The OP had a huge knock spike, that preceeded his issues. That knock makes it more likely that he broke a ring land, or piston...I wouldn't assume that he jumped timing.

I havent really been paying attention to this thread, but I did look it over.

Ide personally call a timing problem, it is definitely not a ring or ring land or crack piston from the description given. You guys also failed to mention that the timing gears are not keyed and the chain does not have to jump, it only has to work the bolt loose and spin the gear a bit.

My DH is set to go off at 6 KR and it has never once gone off, 6 KR is not normal.

The cool thing is that a bent valve is ALOT cheaper to fix than a bent rod. The bad part is that every exhaust or intake valve will have to be replaced along with the guides on cyl 3, thats about $200 in parts +$100 labor. Add in $350 for the tools to reset the timing, $160 for a gasket set, $400 in alcohol and profanity, and it comes out to $200 cheaper than a really really cheap long block.

EDIT: on second thought, there should be no knock on an engine with a bent valve, when you bend a valve there is no noise at all... I would know =P Now the broken rocker that broke at the same time made noise, the valve made none when it hit the piston.

well we wont fully know till he has the car checked that kr spike don't mean to much to me in his log it was a single gear log that had a blip. not like it leveled off and held that way the whole time which means to me like Lex said that the blip was not the cause of the failure but a result of the failure.

Keep in mind you drive a Speed 6. The 6 Deg of KR has been a very well documented and known issue on the MS3. Different cars = different results even with the same engine. The fact that the Speed 6 does not see KR as often has been one of the reasons why people feel the KR is noise related and not actual KR on the MS3.

Maybe my comment of normal is the problem. How about we change it to 6 Deg of KR is common on the MS3 vice normal.

On a side note: I lived in Corpus Christi for 6 years when I was in the Coast Guard. Love the place, miss the fishing, miss Waterburger and have very fond memories of Spring Break parties on the beach The only thing I wished Corpus had was trees over 6ft

Oh and I forgot: The women. Corpus has some of the most beautiful women in any city I have ever seen. I swear there is something in the water there. OMG I miss that place even more now

Thanks for the information 06speed6.

I have seen 6 deg of knock many many times under normal driving conditions. Of course if you change the way you drive you can almost elimiate all the knock in daily driving situations. Of course as soon as you approach 3k and over there it is. What are the differences in the speed6 motor to the speed3?
