Does this look fucked to you? 2 Attachment(s) First pic shows a bunch of trash that was fished out of the trans with a magnet, second pic shows what looks like damage to some kind of floating metal ring located inside the diff. The gears look perfect inside it, but that pictured ring moves around relatively easily (in all directions). Thoughts? Edit: @SteelJM1; |
If that's the diff that could be part of the clutch pack or whatever we have that makes the lsd work. Does the car drive? |
Yes, but it "torque steers." I'm guessing this might be the cause of such a thing. There's also signs it's been drag raced with failure; a tooth is chipped on the ring gear. |
the chip could also be from one of those pieces getting jammed in there while the vehicle was moving, though i would be surprised if something like that only caused minor damage. |
Gearing/Diffs are definitely not my area but I'd say that looks a little fucked... Any other visible damage anywhere else? |
Nope, rest looks perfect. Not so much as a scratch. |
What are your plans if you decide this one isn't worth keeping? New oem? Quaife? |
It's not mine, it's @SteelJM1;'s trans. He's probably going to put a new stock replacement in it at some point, but for now we just put it back in as it is. The prior owner never hard launched it (even when tracked), and it's pretty much always had some torque steer; I'm putting 1 and 1 together and assuming that all instances of bad torque steer in these cars is a result of diff damage (since mine and a few other cars local to me don't have this issue). |
Understood, I sent him a message about it. |
Heh, well, looks like I'm gonna need to be taking the xmission off again anyway... |
