been discussed over and over.... get rid of your cats and 90% of MS3s will smoke. it's the turbo seals. Do a search and you should find tons of info.

I'm not very eloquent with words. Nor am I a fancy type of a person. What I am trying to say is......

niggah , you're fucked like the rest of us.

With no cats you likely get lots of black smoke as well.

I know that running 10W 30 and/or getting a turbo inlet has helped some people "band-aid" the smoking issue. You'll probably just get used to washing the smoke residue on your back bumper regularly :/.

Johnson....i have a TBE with high flow Random Tech cat and never smoked...How many miles on the car when it started after the TBE install? Initially after install it will smell for a bit....but IMO you should have a cat on it...for the smell factor of exhaust(bad enough with cat)environment and for passin inspection if needed. ( i do). Also CP-E guarantees no CEL with there's...and so far i have been ok. The TBE and the CAI are the best mods you can do for this car. I honestly do not think its your seals that quick...check to make sure the TBE is on right with no leaks especially the downpipe. Also some of the suggestions mentioned prior have helped. Catch can, different oil, inlet...you can clear this issue up dude...this is minor in the scheme of things with this car.....TBE and CAI/SRI and call it a day....on power mods for now IMO...plenty of other non power mods out there to enhance this car(example Advans)..its plent fast already for the street...

It was a hard thing to accept, I agree. Mine started smoking a tiny bit occasionally when I installed my TP. I know that if I go catless later on, its going to smoke like San Diego did a few years back. I was pissed, but I knew it might smoke from complaints on the forums. Not everyone is dealt the pocket aces turbo that doesn't smoke once uncorked.

If I were in your position and it bothers you that much, I would put it back to stock and take it back to the dealer saying that you noticed smoke coming out of the exhaust after long idle periods. They probably won't be able to "replicate" the issue with the stock cats on...but they know this is a MAJOR problem with this car so they may help you out. But Nator said it the best, "you're fucked like the rest of us" on this issue, especially if your dealer doesn't give a fuck.

Edit: I agree with Lidokrantz...do these things first before bringing it in to the dealership.

Edit: I agree with Lidokrantz...do these things first before bringing it in to the dealership.
well my uncles is a pretty high up guy at the dealership so i might be ok there..

Holy shit man, that sounds pretty bad! Oil dripping out of the exhaust! I would have never suspected such a thing could happen.

Unless others disagree with me (I've never had a catless setup or experience with turbo malfunctions of this degree), your turbo sounds like its fried....like Kentucky Fried Chicken fried. If you're uncle works for the dealership, I would explain to him what you've found and get a replacement. Maybe you were given a lemon turbo from the get go, sure sounds like it since you're only at 1k. I'm sure he would understand if he's family and won't try to stiff you with the whole "the DP you put on caused the damage to the turbo" bullshit. I would say I just put it on and haven't even driven around with it installed. It started smoking, and leaking oil lol, when you uncorked it.

You're confused. Oil burns blue. If you had oil coming out your tailpipe, you would smoke so much blue you'd put the Smurfs to shame.

The liquid you see is likely condensation. The white smoke is also likely water vapor. The only bad white smoke is coolant.

So chill out and think this through a little more before losing thousands on selling a car with 1k miles.

Yeah I'd bring it stock as well, I'd only mention your find (to your uncle only) if they can't "replicate" the issue once you have your cats back on. You know your turbo is not functioning to a satisfactory level. A little smoke I can forgive...but if it is leaking visible oil out of the exhaust...I would want mine replaced.

Have you noticed your oil level dropping on the stick? I'd imagine you're eating quite a bit, but cant tell yet because you don't have enough miles on your ride. Thats another bit you could add to your complaint. "You are consuming excessive oil!" This would be the case whether or not your cats were back on to "mask" the turbo seals leaking like a civ.

+1

If it was water dripping out of the exhaust, you have nothing to worry about. A lot of condensation builds up and takes a while to burn off, making a bunch white smoke and a water drip from the exhaust tip.

But if it is oil, I'd be taking it in.

Mazda must be using some shit seals in these things since so many turbos are smoking! Sealing a hot shaft that's rotating at 10,000 rpm (or what ever, it's fast) is a challange but it's been done for years. I had the same problem with a Paxton supercharger. Leaked like a SOB after a few thousand miles. They rebuilt the thing 3 times before they admitted they switched seal vendors to save a few bucks. Worked fine after they went back to the good supplier. China anyone?

Then new turbo for you my friend if it was mobil 1 and not water on your finger. You were delt a 7 deuce off-suit when it came to your turbo. It was a lemon! Replace it and call it a day...and proceed to have fun with your car.

Don't give up on our car so easily though. This thing is the bees knees when it comes to a light 280-325 whp, reliable DD that can pack you, your 3 buddies, a cooler stocked with beer, tackle, and 8 fishing poles comfortably for a rockin road trip. I love my car because it is fast, involved to drive, a sleeper from hell on the freeway and on the street, is fuel efficient when I want it to be, and handles in the twisties...all while getting the job done as a vehicle to have fun/comfort in when bringing 3+ people along on a road trip to where ever you may want to go.

I took 4 adults along for a fishing trip 300 miles away....fully loaded and 2 of them weighed 280+. Try doing that in a miata or a RX-8. And since you have a good connection with Mazda...I don't see a much better car than the MS3 when it comes to overall vehicle utility and enjoyment on the whole (if you need speed, handling and utility for how you use your vehicle).

I'm guessing I'm in that 10% as well. Corksport DP and RP here. No smoke after 30k miles. I can let it idle for 30min +.

90% of the time a turbo smokes is not because the seals are bad. the open exhaust causes the oil to not drain properly and it forces itself out of seals. You need to do proper research before claiming that this car sucks. the turbo and the oil system was not designed for running with zero backpressure.

Please read this thread before you make any decisions on what to do with your car. http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...ark-mazda.html

Weld a high-flow cat, install an oil catch can and be done with it!

In the post where you were calling me gay etc. I clearly stated that removing cats will cause the car to smoke and that a catback won't help too much, however .... i guess there is no point going over everything. You need to find out for yourself

This is an issue with the design of the car and you have to live with it or get rid of it. Good luck.

your a moron dude .. no car in the world has an excuse to burn oil .. being forced or not through seals.. where are you from where thats ok .. people put exhausts on all different cars all the time .. obviously theres an issue if oil is being forced through seals .. then theres a flaw with seals.. i dont give a shit what you were mindfucked to believe a car burning oil because of a exhaust being put on is a joke..
