Exhuast Manifold Feedback

Whats everyones opinion on this Exhaust Mani???

Mazda3Online :: ProtegeGarage :: MazdaRX8Online - Your Source for Mazda Performance

Yea its the PG and it looks nice and all but i wanna know is it worth the money and how hard/long is the install?? I wasnt going to get it so I can get the Exhaust Depot FMIC but i gotta wait for the cash for the FMIC kit. So until then I wanna get this to complete my removal of all mazda's great restrictions on our speed 3's. So please everyone give me your opinion on it. If you own it preferred either way every1 is welcome to comment.

I'd like to know as well as the gains and installation difficulty level, kind of like compared to the install of a downpipe on our ms3. I've done the full downpipe install and it wasn't hard, just alot of little bullshit here and there.

Lymerock 09-01-2008 07:04 PM

I ran the V1 and loved it, I now have the V2 sitting on my floor waiting for install.
Its a great mod, the only downside is that the V1 didnt fit well with a tmic. so anyone with a fmic was fine, now that the V2 is out only a few people have installed em so cant say how much better fit is. Ill know in another week.

hardest parts of the install were removing the heatshields and getting the studs out of the turbo, I had it about as bad as it come (i snapped a stud in the turbo) but was able to drill it out easily. Not sure anyone else had that happen to em. Use lots of PB blaster and some map gas (dont worry, the pb doesnt burn that well) and they should come out easy

having a 14mm swivel ratchet head wrench helps alot, also used an offset box end wrench for 2 of the manifold nuts which helped.

PG vs DNP.... fight!

Grim 09-01-2008 07:24 PM

the install is pretty simple.

ev0nstispanka 09-01-2008 08:13 PM

what you put down on the dyno becuase we both got the same mods?

I have HKS SSQV Recirc., Exhaust Depot DP/TP Catless, HKS CBE, and i wanna get the Mani. Also upping the boost about 1psi or 2psi. got the ms cai as well.

no doubt about it, you can feel a difference with the manifold, a significant one. Spool up starts a bit lower, turbo noise gets louder, exhaust tone changes and your mileage will suffer a bit

diff between V1 and V2 is that V2 has a shortened 4th primary to aid in tmic inlet tube clearance

never dynoed

MazdaMan13 09-02-2008 02:01 AM

do the fmic first that way you only remove the tmic once

Grim 09-02-2008 07:29 AM

its better to get exhaust restrictions out of the way than a fmic.but a fmic is next on my mod list

thanotosq 09-02-2008 08:06 AM

i have a V1 and love it; however, i also installed it with a CS DP, so who knows where all the gains came from. Still, the gains were very significant! Very! I could not believe how much power it released. I dont really have any proof (dynos), but i would venture to say that PG, reputation aside, is not kidding about the gains....

Also, i have an Exhaust Depot FMIC (truefanatic's to be accurate) and it works fine with the V1, so the V2 shouldnt be a problem in any way.

i can feel it,but i guess i was expecting alot since i put a dp,mp and mani on the same day.

gsrtype1 09-02-2008 08:18 AM

thats pretty sick...you gotta be putting down decent #'s.

i also thought about it well and yea im still gonna do the Mani then the E.D FMIC. nice i was also looking at the design of the mani and it does look pretty straight forward. I dont have to touch the turbo right??

Grim 09-02-2008 12:30 PM

the only thing you have to do on the turbo is take out the 4 studs

i didnt even know there studs there. what do those studs connect to?? how much of a PITA is it to remove?? does the entire turbo come loose when i remove them?? what size socket/wrench would i need for those?

Any pics of the mani with a FMIC? im really dying to see that. Would greatly appreciate it.

Grim 09-02-2008 12:53 PM

there are 4 studs that hav nuts on the that hold the mani down.sometimes they come out with the nuts, sometimes they dont i had 2 that did.For the other 2 i got 2 of the nuts and put the on top of each other and turned the bottom one.just use alot of pblaster and youll be fine.

reminds me of dp for some reason. lol. how long did the install take you? did you do it yourself? (sorry for asking alot of questions)

ev0nstispanka 09-02-2008 01:14 PM

BTW anybody mess with that DNP manifold??

well i installed it the same day as my cs dp and mp,and that took me a total of 12 hrs.

if only it werer that easy....

With the CS DP and the boost gauge...about 20....PITA!!!

However, i am very much a noob and most of that time was spent searching and buying tools that i didnt even know existed. So, that being said, if i could do it...anyone can...assuming that you are as stubborn as me :AR15firing:

x2 + 1...i had 3 that didnt want to come out...

Lymerock 09-02-2008 01:59 PM

I had one that snapped :)
fun times indeed

if you remove the stock manifold, it will be easier to do the DP
so if you plan to do dp and mani, do em together

Grim 09-02-2008 02:11 PM

yea i installed the mani with the dp off,it was alot easier that way.

ev0nstispanka 09-02-2008 02:25 PM

The dp was completely off??

Grim 09-02-2008 02:33 PM

yes,i was installing my new dp that day,so i took off the stock dp first then the mani, then put the new mani on.

ev0nstispanka 09-02-2008 02:44 PM

o..thats right. but do you think i would have to do the same??? how much more would it help?

Any feed back anybody from that DNP mani??

mrjoshyman 09-02-2008 02:57 PM

ne1 have sound clips? im curious how the exhaust note changes

Grim 09-02-2008 03:06 PM

as long as you have an aftermarket dp im sure youll be fine.

ev0nstispanka 09-02-2008 03:26 PM

i do.

and yea anyone got anybody got clips??

ev0nstispanka 09-02-2008 10:59 PM

guess no one owns the DNP manifold?

Grim 09-03-2008 07:41 AM

dada does

4thStroke 09-03-2008 08:53 PM

Are you guys getting away with reusing the stock manifold and turbo gaskets?

Anyone know if PG has studs they send with the manifold in case some are snapped?
