Engine mounts.. whats the Best!! hey whats up im new to this forum and mazdas as well . i have searched alot of the forums on how crappy the stock motor mounts are on the mazda3's and speed 3's.. so my question is for who ever has replaced there stock engine mounts which mounts are the best for normal driving. my car is a 2007 ms3 all stock.. the previous owner of the car had mazda replace the rear mount once already i believe.. so any help on which mount i should try and get would be great. thanks |
Street Unit, TRZ, CPE. Take your pick, they're all good. |
something that is between 60-75 duro for every day driving. any higher and you will be shaking quite a bit. |
the streetunit mount I have for sale |
turbine tech FMM, PT-P's lineup, and TRZ dogbone RMM. /thread |
anything's better than stock, but i recommend the trz rear & tranny mount combo from protege garage. best bang for your buck. |
im rocking a cpe 75 duro rmm. |

thanks for all the replies going to order one tonite.. One more question not about the engine mounts tho.. has mazda or anyone come up with a Good fix for the smoking turbo problem at idle? just wanted to get more info on this, heard it was caused by the pcv valve or something ? any help on that would be awesome thanks again. thanks for all the replies going to order one tonite.. i'm thinking about getting the street unit at 62 duro |
installed the cp-e street versions rear MM.. Feels really nice. shifts better drives better. also installed the Mazda DIZI 2.3 turbo PCV fix.. car used to smoke after 5 min of idle time.. installed today let it run for 15min. NO More Smoke!! |
where did you purchase that kit? what did it consist of? |
for the smoking at idle. i installed the ptp pcv fix and changed my oil to 5w40. i did all this before smoking just as a precaution. i have never smoked and have a gutted stock dp and cpe catback. |

I just ordered the corksport rear mount inserts, can't wait to put them on....I have heard nothing but good news on it and one guy on here that has it already done to his 2010. |
A while ago I've got the SU RMM, the soft version (60 duro or so). However, even if it was installed and torqued correctly, after about 11k miles it looks as bad as the stock mount I took out with 35k miles on it, and it also gives some weird vibes when cruising around 2500rpm, and some weird noises when turning the wheel at low speeds (less than 20mph). Also, my rear hatch rattles around 1000rpm at very soft take offs (town driving), which is disturbing. At the last oil change, while trying to determine what's causing those vibes the guy that worked on my car took the mount out and it turned to be pretty worn, both the bushings and the inner metal bolt drive. Since this mount has a life time warranty I could probably send it back to SU to refurbish it, but because I'm on a different continent probably the transportation fees would be about as much as a new mount :) Therefore I thought I should take my chances with the CP-E. Since as far as I understand the CP-E mounts, even if they are a bit better built they are still prone to this kind of damage. So I'm also thinking to order the corksport inserts as well (ordered the CP-E mount already) and put them on a new OEM mount in case the CP-E mount fails. My only experience is with the SU mounts, so I have no idea which solution would be the best to hold the engine in place and also make the ride as comfortable as possible (it was at first with the SU mount for about 4-5k miles after the first 1k). So any suggestions, guidance, tips and experience sharing is welcome. P.S.: I know, there are tons of threads on this forum about the engine mounts, but that's why it's virtually impossible to compare all the solutions. Also, there are a lot of people who simply don't care if their car rattles or is not comfortable for 300+ miles drives eventually with a kid on the back seat, 'cause they're just looking for race sensations, while I still want a decent and comfortable daily ride. |

i think i have my mind set on the CP-e one. dont see how a mount could drastically could differ that much. all of them are good quality |

TRZ Poly is like 75duro or something. I'm not after the stock mount comfort but the difference from stock is huge. If you also have a stiffer/aftermarket tranny mount I bet you don't feel the rear mount. I had the SU side mounts on for one week, those are 75duro, and my brain was totally overwhelmed trying to understand the language of the synchros :) |

I don't want something that will make my car have really bad vibes. I was torn between the CP-e 65 and the SU 62. Would I be safe in saying the CP-E is better? |
Not sure, but now after using the SU soft mount for a while I'd try the cp-e first if I had to choose again. |

