Default EGR delete input needed

Within the next month or so I will be throwing a BT on the car, and while I'm at it i'll be adding 2 catch cans and I'm considering an EGR delete.. I'm in search of any pro's/con's that anyone has to offer on doing the EGR delete.

Anyone who has done it, please chime in. Did you use a kit or did you make DIY blockoff plates? Most importantly im looking for those who have run into problems after the change, and what they were. Any input on difficulty, pictures to provide, stories, happiness, sadness..

Also, if anyone has any links to share that may have information on the subject please post, that'd be awesome!

Thanks in advance!

I have it done. Other then the happy clean engine light constantly on, I have noticed zero differences. I got the parts from whoosh.

I have the PT-P EGR delete that comes with their I/M spacer. It's simply a plug that presses into the EGR tube. I've drilled a pin size hole in the plug, just to avoid CELs.

I had been running an OCC for quite some time before I did the EGR delete, and there was no pool of oil in my I/M anymore, just a bunch of funk contamination from the EGR, and pre-occ PCV gunk, so I properly cleaned it up.

The back side of the TB:

Edit: If you're not planning on getting the PT-P I/M spacer, I'd recommend whoosh's EGR block off plate. Send him a PM

I do appreciate the info very much, thank you. Why would drilling a whole in the plug disable the CEL? just because it's seeing some type of flow, rather than nothing? I've already sent whoosh a PM haha, I'm waiting for him to get back to me. what do you think about the PTP spacer? have you noticed any difference in temps or anything else since you've installed the ptp kit?

who me? hah i didnt post anything on 247. i dont even fucking bother with that anymore, place is worthless if you want some real information. if you want to know if some wheels will look pretty on your car, that's where you go.

haha ive gotten use to it. since my DP install at 2,000 miles on the car ive been looking at the light ever since. you can clear it with the DH, but it just comes back. i dont have TPMS sensors either, so I have to look at that light too.

If that CEL is thrown by the O2 sensor, you can always do the non-fouler mod, if it works on this car...

You know, with ATR you can delete that code from your ECU so it doesnt throw the CEL anymore.

Just FYI.

What is the non-fouler method?

Essentially what you do is use a spark plug non-fouler or two to pull the o2 sensor slightly out of the exhaust path, that way a lot less exhaust gas gets detected by the o2 sensor, yet still enough that it doesn't throw a lean code (as if you zip tied it to the subframe or something).

Not sure how many non-foulers are needed in our car to make it work, though, but I would start with 2.

Here's a good example:

$5 o2 cheater/non fouler how-to - evolutionm.net

I've heard that the egr delete can cause cylinder temps to get too high. But i've heard nothin but positives about the egr delete until recently with the cylinder temp thing. Any second opinions about that?

Nope. The most knock I get is .35. After delete there was no increase nor decrease. Pretty much just keeping things clean haha

I'm not 100% sure on this, but if there is still a little flow of EGR, what ever sensor reads it, won't trip a CEL. At least that's the case on the MS6, which I've heard is more sensitive to an EGR delete.

I love the PTP spacer, I wish I had a DH to monitor the real benefits of it, but it seems others have done that. It does work quite well though, after a drive in like 70-80º temps, the I/M will feel cool to the touch, even after like 5-10min of sitting. The spacer really helps with heatsoak. Since heatsoak is reduced, the BAT sensor gets a more accurate reading, basically it will some-what preform the same duties as RR TB spacer, but also keep the mani cool.

I recommend it to every MS3 owner I know.

Mine came with both the TB bypass and the EGR-D, I'm not sure if they all do. I'd ask PT-P.

you can delete the p0401 code so it does not show up when you check for codes, however the check engine lights still stays on. till cobb fixes it at least

not that i know of.. people have discussed this in the past. i changed my EGR block off plate and put the tube back in.. took about 20 minutes.
and im (not really sure) thinking its on the throttle body side of the system. a hole there would just be a boost leak and a lean idle.

I'm in the process of making something to remedy the CEL for the EGR Delete. Well it's not a delete lol. Hopefully it will be ready next month. I will be making them to sell, so I can't divulge anymore info lol. Just have some patience.

I know how to get rid of the CEL. I took the whole intsrument cluster out, put some black electrical tape over the cel but behind the display. No more CEL.

Nah i'm talking about the block off plate. there'd be no leak, its just allows the EGR to partially work.

Then it would just VTA, you need it to be read by the MAP sensor or w/e to not trip a cel.

I've installed a bung in my EGR tube and drilled a tiny hole in it. Basically my EGR is restricted... very restricted. So no CEL, and my mani is this clean:

Compare that to my pics in the earlier post, and it explains itself.

Sorry... but what's a "bung"? So basically you plugged the tube and then drilled a pin-sized hole in the plug? That's what I'm gathering unless "bung" is not some strange word for plug.
