CAI + TestPipe on stock tune

As the title indicates, this is what I'm running and I wondering if this is safe. I don't have a Dashhawk to watch Afr's, knock, LTFT's, STFT's...etc. Anything else I should be concerned about? It's my belief that these mods are very minor and the ECU can re-calibrate for the slightly increased airflow.

you will blow

no seriously its fine. there is a lot about what you can run before a tune out here already. search button ftw

Nazarite 05-19-2010 11:24 AM

mazdaspeeding, I have these plus TIP and a Dashhawk that I've been watching for the past 15000 miles, my car is fine and running strong at almost 38k miles total now.

TRex 05-19-2010 11:27 AM

i currently have a sri and TP....been noticing some AFRs in the low 11's but FP is fine so im not worried

you did pull battery cable after these installs right? to let the car learn LTFTs

mazdaspeeding 05-19-2010 02:51 PM

sure did. Plus I went really easy on it for a couple days (100kms) to let it settle in. Lost a lot of low end torque on initial tip-in with the CAI but definitely felt a stronger pull up top and doesn't die at 5500 anymore either..kind of fades out slowly beginning around 5700/5800. Testpipe added sound and quicker spool...not much difference in the butt dyno dept.

TRex 05-19-2010 03:02 PM

^really? my butt dyno must be off because i thought the TP made a world of difference haha...these TPs seem to be hit or miss with people

filphil 05-19-2010 08:29 PM

It's because the butt dyno is unreliable. People swearing by the "butt dyno" are full of "shit".

I think with those mods and as others have said you should be fine. I would consider the RMM if you dont have one yet.

ngconquest 05-19-2010 09:29 PM

How would it change the situation if you installed a TMIC with these mods? I am in the same boat, and wondering if a TMIC would be a good next step or disastrous to how well my car is currently running.

filphil 05-19-2010 09:48 PM

To be honest, we can't say. You'll have to take your chances every single time you mod your car. Expect the worst but hope for the best. If it worries you, keep a Dash Hawk in your car and watch for knock, fuel pressure, temps, and whatever else tickles your fancy.

They work excellent together. I ran an intake/TP/TMIC combo for about 10k miles, and now I'm running an intake/TP/FMIC combo. I watch my DH all the time and I've never seen anything to be concerned with.

Right now I have 33k miles on my car and it's still running great.

mazdaspeeding 05-20-2010 07:59 AM

I agree with SRTie4K...you'll be okay but you're pretty much at the threshold of needing a tune... once you add a Dp or Tip, you'll need a tune for sure...and a DH and some gauges.

TRex 05-20-2010 09:15 AM

im getting TMIC next and the TIP last (because im still not sold on how great TIPs are haha) so i will let you know how it goes =D
