i did 2 logs today, I logged BAT, IAT, speed mph, BOOST, ECT I did a pretty long log and ambient temp was 88-89 for the logs. My iats were only 3 degree higher than ambient and my boost was about 12-15 higher than ambient, i did all the logging 0 psi or less. temps stayed consitant all through the 10-15 min drive to work. I stopped a few times and temps didnt increase much (1-2 degrees). the logs were done with ac off (ac on causes iat to increase big time)

when i get home form work Ill attach the files so u can download them and review since they are large logs.

I tried a logged run yesterday in 92-93 degree ambient temp on my favorite isolated, straight flat road. Almost no one uses this two lane blacktop, so I use it for testing.

The car had been driven for about 15 minutes in stop and go traffic and some low traffic speeds in the 50-60 mph range before I stopped for the run. AC was on the whole time. DSC was turned off before launch. Maybe I should turn AC off during the warm up period and for the run.

I effffed up the 2-3 shift (need a rear mount upgrade), so you can see me blowing that shift big time on the charts below. On rpm chart you can see it took three tries to get the damn thing in third. Et mushroomed to 13.9 because of that.

Maybe I'll lay down a couple runs today with a good shift, then switch the CAI to SRI mode and repeat.

My 60 ft was crappy too (let rpm get away from me and tires now have 18K miles), but the development of power in our engines on stock tune is held back until you get into third gear anyway.

For what it's worth, here's the data with mods listed below, 92-93 degree ambient, running the MSCAI gen two. Laugh at my bad launch and at the missed 2-3 shift that exploded my 0-60 to 6.1 seconds! Pay attention to the power from 60-100 mph - 6.1 seconds in this heat. Charts will give you an idea of what this different type of logging shows on WOT run. Peak power was in 4th gear - about 265 whp. Sharp, quick, vertical lines are electrical system artifact and should be disregarded.

Right. I can't do that other than just to report ambient temp from what I see.

I have to rely on you guys with Dash Hawk or AP to log IAT's and BAT's because all I can log is accelerometer changes over time and the data that produces.

I can only compare performance results. Rained today so no more runs. I want to make runs on the same surface with CAI mode and SRI mode at same temps and record comparsion. That's all I can do. I look forward to your temp data.

You guys are over analyzing this, really.

We're talking about a difference of a couple degrees. Not enough to make such a fuss over.

There are much more important issues with this motor than what's being discussed here.

I'm sure you can find those more important issues in other threads and leave this one to us over-analyzers to waste our time on.

But since you returned to the discussion, I'm till waiting on the name and location of that dealer who you said replaced a hydrolocked engine that had a Mazdaspeed CAI.

Wanna give that up while you are checking out our over-analysis?

Wow. Just wow. You're a tool.

Browning Mazda
Cerritos, Ca.

I doubt they will disclose this information to a random caller, but if it makes you feel better then give em a try.
The bottom line is that I know what I heard and there was no reason for them to lie or even mention that in the first place.

Your epic failure lies in your inability to recognize the logic behind all of this whether it be about the hydrolock issue or the CAI vs. SRI discussion. Once again I find myself wondering why I ever bothered with this in the first place.

Have you tried mazdas247? They would love you there.

Thanks for the requested info. I feel better already.

I appreciate that you are compelled to make assessments of my supposedly epic failures in logic. I seem to share those failures with many others less illuminated on this subject than yourself. Being so uninformed and ignorant, we'll just plod along with our silly data collection and see where it leads. Perhaps nowhere. The blind squirrel sometimes finds an acorn.

Thanks for your invitation that I may be better appreciated on some other board. Invitation notwithstanding, I'll be sticking around. I'm feelling pretty comfortable here.

i dont think its a waste of time. i have nothing better to do at work so... but i would like to see some SRI guys do some logs and post results so we can compare. regardless if its a few degrees. every little bit counts and makes a difference. What ive noticed lately from driving. my IAT temps stay about 5 degree higher than ambient (consistantly) stop and go or moving with ac off. i have logs but im so lazy. ill def post them up. sri guys please log or do something to argue your case.

how much water does it actaully take to hydro lock a motor? would you actually have to partly submerge the filter? i've run cars before with a completely soaked filter and not noticed much of a difference at slower speeds.

Entirely depends on the motor and circumstances. The closed head volume of the cylinder being the main measurement. Any water in excess of the closed head volume (whatever that is) could lead to a hydrolock. Shit, There've been engines hydrolocked on fuel, coolant water, even oil so, it is a possibility but, pretty remote in terms of it happening from rainfall.

It's really just common sense. If you submerge your filter in a puddle of water and hit the throttle, that 15 psi of boost could allow water into the engine before the MAF sensor shuts off.

It only takes a small amount of water to ruin the whole motor.

But since you guys wont take one word I say into consideration, i'm just gonna leave this thread again.

Bump: SRI guys with Dash Hawks, any data logs showing IAT's and BAT's? Inquiring minds want to know. Can you post 'em up?

Edit: We need honest ambient temp report too.
