I wish there was a way to convince him that it probably will blow and to take preemptive action. I insisted that something isn't right.. he said he'd call the tech line and double check.

How do I absolutely KNOW he's going to say that the tech line said it's normal.

Should be cardinal rule that all Mazda Tech's become active members of MSF to learn about the cars they are working on. But more importantly, learn to properly diagnose issues outlined here to fix other non forum owners rides.

Ill write Mazda again

Well its funny this topic was posted because i have started getting the same vibration. I saw this thread yesterday and freaked out. So i pulled the oil pan and checked the rod. All rods looked good. Didnt' see anything out of the ordinary. I have a little bit of mods done but shouldn't be hard to take back to stock if something were to happen. What is the factory warranty....3/36,000 or 5/50,000? I was really worried last night but i think mine may be a clutch problem. I guess only time will tell.

I just got a call from the service department. It looks like the tech line is aware of this issue. He said that the tech said to check compression and other items related to the motor and not the transmission.. "I guess another speed 6 had this problem and it turned out to be motor related.. we're going to keep it if you don't mind to prevent additional damage.. just in case... but, I won't be able to get to it until Wednesday"

K.. NOW we're getting somewhere.

hehe

Great! Now what?
Yeah I had a compression test done and they said the same thing. I had low compression in cylinder 3 and the guy said says dont worry about it as long as its running fine and not misfiring. I thought this was bullshit right away. He also used "we see a lot of speeds with this issue".

I believe my low compression is leading to a motor issue that is leading to these vibration and its going to go soon. I can hear it starting to make a different, louder, ticking noise as well.

So if the #3 rod is bent a hair it will show a bit lower compression?Maybe I will do a compression test tomorrow if i have time.Im waiting on my bsd kit so I can take off my oil pan and look at the rods.Im wondering if the rod is only bent just alittle bit but enough to cause vibs if I will even be able to tell if it is bent by looking at it while its still in the motor.

were they on this forum? Mods? Any possible cause? I checked mine and like I said from what i could see it didn't look to be bent in any way. I examined it pretty good. We turned the crank and got several different angles to check it out. My vibration isn't bad or anything . Its just really slight my buddy drove it and could tell something was there but said it didn't feel bad to him. I can feel mine in both the gas and clutch pedal. Its wierd though because I have had an SRT-4 and a Scion tc and after about a year they both felt this way. Thats why i haven't really thought about it too much.

I dont believe that it necessarily has to be a bent rod. I think its something going bad in the motor(a bearing of such, a wrist pin, something) that is leading to a busted or bent rod. Im sure a lot of guys have this and its not a big deal if your pushing normal boost, then it just takes time to finally blow, but if your pushing more boost it probably speeds the blown engine process up.

We need to find out what is going bad because it seems to be a big problem.

I have low compression in cylinder 3 and I bet if a lot of others with this issue get a compression test done they might also. Im not much of a mechanic or engineer but I think this is leading to the problem. Can someone explain what low compression does to an engine exacly? And how it maybe leading to these issues?

Detonation causes bent rods, not bad wrist pins or bearings... A bad bearing will seize the motor, not bend a rod. Bad wrist pin causes the rod to shatter and exit the block.

Make sure you let us know asap after you hear from your dealer on what the problem is.Its killing me not knowing what is causing this and I want it fixed. They should be looking at your car today so maybe they will know something tomorrow.
