Ebay downpipe no inside weld?

9 Attachment(s)
So after getting emissions I figured it was a perfect time to get an ebay downpipe prior to retuning. Got it today, and massive holes in the box with the hangar and O2 inlet poking out. Big box and only a thin layer of bubble wrap around the pipe. Whatever, all good, looks like everything was still ok. All the welds look surprisingly good, except the pipe to bellmouth was not welded on the inside, and there's a bothersome large gap all around.

Two questions.
Are other peoples ebay dp's like this?
Do you think this will cause any flow issues that would actually have performance debit? Obviously the smoothest surface would be ideal, but I don't want to spend a ton of time welding and grinding if it's not really going to benefit the car in any way.

Thanks in advance.

This is common for the cheaper ebay DP's. I have helped put a few of these on. Some we tried grinding to smooth out the lip a bit others we just put in with no issues.

You get what you pay for. IMO

mine came that way. i had a cat welded into it, so i had them weld and grind that area smooth while they were at it.

My old CP-e catted DP came like this sorta... I took it to get welded up with SS

May weld it, or have it welded for piece of mind. I think even if it has little to know effect it'll drive me crazy knowing its like that. Thanks

I was also under the impression all ebay pipes come from one vendor, but apparently each do their own little touches. I have a random brand nameplate tacked onto the side of mine

So the shop said they wouldn't touch anything that deletes an oem cat. Went ahead and spent some time with a Dremel and grinding stones and put a nice bevel. Definite improvement to before, the picture doesn't do it justice.

Anyways one last question. Are people using the ebay turbo gasket included with the pipe, reusing their stock, or buying new oem? Im hoping not the latter because those puppies are expensive...

Problem with taking it to a "shop", do your own work.

Don't use the ebay gasket, they will fall apart and will most likely leak on you. you can use the original if it's not too jacked up otherwise buy one from edge for $50

I also recommend upgrading the v-band clamp as well. The one that comes with the ebay DP sucks and doesn't always seal completely.

Common. Had no issues with mine

definitely weld the inside and grind it down so it is smooth, those edges will become hot spots and the gap will/can lead to early failure, if you can't do this yourself find a shop and tell them it is for an off-road/track car.
