Corksport or HKS CBE?? Do I need a tune?
 

Hello! I have all of my exterior and suspension mods done and now I want to do a little bit to the engine. I currently have a Mazdaspeed CAI. The only other mod I want to do is the Catback exhaust for some sound. I am not interested in much more than this because I want to keep my speed as reliable as possible. I will be ok with just the CAI and CBE without a tune right? I don't plan on getting a DP or RP because I need to pass the emissions tests in Texas, and this will be my last engine modification.

Also, which do you guys prefer. I am strongly leading towards the Corksport because the tip is straight out of the back. I am looking for a nice mean exhaust note! From what I heard on youtube, these sound the best to me. Thanks in advance!

You don't need a tune, but the accessport would compliment the intake. I think corksport sounds the best, I have one sitting in my garage right now waiting to be installed but have yet to hear one in person.

Tune not needed. but Hypertech is very user friendly, very safe (which is a big concern to you), and works well with simple mods. It is considerably less expensive than AP. With a little shopping you can pick it up for about $330 including shipping. The flash takes about 5 minutes, it checks and clears CEL's, gives you basic options like removing the 0-60 power limitation, has maf correction for most intakes, raises load and boost limits modestly and safely, gives you usable power to redline, and flashes back to stock in about 5 minutes. Oh, by the way, no one using Hypertech, to my knowledge is going zoom, zoom, boom. If I forgot to mention it, it is SAFE.

I have the HKS and love it.. I have always been a fan of HKS so thats what lead me to buying the CBE from them. Its not Super Loud if thats what your looking for. I have heard the corksport and if thats what your looking for (loud-er) than I would say go with that. I also have a Down Pipe with Hi Flow Cat that I bought for more HP Gain and a deeper sound. Why cant you get a DP with Cat to pass emissions. And +1 on getting a Accessport.. That shit does numbers on my car.. I just have CBE and Intake and loaded a map and did a dyno run and showed 284.24HP and 349 TQ.. DOnt know how accurate the TQ was but the HP was about right. I had the car dyno'd last year and made 276 with mods before Ap.. GL with it all.

So for just the cat-back, the corksport is louder? Which one is produces a deeper sound? Thanks!

Just go to a muffler shop and make your own cbe for a fraction of the price and buy the mffler of your choice.

Haha, well money isn't an issue. I am just trying to decide between these two exhausts because I think they sound the best from the you tube vids. I'm just not sure If I like the HKS bigger tip at an angle or the corksport straight back tip. I keep changing my mind!

After personally hearing 3 Speeds with the CorkSport TBE, and 1 with the HKS, the CS is Definately louder, and deeper. If you want a slightly quieter performance, then HKS, otherwise, CorkSport.

HKS is the best exhaust for our cars hands down. Those who say other haven't heard it

corksports on my car and love the sound. cant wait to get there dp once they fix the cel light issue on it.

Why not just get the MS CBE? Not all ricey looking like the HKS and nice and deep like Corksport (just not as loud). This way you won't get harassed by the dealer when you take your car in for maintenance.

I didn't want the MS CBE because it isn't as good quality, and my dealer doesn't give me crap about it. They install all of my aftermarket parts.

Not as good quality? You do know it is a rebranded Magnaflow, don't you? And it is probably the least "drony" and most mellow of the aftermarket CBE's. I've never seen a Magnaflow CBE on any car that was not absolutely first class in design, quality and construction.

While I chose to stay with the stock CBE on this car because it flows so extremely well, I did put a Magnaflow tip on it at the same time as the catless dp/rp install, bringing the tip diameter down to 3.5 inches for a more stealthy rear profile. That company makes good shit.

I hate to argue, but It isn't. You can look at pictures of each exhaust and tell that the HKS and corksport are a little bit better than the Mazdaspeed exhaust. Not 10 times better, but they are a little. I have read multiple stories of the Mazdaspeed exhaust having leaking issues. PLUS, it is the most expensive.

Just look at the difference at the fittings and overall appearance.

Anyways, I just ordered an HKS exhaust! I just liked the look of this one the most after looking at pictures of each. I just couldn't get over the plate that they put on the side of the corksport tip that says corksport on it. Thank you all for your inputs!!!!!! I really appreciate it.

Wow that hks sounds very nice :) I know alot of people like the Corksport. Im seeking a new cbe myself. The turboxs I have is FUCKING loud!...It has the suby burble that i love, and when Im cruising 30-45 mph couple miles down street or going wot its fine, BUT when I take long highway drives @70 mph...FML...the drone is crazy.

Give me a cbe that has that subaru burble and yet no loud highway drone..and Im fuckin down!

OP, I'd personally go with HKS but on the otherhand fuck em they make enough support the more Mazda performance oriented CorkSport. Both do sound great ya can't go wrong with either. My exhaust is all mismatch brands sound fine to me:bigok:

The Magnaflow version (without the Mazda rebranding) is much less that Mazda's price. And yes, how often do you look under your car to see how shiny the pipes are? My TurboXS catless dp/rp are very shiny, but I never crawl under there to admire them. I just appreciate the performance.

I guess I'm late but I was going to vote corksport. I have it and it's loud and awesome. It drones like fuck in 4th at 3000, but I only really notice it when the windows are down. I still get a boner every morning on the first startup before the revs come down.

The more annoying thing is the clunking I get when the pipes are banging into shit. Sometimes it doesn't do it and sometimes it does it constantly as I'm rolling to a stop on smooth flat ground. I just bought Mode racing hangars and I'll see if that helps.

you'll pass emissions in tx as long as you aren't throwing a code. i have no problem with my cobb dp since it's catted.

Hey man. Looking around the magnaflow looks to be a little different than the MS one. I truly believe that magnaflow produces quality stuff. Better than the MS one IMHO.

I got my HKS exhaust installed today!!! LOVE IT! It sounds amazing and I can feel some power increase in the higher RPM range. Thanks for all of the help! Only pictures I have so far are crappy cell phone pics.
