Catted or Cattless

I'm getting ready to purchase a TBE, and i'm wanting to go ahead and do it all at once with my FP internals. I wanted to go with the CNT Cattless DP and CNT CBE, but the Cattless DP is on back order for 3 months! However they do have Catted DP's in stock. I really want to go cattless because i will be going BT in the next year plus i really just want it to sound sick!lol My question is should i get the catted, wait for the catless to come off of back order, or let my impatience get the best of me and go the cheap ebay cattless route? lol

Dmurray06 01-05-2013 09:44 PM

Buy a different catless DP...fuck waiting 3 months for a downpipe.

Etipp98 01-05-2013 09:46 PM

Just get a Ebay Catless Dp... I run one with my CNT catback.

SC08Speed3 01-05-2013 09:46 PM

That's the what I'm thinking.. Just need to decide which one! lol

smoogs12 01-05-2013 09:47 PM

CNT's catted dp isnt that great from what I have seen.

IIRC the cat that they use is super restrictive.

Is yours the M2?

boostdmazda3 01-05-2013 09:55 PM

Go cpe catless if want a long quality downpipe. Or go with a combo downpipe and testpipe like corksport or turbo xs.

Etipp98 01-05-2013 09:55 PM

M2/speed daddy its all the same.

ABSpeed3 01-06-2013 03:05 AM

M2 FTW. I have a sound clip paired with my HKS if you want

Ryguy 01-06-2013 05:21 AM

I have a ko speed and im pretty sure its the same as the m2.

Monotonous ONE 01-06-2013 05:32 AM

Anyone remember when everyone used to go "OH NOEZ YOU CANT HAZ CATLESS CAUSE OF BEWST SPIKES!!!!11!"

On a somewhat related note when I went from testpipe and stock primary cat to a cnt catted downpipe i literally felt 0 difference and it sounded exactly the same

so stay the fuck away from the cnt cat

makes you wonder why its so cheap =)

Voltron 01-06-2013 05:58 AM

Catless all day. You haz a racecah silly.

That would be awesome! I did notice that M2/speed daddy/ etc. all have nuts and bolts for the downpipe to turbo connection.. did you use those or reuse/get new studs and nuts?

Reuse stock hardware and gaskets, the ones they provide suck.

ABSpeed3 01-06-2013 12:35 PM

I just reused the original studs I think..and DO NOT use their DP gasket. Reuse your old one if it still has life..if not buy a new one. Ask me how I know

Sound clip is best at the end of the video

Thanks for your help man! And I figured that DP gasket wasn't the best! I will probably just order a new gasket and studs just to be safe..

ABSpeed3 01-06-2013 12:55 PM

Studs you should be alright..a couple of mine backed out it was no big deal though. This is my M2 gasket after about 9 months..

Catless for sure. I had a cp-e catted downpipe and then cut the cat out of it last week and straight piped it and it made a world of a difference. Certainly go catless!

I have a CP-e DP from 2007 (verified with CP-e and the DP is great with 45K-50K on it so far)

Not all cats are equal.

This is very true! I'm just glad i live in a state that doesn't require inspections and isn't strict on exhaust and modifications!lol Makes my life a lot better!lol

NICKELL666 01-06-2013 05:02 PM

Any one use straight copper rtv red on their exhaust and run into problems? I honestly prefer doing this rather than a gasket.

Awesome, Thanks for the heads up! It makes me feel a lot better with all the positive things everybody is saying about the M2 cattless downpipe!

I'd never do this as a MAIN sealant.... MAYBE as a precaution...

MSMS3 01-06-2013 05:41 PM

Spend a few extra bucks and do it right. TurboXS dp/rp combo comes with flex joints in both pipes, superb fit and finish, cast bell mouth, and a huge assortment of adapters, flange spacers, gaskets, nuts and bolts to connect to just about anything.

Oh, and keep all your stock resos because that fucker will be LOUD. In case I forgot to mention, 3 inch catless = loud. And run your a/c in recirc so you don't smell the fumes like everybody had to before cars had cats.

That's my only gripe about catless. When the defrost is on you can def smell the fumes. Performance is great, and the sound.... Well that's straight racecar status.

The 240 guys around here swear by Rutland stove cement. They use it for everything exhaust from the block to the catback, and never have leaks. Takes some muscle to get the parts apart as well.

Tapatalking

pzr2874 01-06-2013 06:17 PM

Or a long razor :ugh:

SC08Speed3 01-06-2013 06:21 PM

I've always just used regular gaskets on all my cars with aftermarket/modified exhausts and never had any problems!

Reason I ask is cause l've had awesome luck on my mustang with just copper rtv red but its also gone through a lot to make sure all mating surfaces are true and clean. But honestly how bad can they be on the DISI

Spoofmastafly 01-06-2013 06:30 PM

Ive always covered my gaskets in copper sealant. I wouldn't trust the sealant by itself.

Ill be putting mine on soon as well but I got a speed 6 with cpe dual exhaust so im hoping its not overly loud as its my dd. I might weld a quality high flow cat on it if the fumes and noise are too much!

i just installed the ebay catless yesterday and yeah the gasket and bolts they give you are horrible. its sounds fantastic just make sure you remove the alternator heat shield when removing the stock dp or else it wont come out--this took us so long to figure out on my buddy's gen1 install.

attached is the sound clip of my car on a cold start :fing26:
