Default Bnoon restrictor bolts

Anyone that doesn't know what a bnoon restrictor bolt is, read here.

Just a note to the mods, please don't delete this thread without talking to Haltech (Kevin) first. We agreed on a similar per piece deal to let me sell intakes on this site without being a full time approved vendor and someone deleted that thread and now we can't find it and nobody notified me that it even happened.

Yup, back to $40 like they used to be as time is short right now. Also tired of running to replace bits or resharpen the old ones. The tiny little .060 and .065 bits don't last long. My record for not breaking is 17 bolts in a row, but the average before one breaks is about 4-5 bolts on the little side hole, the hole down the center breaks bits to eventually, and usually kills the bolt itself too. Gets spendy buying 5 bits at a time. I'm doing 50 bolts this batch, so I'll probably have to go buy more bits to finish it. We'll see how long these 50 lasts me.

bnoon, if you're going to do this a lot, might want to try mcmaster-carr and find a good sturdy carbide bit that is less likely to break.

Might want to stock up on .060 drill bits if you're doing it by hand. I've tried it both ways and have not been able to make one by hand without breaking the small bit.

I have a carbide bit for the center now and it's been holding up better without breaking. I've yet to find a local source for wire-sized bits in carbide though... and actually, the "normal" high speed steel ones have held up better in the .06 size than the "titainium" bits I tried last. I think the harder ones wear out less, but they're rather brittle and break VERY easily over the softer bits.

Are these still available? If so do I just send $40 to that pay-pal account with my address? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but im running out of options to stop the smoking and have decided to throw a catch can and bolt on there as a last hope.

Bnoon, not sure if you have tried anything like this but when I was in a neon sign shop, we used some kind of grease on the bits anytime we had to drill steel. Made drilling easier and helped the bits last longer. I'm talking angle iron and I-beams.

Sorry for the slow response guys, I don't see this thread often. I use a pretty standard 13 speed drill press that I modified for a longer throat and also recently stepped up to cobalt steel bits.

I use a standard spray lubricant to cool the bits now, what ever is on sale in bulk.

If you centre drill with a #1 you'll likely have less wander and you're drills will last longer. That of course is if you're not putting a centre already.

this is retarded. its just a hard as hell to install band aid for slightly leaky turbo seals. seems silly to me to restrict any oil going to the turbo. they are already oem restricted.
my seals went bad at 15k annoying ass hell ... your supposed to just get a new turbo.

wrong. Factory lines/turbo are not restricted, which is why the seals are going in the first place.

And as for this being hard to install......are you a paraplegic? or have you masturbated so much that your hands have rheumatoid arthritis and you can't grip shit anymore?
The reason I ask is, it took me all of 5 minutes to install mine, because I took a swig of beer between each step.

If you're under warranty, head to the dealer and get their fix. Buy a bolt as well just for extra measure.

I've disassembled several smoking turbos and NONE had bad seals and that holds true to what my local Mazda dealership has also seen. I had my turbo replaced twice under warranty at 1,000 miles when I installed my DP and neither of those two were bad either.

If it seems silly to you to restrict the oil pressure going into a turbo, then you've not had very much experience with turbo systems. All turbos have oil restrictors and can have drain pressure issues. It's nothing new. They are OEM restricted, but they aren't restricted enough. What seems silly to me is that Mazda overpressures the turbo from the factory and has made their own hard as hell to install band aids that don't work for many. Replace the oil, replace the turbo, replace the turbo version 2.0, and now they're replacing the valve cover and inlet pieces.

I've got some more bolts but I need to machine them still. Check ebay in a week or so and they should be up for sale then.

As you will find in searching MSF, they are too small and need to be drilled bigger.

I have a very silly question. I've been looking to machine one of these bolts myself but it seems they are not sold in any hardware store I know of. They can get 'close' but M12 X1.5MM seems to be a very specific size. Where can I find this bolt?

Or if there is someone else on here who machines the bnoon bolt to spec, I'd love to speak with them too. It's getting frustrating trying to fix the smoking issue.
