I think mine has been breaking in more and more over the past few weeks. Yesterday I was engine braking sorta slowly to a stop sign, and it let out this sick crackling noise that sounded flat out wicked. Thank you mr. exhaust pipe!

| Not Ranked : 0 score Actually its deceiving. Inside the car, so quiet that it sounds even more quiet than the stock exhaust. Outside, its a different story. Since its broken in, it has that deep subaru gurgle to it, and its super deep and the turbo is plenty audible out of the rear of the car. I love it. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score so hey quick question, I have the Turboxs DP and RP and HKS CBE, I'm taking the racepipe off and putting the stock cat back on, is my car gonna get quiet again or is it still gonna be loud because of the downpipe, I like it loud...

| Not Ranked : 0 score It will probably get quieter, especially in the upper RPMs, and lose some of that throatiness the HKS CBE produces. But keeping the TXS DP on there you'll still be louder than stock... and you'll likely get back the mid-RPM loudness (some call it "drone") tuned into the factory catback. Just looking at the size and design of the mufflers on the Cobb and Racing Beat catbacks you can tell they can be quieter than the competition (stock catback included), which use straight-through mufflers and resonators as opposed to a non-straight-through muffler like this: ![]() Notice how the mufflers' in/out pipes don't line up. They enter the muffler in the middle and exit a little to the side. ![]() |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Could be.. I'm sure the muffler in that first pic doesn't flow that great relative to a straight through design. But I could be mistaken in what I'm picturing inside the Cobb and Racing Beat mufflers. There may be a diagonal pipe between the inlet and outlet, like so: ![]() I'd think this type of muffler would flow just as well as a straight-through type. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I don't think a racing beat style muffler (or dual chambered) muffler would hurt performance vs stock, but it might be less of a performer vs a straight through design. ie, it's still going to flow better then stock, just not as much as something that is designed for maximum flow at the cost of "cabin sound". Thanks alot for the racing beat reviews. I will definitely be picking one up in the future. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I am telling you it would be pointless to do in cabin videos, cause even with a catless downpipe, you can not hear any noise inside except my hks ssqv. I am probably going to have the 2nd resonator removed after I get home from college in May after I graduate. It sounds great, but I want a little more grunt. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score If you want the quietest exhaust, this means removing the second resonator and installing a bigger resonator in its place. I used a Magnaflow 14616 style and it got rid of the nasty drone the stock exhaust has. This makes the system much more quiet and I can actually hear tire noise now over the original droning exhaust. I'll post pictures soon. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Cool, florindi. Would be interested in pics/vid/sound clips of the resonator swap. The stock exhaust has always annoyed me but I don't really want to shell out $700 for something that amounts to not much more than a sound change since my car won't be modded much.

Cheap fix needed, no louder than stock, delete the drone, just a low deep growl wanted, dont need to spend $600 for new exhaust.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Sorry to dragup an old thread but I thought I would link this thread to florindi's pics on 24/7, showing his install of the Magnaflow 14616 in place of the stock resonator. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showp...3&postcount=85 I was contemplating doing this but with the cheaper non polished 12616 and was considering clamping it on with these to save all the labor charges: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/30732/10002/-1# But after looking at the pics of his install it looks like those clamps would not work due to the proximity to the bends in the pipe, welding may be the only option.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I saw that over on 24/7, it sounded like you had great results with the resonator upgrade. Labor included, ~ $150 is money well spent if it does eliminate the drone--no need for a $500-700 catback. This is definitely on my list. FFF, was Jeg's the best price you found for the 12616? | Not Ranked : 0 score I have a GHL w/out optional resonator that i'm seriously considering trading/selling for a mazdaspeed catback. how are the welds on this since i've seen numerous posts about the welds cracking by the muffler? i've had the mazdaspeed catback on my n/a 3 and it a very loud drone around 2500-3500 rpm so i want to know if this drones a lot too. the ghl w/out the resonator gets pretty loud and i'm looking for a slightly quiter one.

| Not Ranked : 0 score The Cobb TBE was the quietest. I don't think you can find them anymore, but Haltech, myself and several others from this forum got together to take audio measurements with a dosimeter comparing between stock, the Cobb, and an HKS. The Cobb registered lower on the dosimeter than the stocker during WOT and at idle. It's too bad they aren't available anymore. It was a subtle and clean tone. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score well coming from having the CP-E TBE with high flow cat on our Speed3 for 2+years, and now stock...my son misses the extra hp and growl...Personally i have no issues with the stock exhaust or the loss of 15hp....since we bought the extended warranty and WANT to keep it intact our only exhaust ATM that would be covered is the MazdaSpeed CBE..and my son asked that we put this on for his birthday...I no there is no way possible for it to be as loud as the CP-E TBE but we are hoping that it does have a deeper growl than stock...we also no this will not add more power which is OK for now. I talked to my mazda dealer about some of the welds and leaking issues and they mentioned that if problems come up they car re-weld them for us so i am not to worried about this. My concern is dishing out $600 bucks for the CBE if the sound is not any different than stock...????????? any folks out there happy with this CBE??? does it sound good???? any issues so far??? I will check out the sound clip ferdball put on tonight, and i am hoping this soundclip is just with the CBE and no downpipe.... as this computer has no sound... I no it may be lame, but sticking with only mods on the car that will not have an issue with my warranty...

| Not Ranked : 0 score I have a CPe TBE. Did we decide that getting a RB catback would make my car a lot quieter? Any ideas on the horsepower/flow expense involved? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I wanted to get the mazdaspeed as well not because of warranty purposes but it sounds good and a has a really good looking tip. i like the rb too but i want to know if the dual chamber muffler can cause a decrease in performance since the stock is a straight-through already.

| Not Ranked : 0 score While we're making out our wish lists...if anyone has the RB CBE and a race pipe, I'd love to hear a drive-by of that combination!
