it's the flash that makes it look brand new...that is the head that i am selling has a bent valve..will need new valves...but shit it would be a good spare head for a PnP

Shit dude, I would have dropped the balance shaft in through one of the holes in the motor and pushed the car onto a Mazda lot for warranty work lol.

no wonder the motor blew; one of the photos shows quite clearly you had a finger in the block. Thats bound to cause some clearance issues.

Nice pics. How many miles did you put on it before it blew?

Are any of the other rods bent as well? It's usually not just 1.

SO LEX WHAT DO U SEE FROM THE PICS? I haven't gotten that far yet what u see in the pics is what i have...do you want the shortblock lex...free just pay shipping lol otherwise i might clean it up and make a coffee table out of it for my beer when i work on my car in the garage lol

not as easy as it sounds...mazda opened my hood and saw everything and closed it 10 secs later and pointed me to the door lol

Mang, that some fucked up shit there, no telling the exact cause due to etensive frag...other than pushing the little car into an endless Viagra hard-on that finally came....at least you seem to be taking it well...I'd be

Soooo...we're talkin' ~21 psi reworked turbo on a stock tune with only throttle and no fuel cut flash + fully bolted air and exhaust...hmmmm, I wonder why it blew?

It was boosting 17 psi DD...took it to the track once at 20 psi 2-3 runs in 1/8th mile...saw a lot of boost creep though

i was in shock when it happened this past july

Shipping the block will be expensive and probably not worth it.

I see a couple of things:

1. Did you have a fuel pump? Did you have it from the time you started adding parts such as a turbo back exhaust? How many miles fully bolted?

2. You mention boost spikes, full control flash, not cut flash. How were your AFs? Any WOT knock?

I will be honest, the bottom end is NOT tolerant to spikes and high boost. Any low RPM spiking over 20psi is probably asking for bad things to happen. High load (highway) spiking is the worse and a few shots of detonation added to those low RPM loads bent a rod that finally let go.

Did you have any smoking or clutch vibrations prior to it blowing? What year was the speed?

Check the other rods when you pull them out for straightness. Any pitting on the pistons due to detonation?

EDIT: You mention you were running 17psi. What was it actually spiking to when you got on the throttle? I bet that with those mods a lot more.

Look at the piston pics, dude, they're all's well that ends badly. They don't show any signs of det and the edges near the lands don't show cracks from being pushed down either.

Did you have any smoking or clutch vibrations prior to it blowing? What year was the speed?

Check the other rods when you pull them out for straightness. Any pitting on the pistons due to detonation?

1. I bought the car already built like this...it had a Mr. Lilguy fuel pump.....i literally had it for two months and boom..i drove it for 5K miles during that two month period

2. I didn't have a dashhawk at that point the funny thing is that i had one on order that week...yeah i mean full control flash and no cold cut flash from CPE...i could here knock mostly in the lower rpms...

3. it was a 07 GT with 35K...smoked alot 20 mins prior to blowing up while i was at the bank drive thru....i honestly couldn't tell you about the vibrations cuz i had trz rmm and tranny mount...lol

spike to like 20 psi in 3rd thru 5th ...sometimes when i would go in higher elevations my target boost would be 18-19 psi for some reason due to the elevation ...i didn't like how the car felt like that

If you heard knock, it was definitely a problem.

The smoke prior to it blowing meant the rod bent. Do you remember what you did just before it started smoking? Hard pulls? Anything of the sort?

Just driving to work. Yeah i had some nice races with it but other then that i drove that shit 75% of the time with my kids in the backseat and i drove responsibly then...but despite all of that shit....i can't wait to get this bitch built...i learned my lesson

It was smoking before it blew because the rod was bent and the piston was skewed in the bore and the rings no longer sealed properly.

Many people notice excessive smoking when a rod is bent.

if you flood the cylinders enough to get liquid instead gas form, your fucked cause liquids are not compressible like gasses.. which can allow damage to occur on the compression stroke.
kinda a long shot but if you were 2-stepping for a long time its a possibility.

if you flood the cylinders enough to get liquid instead gas form, your fucked cause liquids are not compressible like gasses.. which can allow damage to occur on the compression stroke.
kinda a long shot but if you were 2-stepping for a long time its a possibility.
Ahh I thought it interrupted the spark only momentarily, then lights it off again.. hence the flames out the exhaust.. and continues to repeat this process.. IE no build up of fuel.. Well there you go I learnt'ed'ed something new

I agree with you I have a local here that has one. He would blow fireballs all over the place with it during night time. Now when he does it, it sounds like the stroke or something is stuttering not like "putt putt putt putt putt putt" you know the normal noise. He got a compression test this past fall and compression in all cylinders were all down. Took the head off and his cylinder walls were discolored like blue/black/orange. My guess is it's from the gas vapor being held up in the cylinder causes it to settle and some what puddle on top of the piston and the spark not being able to light it until he steps off of the two step. Result he removed it and got a warranty claim through mazda. That mother fucker, otherwise he is completely stock except for mscai, n2mb 2 step launch controller and some wheels.

Although Im still not sold..I find it way too hard to believe that the fuel can puddle.. if there's flames, its getting ignited.. (poor ceramic cat though), end of story... well for what I can gather anyway

It's not unusual for gas to be unburned in the cylinder during normal operation...that's part of the reason we have cats. if you're stutter-boxing the ignition, you can count on alot more unburned fuel in the cylinder. 2-steps are designed for drag cars that have short engine life and they are only used for a few seconds at the start, not as a toy for some street punk to play with.

On top of this revving the motor out to redline in neutral is not healthy for it due to the forces on the rotating assembly at that RPM
