Finally put the car up on the lift. There is a huge fucking hole on the back of the block. There's a small hole in the front directly opposite. The turbo oil return line was in the line of fire and broke off as well.

Cobalt guys wised up though and once they get above 330 whp they started to concentrate more on power to weight, suspension, and traction and are more focused on their Et's then their dyno numbers for now. End of the day no car is fail if you have a quick ET.

In the car world we sometimes forget we try to make these crazy HP numbers so that we can run better times at the track. Our community is so preoccupied with blowing up and getting high hp dyno numbers we don't have enough gutted, slicked up soldiers going to well preped tracks trying to salvage our dignity. I am a culprit of this as well.

18psiWhiteMS3 09-16-2009 06:30 PM

look on the bright side OP. now they can work on ur car from the outside without removing the motor. then when they are done a little JB weld to patch the hole and walaaaa 400 whp

Scatt Nasty 09-16-2009 06:37 PM

yeah your rod just lost the 60k mile long arm wrestle.

funny you can see that big retarded balance shaft gear there just pointing and laughing at the rod next to it that got owned.

jwdp54 09-16-2009 06:46 PM

cause he prolly didnt get the opportunity to remove it till he was like 40k miles in lol...

Lex 09-16-2009 06:54 PM

You going to tear into that and see what went on?

NRSpeed 09-16-2009 07:03 PM

You nee to go back to the start of your oil puddle and see if you can find the rod sticking out of the asphalt. Jesus that thing packed its bags and made a nice door for itself.

Bye bye my 3 brothers, Ive had enough *SLAM*

18psiWhiteMS3 09-16-2009 07:06 PM

i wonder if its the same cylender in all the blow ups. we need to look into this. maybe its a mazda defect on that specific cylender. we need to direct inject meth into that cylender and have a start of 2psi and full at 5. that should rid us of blow ups

I don't see you working for COBB anytime soon dude.

Lex 09-16-2009 07:10 PM

It's not always the same cylinder

18psiWhiteMS3 09-16-2009 07:15 PM

then we need direct inject meth in all cylenders all the time

The teeth there are definitely fucked up. I'm wondering if that has been like that for a while or did the rod do it on the way out/caused by the rod leaving.

QuickSpool 09-16-2009 07:30 PM

Perhaps John was right in saying to take it off.....

stealthspeed6 09-16-2009 07:31 PM

i wonder if it has anything to do with the oil return line from the turbo?

Darksun280 09-16-2009 07:31 PM

That's defiantly from the rod exiting. The cut marks on the gear are too clean and fresh. Debri probably was stuck there after the rod exsit and that gear rotates alot. I wouldn't dwell to much on it there's no clues there to why a whole line of cars blow motors.

Thestaplegunkid 09-16-2009 07:44 PM

This is all too familiar. Sorry to hear about this, but atleast you had a bit of mileage on it ;)

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

SB.MS3 09-16-2009 08:06 PM

This whole paranoia honestly is getting quite ridiculous. How many people are there with speed3 that DO NOT JOIN FORUMS?

This is what happens when you slap bolts on and push the motor beyond it's tolerance... why is that so surprising still to some of you? If you don't want to blow and have this as your end result build your motor first before going the "bolt on" way.

To the OP- you had a good long run. Heavily modded engine with 60 or some shit miles is pretty good. Build that shit!

Its surprising because the percentage of our cars with just bolt ons or no bolt ons blowing seem to be way way more then any other car I can think of. Also about all the people that dont come on the forums how do you know how many of them have blown that we dont know about. I had a fully bolted probe gt before this and never heard all this shit about all there motors blowing and that goes for the mustangs also. I think the way this motor is now is crap stock or modded, just because you are stock dont mean you are not going to blow shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear at low rpms. I built my motor before it blew up but in the end Im kinda disapointed that I put this much money into this fail boat motor and I think to myself what kinda used evo or mustang I would have right now if I put this kinda money into it. The one thing I do like is the car is good on gas and it makes ok power and I drive 75 miles everyday to work so gas milege means alot to me but if you have to worry about blowing evey mile of every day it takes alot of the fun out of this car and that is another reason why I built my bottom end.

DCLXVI 09-16-2009 08:19 PM

what are the odds of a rod busting through the firewall and impaling you at least then mazda might make some fixes after erin brockivich gets a hold of them.

You know if you wanted peace of mind and good gas millage a camry would have better suited you, not forging your DI MZR motor. Face it man jokes on all of us......

ummm, we can go 80 in 3rd
and if it blows due to over reving they will give you a dunce hat and tell you to sit in the corner while the finish the paperwork to deny warranty coverage.

You had a built motor and still it blew up? I was only aware of 1 built motor that blew up and that was from an oil leak...

What exactly do you have to have to have a "built motor" rods/pistons/bearings/otherstuff? All of the above?

What did you have done to your motor?

Log's Ms3 09-16-2009 08:59 PM

Sorry to hear 'bout the motor, bro. Good luck w/ the= new one. Show us when it's done?

ya but I wanted something over 150hp.. lol .. And you are right, the joke is on all of us in the end. When i think about all the money I put into this car it makes me want to have the road runner drop a anvil on my head from a 300' cliff while I push wild E cyotote out the way,Am I along in this thinking??

:)

The op did not have a built motor,It was a stock bottom end.

lvmazdaspeed3 09-16-2009 09:06 PM

well at least it lasted a while 63k miles wowzers... i hope mine can last at least 50k cuz by that time i'll proabably trade it in

rtabagaboy 09-16-2009 09:22 PM

Sharkdiver I thought you were referring to yourself earlier about 'your' built motor blowing up. I think it was just a mis understanding. I am actually contemplating gonig the built motor route and then bolt ons. However, I would not have another car to drive in the mean time while that shit gets installed...

Still what components of the engine need/should be replaced to get fully 'built'?

Build and then Pwn.

Oh yeah... after building a motor and upgrading everything... the other thing that stops us from making power is mostly fueling since that is the limitation of the DISI engine part right?

turd burglar 09-16-2009 09:40 PM

Fuck man another one bites the dust. If mine pops after paying out my ass to get my stupid injector/pcv/intake valve fixed i'm gonna shit my pants. By the time we all fix these cars up each one of us could have a brand new cts-v i swear to christ this is ridiculous. Kudos mazda!!!
