catless downpipe!

Noob question. Will 3 inch catless dp fit stock exhaust piping?

Donut style flange/gasket, yes. Introduce yourself in the NATOR IL forum too!

Are you replacing the midpipe and second cat too? It's best to stay a full 3 inches back to the CBE. That means replacing both the dp and the midpipe with 3 inch aftermarket pieces. And, yes, most dp/rp combos come with the correct flanges and gaskets to neck down to the stock CBE at that point.

You'll see better flow by doing it this way, the stock midpipe has a restrictive low flow cat too. By staying 3 inches back to the beginning of the CBE, you give the extremely hot exhaust more time and distance to cool down. The hotter the gas (hot gasses expand), the more pipe diameter you need for good flow. The cooler the gas (cool gasses contract), the smaller the pipe diameter you need to flow without restriction.

If you can have a full 3 inch pipe for both your dp and midpipe, the gasses will have cooled down enough that the stock CBE can handle the flow with little or no significant restriction. That's why CBE's typically do not produce any power gains, but good dp/rp combos make great power gains.

Maybe I was not clear. I was trying to find out the diameter of your test pipe. It needs to be 3 inches, rather than the stock 2.5 or so. And your downpipe needs to be a full 3 inches. They are not all alike. Some downpipes are stock diameter. So are some test pipes. You need 3 inches in both the downpipe and the test pipe and then neck down to the stock CBE. If you have smaller sizes than 3 inches up in the super hot part of the exhaust stream (dp and rp sections) you will still get restriction and turbulence.

Translation: You purchased the full downpipe, which required the removal of the OEM downpipe and mid pipe.

And I think he answered my question, but only in his sig - it is a full 3 inch long downpipe. So he's 3 inches all the way to the CBE. Nice. OP does not need CBE upgrade unless he's looking to change sound, because CBE will NOT make more power for him. Je's fixed the flow problem -- all the restrictions are upstream of the CBE.

I hope he drives it a bit before making that decision on CBE. I found the catless dp/rp to have a big increase in sound volume (read: LOUD) and a very bad drone when deceleration through the 2,500 rpm range or cruising in that range. I had to put a reso in the rp section to take that.
