cold air intake

just got my mazdaspeed3 i am ordering my HKS SSQV BOV on monday but i am saving up for a cai..im wondering which one is the best for this car i was looking at injen before..any suggestions

DSIT995 12-26-2009 05:29 PM

1st off the search key is ur friend on this site, use that 1st b4 starting threads

Whatever "BOV" that u get just make sure its run in recirc mode, car wont run very well in VTA.

If I was to do it over again my first mods would have been a SRI (cobb or cpe) and a rear MM (cpe or su). If ur just looking for that "cool" sound and not performance go w/ a BOV but if i were u I would wait on that and go with the motor mount.

Ive run both cai and sri, and i didnt really feel much of a difference between them, so save ur self the $$$ and buy full intake (sri & tip) and a RMM :fing02:

BTW get urself an avatar and post some pics of ur ride!

haskms3 12-26-2009 08:30 PM

thanks man and im looking for performance

ATAZ 12-26-2009 11:20 PM

all his suggestions are best related to performance. you will get more for your money with a short ram intake over a cold air intake because with the savings you can afford a turbo inlet pipe and a rear motor mount...

HLR Element 12-27-2009 09:01 AM

yea, i'd say just go with a SRI... so much cheaper and we have an intercooler so i don't see the gains from a few degrees cooler air after it goes through the turbo... RMM is my first mod and i love it, don't cheap out with inserts, the stock mount is hopeless

if you can find a CAI used for cheap, then get it. provides a cooler charge than SRI, thus more power. if buying new, get a SRi like one of the others have stated. you can buy a used Testpipe for 100.

honestly, dont waste your time buying a turbo inlet if you dont have a FMIC. spend that money on something else that will net you gains, like a testpipe

here you go, CAI and TP for great prices, scoop them up

i read somewhere our cars run better with a bpv than a bov is this true? to what ive heard bpv recircs air, while bov vents to air, so to the second post what do u mean by "get a bov but make sure is in recirc mode"? can u do a bov recirc?

DSIT995 12-31-2009 07:57 PM

A BOV w/ the recirc hose plugged in is a BPV

A BPV w/ the recirc hose unplugged is a BOV, It all depends on how u run it.

I put the "BOV" in quotes b/c its a generalized term for both alot of the time, Im not saying that the OP is, but alot of ricers r looking for the PSSSSSHT sound, and not performance.....

I agree w/ 240 I would get test pipe b4 TIP, one of my first mods and it does give good gains for the $$$

08cosmic3 12-31-2009 08:21 PM

I went MM inserts, shifter bushing, Cobb sri, Forge BPV and Test pipe in that order. Best bang for the buck. If your patient you can save alot of money by living in the sale sections of the various forums.

As mentioned, go ahead and get a full mount instead of the MM inserts.

Be warned, the modding never stops and is only limited by the money you can spend.

There are a few cheap mods.

Independent fog lights................... FREE
LED interior and tag lights............... $30
Hood lift shocks............................ $70
Painted caipers............................. $20
Motorcraft synthetic tranny fluid...... $45

thanks 240 when i looked on his post he already sold the test pipe but i did tell him that im in for the injen cold air intake and also thanks for the advice about the inlet pipe i am going to now look for a test pipe

mazdaspeedkt 04-15-2010 09:51 PM

SRI will give you more low end get up as to the CAI will give you better mid range power....I personally love my Injen CAI cause the car already has enough low end power to pull on V8's but spin the tires alot also!

"Cobb"

knarfies 04-29-2010 04:14 PM

ok so bare with me as im new to this but why would you upgrade the motor mount?

darth vader 04-30-2010 08:51 AM

It's annoying when the engine rips its nmounts due to high power and falls out of the car.

Seriously, it makes shifting alot easier and helps contain wheelhop, etc. It's the minimum mod for engine movement control on this car.

knarfies 04-30-2010 09:25 AM

oh ok.

sorry i really am new at this. my first turbo.

but ill make sure to make that my next purchase as i just bought a injen cai.

darth vader 04-30-2010 01:25 PM

Here's a cheap and effective solution: Pull the stock rear motor mount and fill the voids you find in it, with 5 minute epoxy. Big difference, total cost, under $5.
