Engine cutting out/sputtering I have a 08 Mazda speed3 gt. Only mods are tip and Sri. I started to notice my car cutting out/sputtering when I'm driving slow speeds and rpms around 2400 to 2900. It will cut out if I step on the peddle. I noticed it bad when I was on the freeway about 65 mph. I stepped on it to get around a car and the car almost died. It does not Do it all the time but its starting to happen more frequently. I'm thinking my stock fp is going out but not sure any ideas? Car has not thrown any codes. Fuel pump, it wont throw any codes. you need something to monitor to be sure ( cobb accessport) |
i dont think its the fuel pump, low loads dont need very much fuel.... plugs gapped correctly? coil packs ok? maf dirty? vac leak? |
Check those as well. it could also be the relay at the fuel pump. Sounds exactly what was happening to mine under the same conditions though. Bought an accessport and check fuel pressure and sure enough, fuel pump crapping out even under low load conditions |
that sounds like a mechanical issue... normal fuel pump failure is just its inability to keep up with airflow (high loads) take a look |
It... ...might be the in-tank electric fuel pump... |
Spark plugs gapped at 30, MAF cleaned last week. Coil packs no idea, what would be a good way to check them? There is a in the tank fuel pump? I will also check the fuel pump relay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
logging would help us tremendously. |

Haha if I could I would but no way I'd be living in my car Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
So I broke down and took the car to Mazda. Apparently my tip is to big and the clamp holding my intake tube to the tip was rubbing the ecu wires which caused the engine to cut out every time I gave it gas or the motor moved! 232 dollars later they put some electrical tape on it and reset the ecu.