Right now I'm pretty happy with the absence of the wheel hop. It's little to none, and I have only a RMM (the SU soft). I don't want more than that, so I ordered two sets of corksport inserts while I'll be waiting for the CP-E RMM (as a backup solution). I may put the stock mount with the inserts during the winter or whenever the aftermarket RMM will wear out. |
From what I take the trz dog bone is the best when cp-e. The dog bone has more vibes. I think I'm going to try the cp-e 65. |
I just received the corksport inserts for the stock mount. they are incredibly stiff and now I wonder if the resulted mount is going to be a bit un-balanced. But looks to be a good workaround until I'll receive my Cp-E 60duro, since the SU Soft I have now makes some weird sounds even though it's torqued at 80lbft. Also, the CS isnerts may offer me the stiffness and the lesser cabin noise I'm after. I don't mind the vibrations as long as they are not really big, but the induced cabin noise form the current mount is a bit annoying in long and slow town drives. |
The inserts will soften up. I put on a used set yesterday and they are nearly perfect. Stiff at WOT and forgiving at idle/low RPMs. Slight increase in NVH at low RPMs with the HVAC engaged, but no cabin vibrations. I came from a CPE-75 RMM and I'd say the inserts retain about 50-60% of the rigidity. Perfect for a DD IMO. |
I just installed protegegarage's RMM, I bought the race one. Heavy vibes for about 1 day of driving after that its $$$. I love this thing, really connects you with the car. Its not uncomfortable or anything. |
I took out the SU mount and put the stocker back in with some CS inserts. Feels like stock, no vibes, the drone sound is now gone! The engine doesn't move too much though, but we'll see after the inserts will wear a bit. Now I'm on my winter setup anyway. I just hope the CP-E soft mount I'm waiting for will offer me the stiffness of the SU mount (which is very good except for the drone sound part) and the quietness of the stock mount (+inserts). So as I said, the CS inserts seem to be a good temporary solution. I've got 2 sets just in case. |
groan groan groan groan groan groan OP, I understand you're looking for help, but TRY AND DO A FUCKING SEARCH BEFORE YOU START A THREAD THAT HAS BEEN COVERED 1 MILLION FUCKING TIMES FOR FUCKS SAKE ALSO THE CP-E MOUNT IS PRETTY LEGIT. ITS SO GOOD THAT I JUST WANT TO YELL IT FROM THE TOP OF A MOUNTAIN, BUT I DON'T HAVE A MOUNTAIN, I HAVE AN INTERNET FORUM |
There is no thread on this forum that would evaluate the available aftermarket engine mounts objectively from several points of view: stiffness and drive experience, vibrations, cabin noise, durability. Obviously, a stiffer motor mount will bring more vibrations and noise into the cabin. But as we already know there are mounts with pretty much the same stiffness that bring a different amount of noise OR vibrations. Or last longer or less. Or, whatever. A search on the forum will tell you nothing. There are people who have the trz delrin and said it's great, some others purchased a delrin mount based on that and ended up throwing it. I'm not saying that trz doesn't make good mounts, I was just giving an example. My point is that there are several good mounts but for different applications (race, street, daily drive, and so on). I have a similar experience with the SU side mounts. They are awesome btw from the drive experience point of view, no wheel hop, no nothing, the front axle is stiff, all the power goes to the pavement. But before I purchased them people said the vibrations are minimal, and guess what?!, holy s.it!!, there was so much cabin noise that I threw the mounts away after one week (and no, they wouldn't break-in that much to reduce that noise significantly). |
I have to disagree with you there - there must be a hundred different threads with comparisons of the different mounts. Members here have drive each others cars, and members have tried out different mounts when they weren't satisfied with their first selection. You're saying that it isn't reasonable to expect someone to be able to reach a decision about which mount to get without posting another thread asking us to spoon feed them the answer? If so, how many threads must be created before we can reach such a point? I mean, it will tell you how each mount compares to each other mount - it really isn't possible for us to tell someone what their tolerance is, they have to decide it on their own, so no thread can solve that part. So I feel like saying such a thread doesn't exist doesn't justify the creation of this one. Either way it's a repeat of a thread that comes up at least once a week on this forum, and does nobody any good. It doesn't break new ground, it doesn't enlighten the forum any further. The information is already here, and it offends me that someone would expect us to cater to somebody that is too lazy to type "motor mount" into the search engine and figure out for themselves what they want. |
I had the su rmm with the soft bushings and they were torn and terrible after about 5-7k miles. Bought the street bushings to replace them and things were great. I also bout the side mounts. I bought a new set of rmm bushings because I'm pretty sure they are worn out again. I hate drivetrain lash. IMO the bushings will fail at some point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I will not argue with you on this one, the information is indeed on the forum already. But you try searching the forum by "motor mount" and see what you get. In the other hand, even though it may be useless, another thread on the same engine mounts topic won't do anybody no harm. Hopefully it will help somebody to take the right decision. |
Alright, fair enough - sorry I was a dick about it. I'm thinking the mods should start a sticky though, where all of the information is in one place. They could do the same for intakes and other 1st modifications. I know there's a "performance air intake" discussion in the 2nd gen forums, maybe something similar could be cooked up for motor mounts. |
I have the SU RMM and it's pretty good. I have the softest one and the only vibrations I experience are at idle with A/C on. But I never really use the A/C, windows FTW |
