Corksport Test Pipe w/out Equipment, Good to Install?

I'm receiving a CS Test Pipe for the MS3 and it looks like this Corksport test pipe today. It doesn't come with the bolts, nuts, and washers.. Am I going to have fitment issues? Do I need those or could I use the stock ones? Does this have a donut gasket that will mate to the stock DP properly?

phillyb 06-16-2010 11:07 AM

it looks like it might have the donut gasket already. if it doesn't, you can use the one that comes off of the oem mid pipe.
the hardware? i would go get new hardware. you'll need bolts that thread into the welded nuts on the dp.
i don't remember what else.

Ah gotcha. Just as long as it fits on the DP I'm good because the instructions do say just re-use the gasket from the OEM mid-pipe.

The other equipment on the list was:

2x M10 x 1.25 60mm Hex Head Bolt
2x Large M10 Washers
2x M10 x 1.25 Hex Nuts

You need the bolts, nuts, and washers. The bolts thread into the pipe as said already, nuts are obvious... i was missing the washers too and you need them. Luckily i brought my car a friend's shop and ... well, it's a shop lol so that was NP. Without the washers, the springs don't apply any force to the bolts and stuff.

phillyb 06-16-2010 11:32 AM

the nuts are welded into the dp hlr. no nuts on that side.
where it mates to the cbe though, one will need bolts, washers and nuts.

Alright. So do you guys think it's even worth it then to get this for $80 from someone offering to me local here.. and then go find these nuts & bolts, or should I just get it from CS for $149?

phillyb 06-16-2010 11:46 AM

def worth it.
offer him 50 though, and make him suck your nuts.
edit - oh wait...you're a brown guy...
umm.......
pay 200 for the used one. lol.
but srsly, donate to the site.

Yes. I bought mine used for about the same price. At prolly $6 total for the nuts/bolts/washers, it was well worth it. Afterall its just a damn straight pipe, nothing else. I didn't have to use the oem donut gasket for my SU pipe (as it is made to bolt right the the cbe w/o a gasket), but at 25k miles the oem gasket on my stock mid pipe was in good condition and definetly would have been reusable. Just be careful prying it off because its quite malleable.

IIRC, the CS has that huge funky gasket that mates to the DP side. I know you can't use the OEM gasket there.

As philly stated, you'll need bolts for the DP side that thread into the fixed nuts. You'll need bolts, nuts, and washers for the CBE side.

LOL! "fixed nuts"

Alright. Gotcha. I'll go get that from the guy after work then! Yay! I've got myself a test pipe on the cheap! Now to find an ETS TMIC... aaand a pro-tune..

HLR Element 06-16-2010 11:53 AM

yea, i meant the CBE side... not the DP haha, and did you seriously think that the price gap between the used and a new one was worth not buying a few bolts and washers!?

Well no.. I guess my main concern was making sure the DP side would mate up with the the OEM DP okay.. Because there's no removeable gasket on the stock midpipe for that side to use.

phillyb 06-16-2010 12:11 PM

stock downpipe will have a donut gasket on it.
stock mid pipe has a donut gasket on it. you remove the one from the mid pipe to put on your cs piece.
the one on the stock dp stays exactly where it is, and mates up the dp-mp

ms3brendan 06-17-2010 10:21 PM

I went to go install it today.. I get the subframe off and I get the brace off.. and all the bolts have been sitting in PB blaster.. I still couldn't turn the bolts on the OEM cat whatsoever.. either side of 'em on the cat-back side or the DP side.. I'm going to try and use a lift somewhere around here so I have enough leverage to use the breaker bar. Quite ridiculous..

HLR Element 06-17-2010 10:30 PM

^ same here, i thought with only 5k miles it would be easy, had to ask a kid in my class to use his dad's dealership. Put it on a lift and even then, the mechanic ended up having a problem with one of the bolts... still got it off. guy would listen to me either cause he supported the car by a portion of that bar you had to remove... wasted like 10 min right there -_-.

Yeah. And I'm not really sure where to rent a lift either, I'm not finding one anywhere. I wish I had the space or money to just buy a lift, I found a place in Massachusetts that sells 2 tower lifts for under $1500 which isn't a bad price at all..

Maybe I'll max out the jack stands or use all 4 and maybe I'll have enough leverage..

That's one of my biggest gripes with cars from the factory. They never use fucking anti-seize on the exhaust parts.

phillyb 06-18-2010 02:41 AM

breaker bar

There wasn't any room down there.. that's why I need to find a rent-a-lift so I can use one.

No anti sieze on this planet will withstand turbo exhaust temps, especially one with 2 cats midstream.

Use a good sized socket wrench and TIGHTEN the bolt a touch before loosening. 99 times out of 100 it'll wind right off.

That's good practise on any bolt or nut but, especially exhaust stuff, which is cooked to destruction.

Yeah I guess I didn't try that. I think I found a place right by me with 2 bays and 2 lifts that I can rent out for $8/hr which isn't bad. I'm gonna try and go after the weekend.
