase in vibs but it outweighs the cons with the pros |
