Don't ever listen to a dealer they just replaced mine saying it was bad cause they wanted to charge me 1500 bucks since my warranty is void. Little did they know cats and ecus are covered under federal warranty for 8 years 100k miles and you can't void those since they are federal emissions pieces. After 2 hours of arguing and the regional manager getting involved he called apologized and had it replaced.

Its listed as .7 hours of labor but any dealer charges you 1 hour. BS dealers tried to hit me for 2 hours. Yeah I didn't want to tell you about that and get your hopes up cause in the end if you can't get the dealer to call the regional for you your screwed. I had a second dealer call for me cause the service writer was a new chick who was nice.

true. the only thing now is go in there and fight it and possibly void my warranty and get it fixed or just leave it be. either way i will be bringing that up with them when i take the ecu to the dealer to get programed.

you need to show up with something in your hand - i would do some serious internet research on this federal warranty thing for emissions parts - i would even call a few various types of dealers and ask a bunch of ?'s about warranty info and what the government requires of a car company especially these days! i know i always get better results when i show up with info. in hand

little bit of an update.

so i got both the parts i needed yesterday which were a new coil off of mazda-parts.com for $70 dollars and a used ecu for 500 shipped. so i call mazda roadside and get the car towed to the dealership for free. so i'm in the waiting room and the guy comes in to tell me how much it was gonna cost. he said 3 1/2 hours for them to look at the ecu and reprogram it. also a half hour to program the keys to the ecu. said it was gonna be around 425!!

well i laughed at him and said he was lying since darksun had posted earlier it's .7 hours to reprogram. so he told me to come with and he'd look up the labor rates. sure enough it's .7 and .5 for the keys. he was pissed. so he goes to the mechanic and asked what all they were trying to charge me for. came back and told me they couldn't figure it out. so he some how said it would be about 2 hours total and 200 dollars. so i asked how he got 2 hours out of 1.3? he said since they had to pull the info from the old one that was .7, then to program the new one that was .7

so i said ok because i didn't feel like arguing with him anymore and just wanted my car back. he comes in a little bit later saying i had a cel which was a p 2006. told me it was because i was running more than stock levels, which he said was 12psi. lol i told him stock was 15 and i've had it up to 21.

well long story short it was a process that should never have happened but i can't complain because of the outcome. so for under 900 dollars my cars up and running and drives the same. well for the most part since i took the standback off and sold it. so now im drowning the car in meth til i can get an AP.

thanks for everyone that helped me and for not giving me to much shit for my mistake lol

Yeah man buck on those fools and take the the receipt and call mazda usa and tell them they charged you too much. I love doing that to them. Them book list .7 hours and that's keys and all. How do I know this cause I've had it done twice at 2 different dealers and its always .7 and they round up to one hour flat. There's two steps to it step one is loading your old data if its not available they pull general data down from Mazda usa and the second part is setting the keys. I don't hold back on these dumb ass dealers anymore the one by me quoted me 500 dollars for a new slave installed. When I told them list price is $119 for the slave and book labor is listed as .6 I asked them where they got the other 300 from. When all I got was stuttering on the phone I called mazda usa bitched this dealer out and told them I wanted my car towed out of there. Some Mada usa person called me a couple days later trying to offer me free regular oil changes as compensation but I use synthetic so I told them keep it.

yea also i told them about the emissions warranty and brought research in to show. the day before i had called a honda, and a different mazda dealership.both told me there is a warranty for that under those guidelines. so i argued about a half hour and kept telling them to call regional. they refused and then asked for their number. wouldn't give it to me.

he got ignorant with me and started throwing the idea of having mazda na come out and void my warranty. so i told him too and to make sure i get my word in with them. he dropped the convo quick and actually started walking away from me into the parts department where i couldn't go.

btw this was when i first got there before the above post started. they actually sent someone else out to deal with me. service guys are a joke

Ya cause they think that everyone is stupid and they are all taken off when someone with a brain challenges the all mighty dealer as they think anyway. Sometimes they can be so stupid.
