Default Best Exhaust

I am thinking of buying a turboback exhaust setup next week and I wanted to know what everyone thought.

I found a bunch of threads talking about all sorts of mods including exhausts and some threads about specific exhausts... if I just didnt look hard enough, excuse me.

I am looking to get the CorkSport turboback exhaust for my '07 speed3

for 800 new it seems to be a pretty good deal for a great name and I have found some links to the sound from their setups and it's pretty great. Also, their catless dp supposedly doesnt trigger any CEL... and neither the rp..? It almost seems impossible haha


I really want to know what you have and whether you would recommend it... and why

Im targeting fully bolted by the end of the summer, exhaust next... then the TIP and FMIC!

no thoughts on whether a CEL would be triggered?

I will also be installing an OCC and changing my oild to 40 weight to try and protect from too much smoking

Corksport DP + RP here, into stock CBE, sounds brilliant, no CELs, ever, in over a year of driving in all conditions, from track to city crawl.

I appreciate the confirmation. What have you done to help with the smoking? Im getting an OCC from Matt Damon and I should be doing the heavier oil as well. I suppose it will help but supposedly it wont really completely sovle the problem

why is no CEL with a TP/RP impossible?

the only thing that throws a CEL with those parts is the 02 sensor, and that would be fixed by proper length of the 02 bung so the sensor doesn't read falsely (which is why CS' racepipe and testpipe dont throw CEL's)

ive seen the cc pill fix smokey conditions 100%, without needing heavier oil.

when I said heavier oil I meant 5w40.

a bud said the pill is basically useless. I think it's all how severe your case is, and preventing the problem to begin with is good too

I don't think there's really a way to prevent it from smoking.. If you start smoking apparently chances are you were smoking some before and your cats were doing it's job and hiding the smoke.

There's always a chance Mazda will replace your turbo seals or even your turbo if you take it to them when you're smoking. The turbo is part of the powertrain so if you're under 60k miles they'll still cover it I guess (but they may put up a HUGE fight about it).

cp-e catted DP with HKS hi-power CBE. sounds awesome. loud when you want it, quiet when you are cruising.

I get a CEL. catalyst efficiency below threshold i believe. a.k.a it's flowing better than stock. no worries.

I do love that sound. Beautiful, it looks like that is yours?

I do hate the CEL, and I do like the CS sound as well. I dont mind a little more noise, and it really isnt that loud idling

yea that's my car and exhaust setup.

i heard the corksport CBE in person and wasn't a fan. but that's just my opinion.

most CBE's will sound pretty badass with a DP

I'll have an HKS cat-back by the end of the month, I love the sound of that 'un.. I'm sure it'll sound great mated up with the CPE DP..

yeah I know someone who is rebuilding going for 500whp and is getting rid of most everything and basically starting over... only thing he's keeping is his CS catback haha

sweet! i was semi-underwhelmed with the sound change from the HKS when it was attached to my stock DP and mid-pipe. but dont worry. it'll open up once you get your downpipe. more of a reason to get more mods

I have the CS downpipe and SU TS with the Mazdaspeed Accessory catback exhaust and I love it. perfect,not to loud or too quiet! Also no cel's. I started to smoke real bad,so I made a visit to my local Mazda dealer here. They knew about the problem. Checked it out and proceeded to do a Tsb on it. It was about changing my oil from 5w30 to 5w40 synthetic. Then sent me home. about 20k mi later no smoking problems yet. And I'm catless now. I dont know if mine was caught early before the seals took a shit idk . But its working. So who knows

the problem with something like the pcv pill is that you don't KNOW if it works. it seems to help some more than others. the theory is that it will cause increased smoking while blowing out all the crap that has built up. so you could say "it didn't finish blowing out the smoke." or say you aren't smoking now, install it, and don't smoke. did it work? or were you just never going to smoke?

all i know is that mazda made that piece smaller in the new cars. so, perhaps ptp was on to something?

I'm running the ATP 1 piece dp which replaces both the dp and rp. It's hooked up to my stock cbe and is far too quiet for my tastes. I'll be ordering the HKS cbe soon. I've heard the CS rp+cbe in another ms3 and it sounded decent, very subie like though.

by the sounds of it, the most common fix is changing the oil weight.

I appreciate the feedback, getting specific cases and how it was resolved is nice to compare.

ya know... I didnt think much of the ptp fix but it isnt expensive... it sounds like you just pop off the hose going into the valve cover and jam the thing in. That sounds like an easier install than the dashhawk!

but if we do actually need those fog lights... AUTOEXE MAZDASPEED 3 Front Bumper and Grille

I wish CS had incorporated the fogs... and I wonder how much clearane you would have if you lowered the car an inch or so AND put on the lower profile bumper... probably not much
