well after reading this thread, I have finally decide on what im going to do. Im going to wait and see if ford brings a new turbo charged focus in 2011 like rumors are going i really want another focus specially a rs verson. If this doesnt not happen or some sort of a turbo charge hatch focus comes out then im going to trade me speed in for it. If not then im going to just build me a forge motor thats all i can do now at this point!!

I didn't say it couldn't I was just saying that's not the point of OEM design. But ya, anything can get re-engineered if you throw enough money at it.

My friends whole motor build for his 06 WRX is roughly 15K... and he's building the motor first- the way it should be done.
And that illustrates my point, thank you. I paid $25K for a whole car, and your friend is sinking $15K to make a similarly priced (new) go faster. That's $40K. If I had that kind of coin I'd have bought a different car than an MS3, or WRX.

Unfortunately, here we have a brand new platform and people right away think they're going to slap on nothing but bolt ons, load pre-loaded maps (that are meant for disaster) or get a bad costume tune or god knows what else and they're surprised when their shit blows.
Indeed, but keep in mind that some of them did nice work and spent a lot of money to keep it reliable, but still threw a rod.

To those who are worried about blowing their engines build your motor first. A 400+ MS3.... I dunno why you would want one.... first gear is useless even at 360HP.... Regardless, 330-360WHP on stock internals I think for the MS3 is enough.
I agree, but I think 330-360whp is a bit optimistic if you want a 100,000 mile engine that doesn't need constant fiddling with to keep running, pass smog checks, etc. It's also too much for a nose heavy FWD car, IMO, unless your only interest is straight line speed.

Fresh out the box, torque steer, under steer, and wheelspin are already a problem. The latter two have simple fixes, but torque steer was a compromise they made to keep the price down. Ford Europe seems to have solved it for the most part with a front suspension redesign, but we're all stuck with Mazda's answer, power limiting. And it doesn't work.

So ya, like I said, if all anyone cares about is doing import drag races, and don't care about warranties, have at it!! But if you want the whole car to be a good daily driver with very good performance, there's still a lot you can do, while keeping the car fun, reliable, comfortable, and covered by the powertrain warranty.

I love really powerful cars but seriously, a FWD car at this price point, is the wrong place to start. That was my point, and no disrespect intended for people who DO want a 400whp MS3, and are willing to spend what it takes to do it properly. Everyone needs a hobby.

SLS, please have the injectors tested since your car is already at the shop. This can be key in the diagnosis.

Cylinder 3 Rod twisted/shattered and put holes in the block. Doesn't seem to be any head damage other than 2 bent valves.

Can you grab some pics of the piston crown and sideskirt that are intact?

Can you also get some pictures of the rod bearings?

I am suspecting the rod was bent prior to it actually letting go as usual.

Any hard driving or issues just prior to the event? Any root cause analysis done?
