Built motor startup fail, HELP!!!

1 Attachment(s)
Got my built motor installed last weekend and upon trying to start it up at almost midnight on Sunday, this epic fail happens. We called it a night after this due to lack of sleep and having to work at 6 am. Didn't think to try and get any codes from the AP going to look at that tomorrow and start troubleshooting.

We verified timing 3 times before fully assembling the block, there was just a hair of play in the chain. After the attempted start up the shit is way tight from what I can feel through the oil cap, could it be a tight spot in the chain due to valve springs? I am also thinking crank position sensor possibly? Any ideas?

did you try turning the motor over by hand?

That's on the list of things tomorrow after checking the ap for codes. I know the battery needs a charge...fucking just got the thing 3 months ago and it was only out of the car for week. :wtf1:

Definitely turn it over by hand first. Assuming that's okay you should turn it over on the starter for a couple of minutes without the plugs in to build oil and fuel pressure.

Check all of your electrical connections.

If this is the same guy on the facebook group, which I'm about sure it is. He would have avoided this problem by cranking it by hand. I think he took off the valve cover and the clearance for the cams and buckets wasn't correct, which in turned ruined pretty much everything in the head.

Unless his clearances were ridiculously out of spec the motor still would have started up.

I found this out the hard way myself a few days ago. 200 miles on a fresh motor with very tight clearances. It ran, had good compression in 3 cylinders.

I also "learned the hard way" on a previous car. Regardless ... a few manual turns beforehand should have been commonsensical. Well ... hindsight is 20/20.

Yup it's me. we cranked it by hand 3 times before fully assembling the rest of the motor/car. Everything felt/seemed ok. That was the "verified timing 3 times" part of the OP. There was a mis-communication and machine shop didn't check clearances or do the line bore/hone on the cam journals and buckets. The end cap and journal on the intake side where the hpfp housing mounts to had some bad scoring.
