Cat Explosion?
 

Sooooo I am running that dumb ass BOV as I didn't want to drop the dollars on it just yet. As you can imagine I'm a backfire'n fool. I know that over time running rich will kill the cat that the dealer put back in to make legal.
Heres the setup
Stop light. Tired. Wanna get home but in no fashion to speak of. Slowly pull away from the light drop clutch and as I'm catching 2nd gear, POP. Like the normal pop + 5 times the volume and I swear I hear a noise that could only be described as exactly what I think it is. Pieces from the catted DP dropping farther into the exhaust.

Car is running exactly the same right now in power, response, sound vibration... the nine yards.

Any ideas. If it was limping I'd like to be out there now starting to troubleshoot it, but it's as if this never occurred.

That's because don't know how a mass air flow system works.... But it is completely up to you how you operate your car

I understand it fine, and that it will run rich during shifts because the engine is expecting to get that air that you vent. My question is more along the lines of so what? I get a few backfires which i like and no harm to the car. So what's the big deal?

There's a lot of guys here who run full VTA that are super quick and have no problems.

it is NOT a myth that running VTA will cause you to run rich between shifts
it is NOT a myth that that it can be trouble some to dump a bunch of unburned fuel into the exhaust system (see OP)

if you want to run VTA by all means go for it....if you dont want to tune for it...hell that is fine too....it is not that we are anti VTA we are just anti doing something that has no benefit for the car and forcing it to operate out of how it should

Yea I don't like it being so loud when it lets out and the "shaking a duck" sound of the HKS version number who knows that is on here makes the car sound well.... Rice IMO.

But regardless of BOV or BPV, Rice or Not, my OP in summary was, will you noticed a chunked catalytic converter in driving and if so, which senses should I use.

Well, considering that Dustin is going to be the fastest Mazdaspeed 6 in the world when he gets his tune done, and chances are pretty good that I'm going to be the fastest recorded Mazdaspeed 3 in the world here in about a week should tell you that it's not hurting us.

If your cat is clogged you would lose a lot of power and when you finished running the car after a while the cat would be cherry red, so since you have power and a car that isn't burnt to the ground I would assume you dont have a clogged cat. Since the rest of the system is open to the mufflers that is where I would check if you are worried about it.
