CAI Fail

Haven't looked down the filter area since late May at a NATOR IL meet where I took the bumper off for a fail FMIC install. Anyways, got the missing coupler and clamps to try it again today.

Found my filter off the pipe, chilling in the bumper...

Car drove fine the whole time and went through the Midwest rain storms of July... even lowered and under tray removed.

Any cause for concern?

that sucks but i find it amusing haha

depending how long it was off for and what you sucked up you could of bent some of the blades in the turbo

Sounds more like your fail

Let's see a little dust ingestion I think that is the fix for a smoking turbo, how many miles did you put on it?

You didn't pop your hood for a month?

JLee1469 08-15-2011 10:35 PM

Yeah I know my fail. I thought the clamp was shitty but I probably didn't tighten it as much as I should've. Not sure when it popped off but I think I put around 300 miles since the start of June. If the turbo got a little beat up, I guess I'm not too worried as its an excuse to go big.

Funny you say about the smoke, I had serious smoking until I put in Rotella. Perhaps this helped a bit as well :).

EDIT

I pop my hood every week, I just don't look down that crevice where the filter is. I've been meaning to switch to WAI but the CAI is money already spent.

same thing happened with me when I had the MS6. I even tightened that SOB down to the point where it wouldnt turn anymore and it still came off.....when I got the MS3 I told myself "no MSCAI" and went with the Cobb SRI......problem solved.

If you don't hear or feel any issues, you're fine. You would know if you had bent fins or an exploding engine from superior amounts of paranoia...and Silica never hurt anyone...oh wait... :D

Should be fine. Any turbo damage would be readily apparent. Definitely not the best for the motor, but if she's running fine then R&R the filter and check it periodically.
