Where is your catchcan mounted? Above or below the PCV on the block?

How many miles have you run it? I am catching about two to three ounces every 1000 miles. Ed |

Sounds to me like something is wrong. Are you sure you have the PCV valves installed properly? You should be able to take the piece of hose that is the vacuum source- the one that goes to the top of the engine - and suck on it and pull air from the bottom crankcase area through your new second PCV valve. If this is not hapenning then you probably installed the PCV valve incorrectly. Ed |

Sounds to me like the factory PCV is not functioning. Thats the one that is connected to the long hose that runs to the "in" or top fitting on the Saikou OCC. So thats the PCV that would allow the junk the enter the catch can.

shouldn't it be installed in the same direction as the stock one to allow flow into and then out of the can in vac but not pressurizing the can. i can suck but not blow through the one coming from engine and can blow but not suck from the one going to the intake. pretty sure that it is correct

What kind of catch can is it? Is it a cheapie Ebay one or one with actual collection grid/media in it? If it's a cheap POS, then you may not get a drop out of it no matter where it's mounted. If it's something as good as a Saikou, then I have no ideas as to why you're not getting anything...

Another possibility is the hoses. Our cars put in quite a bit of vacuum and the hoses are pretty long. What kind of hose did you use? I am using a marine grade gasohol proof hose with a Saikou Michi can and not having any problems. The hose that I am using is very stiff and will not collapse under vacuum. If you are using one of those lightweight, clear, and not oil/fuel proof hoses it may be collapsing and not pulling a lot of air from the crankcase. Ed |

Either your hoses suck, or the factory PCV is bad.

I should probably check my OCC now that I think about it. Checked it last week and nothing came out.

Some threads should be revived if someone has a problem that relates. That's why they're here in the first place. You guys tend to forget that there are tons of great, informative threads from even 3 years ago. |

The OP has not logged in here for almost 3 fucking years, Dash08. Posting asking for update is what is getting the guy the shitstorm.

could it be simply that not every engine will produce blow by? I've tons of experience working on a variety of Nissans and I would run into the issue on the VQ engine platforms quite often where some will produce tons of blow by caught in the OCC while others (installed the same on the same motor of a different car) will produce next to nothing. It's odd I know but no two engines are exact. The Nissans and Infiniti engines did have some recall issues with oil blow by / burning in some cases, but again even on models whos vin fell into the valid recall / TSB range many did not produce the oil blow by issues.
