Broken aftermarket tranny mount

So today after going through the toll booth I floored it in 2nd gear and the bolt that went through the tranny mount to the engine went through the metal washer like piece of the tranny mount. Car thumped and banged so I got off at the next exit and pulled into the parking lot. Could feel that the bolt wasn't all the way connected to the tranny, but decided to try and drive the car home. Well after about 2 miles something else broke and the tranny mount got disconnected from the tranny and the car wouldn't go any further. Pulled off onto this nice dirt road in the shade and got to the tranny mount and sure enough the bolt that goes through the tranny mount was still connected to the tranny but it had went through the middle of the tranny mount. Oil/grease was all over the left front suspension area. Put the stock mount back on, started it, but the there's something not working right with the tranny and the car wouldn't go anywhere. The shifter linkage looks right from what I can tell...when someone else shifts gears the linkage shifts like before. Got the car towed to the dealer and put on the slip that the car won't go into gear....nothing more....nothing about the tranny mount. What should I say when the dealer calls tomorrow? The car is fully modded.

tell them youre dumb and you tried to drive your car when it was obviously fucked lol jk. sorry about the mess you got into. how obvious is it that you just threw the stock mount back on? you might be able to get away with it, but stick with one story and deny till you die

I Love Brownies 07-26-2011 07:30 PM

what mount was it?

the biggest mistake you made was trying to drive it home after the mount had already broke

What he said. Keep the thread updated.

Rich-PMS 07-26-2011 07:35 PM

What brand mount was it?

MoparGo 07-26-2011 07:36 PM

Very...

..sorry this happened to you...

Seen posts before about the stock mount taking a dump and resulting in the same stuation.

Hope your transmission is not kaput. It sounds like at least one half-shaft is DOA though.

One bright spot... All will be sorted in the fullness of time (after spending the recquisite cash).

PS... For now (unfortunately) your fuelly sig should read... 0.0mpg.

I Love Brownies 07-26-2011 07:36 PM

in b4 minvera mount

iracer7 07-26-2011 07:40 PM

TRZ....I don't think it's very obvious. There's just a ton of oil and grease that came from somewhere on the left front suspension area....but all of that was there went I pulled off the road into the parking lot the 1st time. The bolt was tightened down as tight as possible...I don't see how I could have screwed up the installation if the bolt goes straight through the mount?? I know TRZ has a great reputation so I wouldn't think they would have problems. I called another member on here when I got to the parking lot and neither of us are experts and I tried following him. The engine was thumping a ton then 2 miles in the bolt went all the way through the mount.

I Love Brownies 07-26-2011 08:21 PM

hm take pictures of the failed mount

Hectik1 07-26-2011 08:23 PM

Sounds like the bolt ended up working itself loose.

Needs more red locktite!

karl-hungus 07-26-2011 08:34 PM

was the washer above or below the bolt?

I Love Brownies 07-26-2011 08:37 PM

my trz mount is a tank. no complaints here

turd burglar 07-27-2011 12:21 AM

you must abuse that car, my trz put up with hell, and now its on someone's car who rails their thing way harder than i'd ever drive my car

mtnrunner 07-27-2011 12:30 AM

yeah, Turd's mount is on my car now and i beat my car like a red headed step child.

Raider 07-27-2011 06:06 AM

How many lbs did you torque the bolt down to? Did you reuse the original bolt? Did you use Loctite?

Post pics of the broken mount, as well as the bracket on the trans.

This is a very important question...Did you install the included washer on the top of the mount or below the mount in between the mount and the transmission? If the washer was installed below the mount and in between mount and the transmission it can, and will pull the bolt, bushing, and sleeve through the mount. If not pics will be necessary for us to help diagnose what happened.

If you have just grease all over I would say you have a broken axle and or boot. If there is oil too I'd say you have a broken axle and a cracked transmission. Unless your dealer is really cool I think it's going to be an unpleasant experience.

Sorry to hear this has happened, but we'll try and help as much as we can.

this is making me scared =/ because as of late i have had alot of creaking and thumping noises coming from my right front area, sometimes i hear it in the wheel well area when i turn and at times i hear and feel a clunk or thump under my feet (pedal area). I only have the JBR RMM, installed last month, havent had a chance to put it on the lift here on Post to check if its loose or needs tightening, but today im gonna see if it needs to be re-tightened, i also bought the trz TMM off a forum member so gonna see how my tranny mount is...

iracer7 07-27-2011 09:40 AM

I'm not at home so I can't post any pics of it. The bolt was torqued down really tight...the bolt was still attached to the engine. All the washers were on top of the mount. Dealer still hasn't called. They've gotta have some questions about it...the stock mount looks fine in there now.

Wait, Transmission or motor mount? you posted the bolt is attached to the engine. The trans mount connects to the transmission via a bracket that bolts to the transmission.

You did not use a torque wrench? Well that can have problems. Too tight, weaken bolt. no Loctite is retarded too.

Looks are everything, but ultimately...

:worthless:

I Love Brownies 07-27-2011 09:55 AM

op just to make things clear you are talking about the mount under the battery tray right?

right front clunk sounds like your pmm may have gone poopy. i've only heard of one trz tmm fail (search 247) and it was installer fail as the cat put the washer below the mount. loctite and torque wrench ftw.

shit my apologies reread it and i did put right, well it is right side when you're looking at the car lol as i just was trying to figure it out, but obviously when im driving the car its the left side. So to correct my self when im driving it the noises and clunks/creaking come from the left side under the pedal area.

My bad.

pzr2874 07-27-2011 10:22 AM

Sub'd

JBR 07-27-2011 10:34 AM

:hmmmm2: I'm confused.

iracer7 07-27-2011 11:12 AM

Transmission mount...when I said motor I meant tranny.

Rich-PMS 07-27-2011 11:19 AM

so it's a trans mount

NOT a motor mount

wankular 07-27-2011 12:17 PM

I'm interested to see pics too. Isn't the TRZ just one big piece of steel?

Yes. And this would be the first one I've heard of failing as well.

iracer7 07-27-2011 01:40 PM

Dealer just called and said the clutch and flywheel are gone and it will cost $2500 to fix and those are both not under warranty. By doing just a quick search I see flywheels for $350 and clutch for $720.

Raider 07-27-2011 01:45 PM

Did they pull the transmission?

If the trans mount broke, it probably popped axles. $ on clutch being fine, that hoses/cables got fucked when you drive it after motor fell out.

skeeter149 07-27-2011 01:47 PM

and you need to decide if you want dual mass flywheel like stock or single mass. most after market if not all go for a lightened single mass. good luck and that sucks.

iracer7 07-27-2011 01:49 PM

I don't know.....I think I'm going to try and get it towed elsewhere and get it work on. $1050 for clutch+flywheel online....they want $2500.

iracer7 07-27-2011 01:55 PM

I know nothing about clutch and flywheels.MAZDASPEED ACT Clutch Is this alright?

they are. and the washer has a larger diameter than the hole for the bolt. so, there is no way this should be physically possible to happen.

that's why pics are so valuable here.

Raider 07-27-2011 01:59 PM

ACT has a lot of problems with our cars. If you were able to move until the axle popped off, then clutch is probably fine. Dont buy anything, yet. Get it home, up on jackstands and post some pics of the carnage.

I Love Brownies 07-27-2011 02:00 PM

something seems off about the story

Raider 07-27-2011 02:05 PM

I agree.

I Love Brownies 07-27-2011 02:07 PM

i just dont see anyway how that fail would happen. sounds like he installed it wrong and now is back tracking. the first thing i would have done is take pictures of said fail.
