CP-e cause it's a better mount for the intake |
COBB SRI VS CPE XCEL NANO Cobb SRI + TIP FTW! Nah. Either one you get will get you about the same results. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
brandons the man! |
differences -cobb carb approved, cpe is not (might not matter on your state) -cpe has a good mounting bracket, cobb breaks battery trays -my fuel trims on cobb +8 to +10% (no vacuum leaks), cpe +4% to +7% -cobb is cheaper |
If you are planning on buying new, good luck getting a cobb sri. I have had one backordered for 2 months and i just got told its going to be another 4 weeks. Ive also heard that the cp-e stuff is hard to get ahold of as well. Although the cp-e is probably easier to get ahold of. As far as quality is concerned, They are pretty much the same, both silicone with metal inserts for the couplings. The maf housing on the cobb sri is plastic vs the metal housing on the cp-e take from that what you will as far as heat xfer goes. The main difference as was already pointed out is the mounting bracket. The cp-e bracket is much better imo. Lastly if you order the cobb unit through Street Unit you can get it Blue/Red/Black, where as the cp-e is just black. Now the price I personally don't think that a metal maf housing and the different mounting bracket is worth an additional what... $30? Id just buy whatever you can find used and clean the filter. |
blue no shims. |
cobb hates mazdas cp-e doesnt |
b, you already know nukka |
get the corksport |
what about cai vs sri? |
which bov is t3h best? +1 nice wheels. |
I'm the best intake....I suck in air like no other |
sorry for stealing ops post but its total fail. Kgb u drive a speed6? seen one in your area I live like 30min away in zhills. |
Installed COBB SRI last weekend. No problems and like the extra performance and the sound is OK too. Don't know about how well the bracket will hold up as this is a new install. |

EDIT to OP, The CP-e Unit has a larger diameter (3") Take that for what its worth, not sure if it translates to an actual increase in performance or not. But its important if you are trying to mate it to either a stock or a cobb turbo inlet. |
the cpe sri is 3" on the silicone after the maf housing...the maf housing is still stock diameter. i dont think it makes a difference though, more so when it is mated to stock inlet. as far as my fuel trims being higher with the cobb...i double-checked for leaks...air-straighteners are not warped. might flow a little bit more air due to a bigger filter opening...4" on cobb, 3" on cpe. ecu is increasing fuel to match increased air. a lot of people with cobb has similar LTFT's. but what the hell do i know, i dont have anything to back this up |
That makes sense. It could also be due to the different maf housings? |
cpe and cobb matched stock maf housing. its about 2.6x" inner diameter |
look dude i started like a shitload of these kinda threads and guess what i got same answers cobb and cpe nano are pretty much the same besides color and size of fliter. I own the cpe nano it nice does what i need i get same gains either or. So do a little research before going and post this stuff cause i made the same newbie mistakes. RESEARCH IS AMAZING you can find shit here a mazda mechanic probably wouldnt know. So no matter what yua get your going to have color or matching under your hood. I talked to one guy who race a ms3 with a nano he had cobb he won 1 the other guy won 1. so it make no difference in cobb or cpe nano cause your going to get same gains maybe alittle touch diference in ltft and stft that pretty much it dude |
I have the answer Since the intakes are essentially the same...price is different CPE is the winner if: You like the idea of amazing customer service paired with a LIFETIME warranty Cobb is the winner if: You are a cheap fuck and want to pay a little less and want ZERO customer service Your call...me personally...im not going to be cheap with my car |
Im curious about the change in the LTFT's, If the larger filter on the cobb does = more air thus causing the larger adjustment in LTFT. The CPE does have larger hose diameter but a smaller filter. Anyone from CPE care to chime in on this or any of the other L33t smart dudes? |
it is not about filter size...it is about MAF housing size....doesnt matter how big the actual filter is...it is all going to be constricted to whatever size the MAF housing is...and CP-E uses the correct (forget the actuall diameter sorry...you can search for it though) size...Cobb is good too....some of the other off brand cheap ones will fuck your shit up because of the larger MAF housing...this throws your LTFT's all out of wack |
I have had both intakes and as far as I can tell there is little to no difference. The only reason I switched to CP-E was because I wanted a full 3" intake for my BT. |
Pretty much comes down to price. The results are going to be pretty much indistiguishable. Shouldn't this caliber of thread be over in the genpu section? lol |
I have the cobb SRI+TIP and I'm guessing cp-e is about the same... same sound, same performance... My mounting bracket did break though... nothing a couple zip ties couldn't fix |
