DG Motorsports awd speed3 I know this is a fairly old topic, Just wondering anyone know the scoop on this? If this could be done for 1-2k I would consider doing this proabably. No more whheels spin would be fantastico!!! |
Naw man, I can pull it off in a couple of hours. |
thats really cool |
boil a unicorn horn in your meth mix and you will have an AWD speed 3 in no time ;) |
you need a fuel cell in the back of the trunk. |
|
haha... Reeally thought I think this would be worth while project Riding in ricks evo got me thinking about this awd is sooooo much better than wheelspin.. |

lets get a group buy for the awd kit. :rippedhand: lol, that website had me for a sec. after lookin at the other products, i feel kinda salty.:pat: |
I haven't looked at the old thread, but from what I remember you have to run a fuel cell where the spare tire sits, so you lose the spare or stick it in the trunk. Plus you probably have to pop the trunk to refuel, pain in the @$$ if you have stuff back there. If you're running meth, now you probably have tank in the trunk too, so the trunk becomes even more useless and cluttered. You'll probably need an MS6 transmission, transfer case, either MS 6 or CX7 rear end, custom driveshaft, plus whatever brackets fabricated. You'll need brake lines too I suspect. If the transfer case is ECU-controlled, you will need a way to make that happen, or figure out a way to do this without an ECU. Probably a lot more than $2k. It would be trick though. |
is there any guys from dg motorsports that can answer the question on how much it would cost. the awd speed3 they made is amazin. |
I think Tony from AWR (they did alot of the work on that car) said the conversion cost DG more than the cars msrp and it's not even 100% done yet. Sure you can do it, if you can pay for it. |
Damm you wouldn't think ti would be that expensive cuase the speed 3 tranny is the same as the speed6 it just has the back cut out.. |
FWD is such feeeeeeces! lol its no so bad I guess during lunch I ripped a 5.8 sec 0-60 measured with the dashawk at 18psi with MASSIVE wheelspin and clutch slipping bad once I hit 3rd. |

The best way would be to inspect a speed 6 rearend and compare it to our speeds, look at whats missing, from what they said in the video was they where still using the stock ecu the fuel cell is going to need to be custom made their might be a way to make it work with out having to fill up in the trunk just would have to carry a little less fuel or do duel tanks. With the drive shaft and fuel cell if you shop around you might be able get them for about a 1k then if you could get everything from a wreaked speed6 (-the drive shaft) you might be able to do it with a few grand < just make sure you have a good welding friend around> because it going to need alot of custom brackets |

Or you could just get a EVO or STI and sink 5-6k in that and see what happens. Damn, that's a lot of scratch for building a 4WD car. |

they quote people 10 grand(ish) to get it done. |
haha Man, before this awesome AWD kit, I was AIDS pos. The AWD kit not only allowed me to become neg, but the amount of black men that were attracted to me increased ten fold! Thanks AWD kit!! |
Hey, that exhaust sounds pretty nice! :wink1: From what we gathered from DG, they used components from both the CX7 and the MS6 to complete the AWD package for the MS3. They also had considerable help from Mazda USA on the hardware/ECU to get it done. It was not straightforward by any means unfortunately. |
