Clicking when A/C is ON from passenger side Today, I was idling in the underground garage and had the A/C on while I took a look and I heard an off-best ticking noise from the passenger side of the engine, I suppose the valve cover but more on the chain side only. I was concerned, but I tried it with the A/C off and it went away. My car just rolled over 100,000km...is this the dreaded VVT failure? |
a/c clutch going bad maybe? ... it is constantly spinning with the crank and a/c clutch engages to run the compressor. Or maybe just worn bearings. |
VVT will have major rattle at startup, goes away. Timing chain loose, rubbing valve cover is another. Can you post a video? |

Its the tensioner plate. My car has this even after dealer replacement. Here is a youtube of mine when it first happen before dealer replacement. |
Yup, that is exactly what mine does. If you don't mind me asking what was the cost to fix that. |
it was under warranty. Whats funny is I change the drive belt today and the sound went away. I had to change the drive belt because a small pebble got in there and chewed up on of the ribs, so I changed it before it gave me any type of issues. |
Has anyone fixed this problem on their own? Did you need to just replace the tensioner plate or is there more? |
I am having the same problem, my car has about 62k miles on it and I took a vid from the engine bay and fp wheel yfrog Video : http://yfrog.com/msz3nz - Uploaded by zelliott15 yfrog Video : http://yfrog.com/n257601056z - Uploaded by zelliott15 |
It's been two weeks since I changed the drive belt and it seems to have completely nullify the sound. Haven't heard it since. |
