Clutch time

Ok guys clutch started slipping and i am looking for a new one. I know they are many thread on this so i will keep it simple and short. I dont ever really plan on running more then 400ftlbs of tq. Even with a bt. I currently run a ko4 with meth. From what i hear act 6 puck with streetlite is good. I guess my question is that i d.d the car and i like to have fun. Street racing and drag every now and then. I am not out there to set any world records so keep that in mind. I just want something that will last and handle some good power. Contradicting much? Lol but i am sure you guys understand what i mean by that. So anyone with the act combo and what mileage you are at now with it. Thanks for any help.

If you're not going above 400 LB-FT throw an OEM on there with Fidanza flywheel. Excellent clutch, will last for a long damn time.

No useful advice from me, but I'm reporting in as someone in the exact same position as OP. I was starting to lean towards a South Bend stage 2 daily.

I am sure the stock clutch would not last that long at say 370tq. I say that bc it from the factory u tune the car to make that much power people clutches would fail sooner. The only reason we see them fail around 50k or so is bc people had there car tune around 300tq for 20-30k b4 upping the power with meth or more bolt ons.

I don't know ahout that. My OEM clutch came out at 27K and still looked new. It was slipping because of the pressure plate only applying good pressure to half of the clutch. The technician said that the inside of my bellhousing was pretty clean, and he actually showed me my disc when I came to pick the car up. It looked to be in good shape, and the uneven wear was pretty evident.

I was on E85 for probably 1/2 of that mileage. Maybe longer.

btstarcher 09-10-2014 12:48 PM

I was at about 350 wtq and mine came out at about 60k miles, still had lots of life left. I still have it for when the replacement wears out, probably at over 100k miles.

Well i am running 350-370 tq and she is slipping on me. Car has 67k on it

And from what i seen alot of guys who had slipped clutches report the same thing. Clutch looked good, life left, etc.

I made ~430lb-ft in my MS3 for over 30k miles with the stock pressure plate, stock disc, and Fidanza flywheel. No issues with it. If the clutch is slipping at that low of mileage, you might want to consider your driving. The stock clutch will hold just fine if you aren't slipping everywhere like a lot of people do.

Lacey28 09-11-2014 10:26 AM

What do u mean my driving? Like ffs?

Nel Mazdaspeed 09-11-2014 10:27 AM

I have SBC stg3DD and it feels great! A lil pricey but worth it in my opinion. Holds up to 430ftlbs.

He probably meant normal driving; ie. how much you slip the clutch when taking off.

maisonvi 09-11-2014 11:36 AM

Im at 100K miles and on the stock clutch. Been making 350+ tq for the last 20K miles plus had 5 track days on it so far. Im planning on swapping it out soon when I build, but its holding just fine. I dont do much city driving though, so not a lot of slipping.

Lacey28 09-11-2014 01:51 PM

I believe my driving is fine. It seems some clutches hold up well some dont

I too am in the same boat. Replaced my clutch last year and it recently started slipping again. I pretty much let it fall on its face at take off and never FFS. Also it only has 3 drag passes on it and no launches on the street. The car has 44K on it and I have a second OEM clutch slipping already on E85. So naturally I don't want to use OEM again regardless of people claiming the stock clutch holds well.

Luk kit with Fidanza flywheel comes up to about 673.. I rather do a ACT 6 puck a bit more moneyz, they do sound terrible at idle tho...

You replaced with an oem? It seems hit up miss with them. My car is perfectly fine, clutch feels good when shifting and everything only slips on wot. I could lower the power but who does that lol

You replaced the pressure plate as well?

Lacey28 09-11-2014 08:59 PM

ya and the first clutch went at 24k. The previous owner was an older guy and I have a feeling he used to sit on the clutch in the traffic he used to drive in everyday. The first time around the parts didn't even look that worn. I work at mazda so a tech did the work here and that's what we came up with.

everton99 09-15-2014 10:18 AM

On the off chance you haven't purchased your clutch yet Edge has a sale going on this week for clutches. 10% off all but ACT and CP-E.

Lacey28 09-15-2014 12:36 PM

Thank you. Going with act
