flying dipsticks?

anyone experience a dipstick launching on them while the engine is running?

show of hands?

gsrtype1 08-24-2009 04:37 PM

oh shit, this happen to autoex and he cracked a piston. Did you get oil in your engine bay?

rodrigo 08-24-2009 04:40 PM

oh , i wasn't speaking of myself... I was just wondering in general.

flying dipsticks are usually caused by excess in crankcase pressures or lack of proper ventilation.

gsrtype1 08-24-2009 04:42 PM

ahh cool

rodrigo 08-24-2009 04:45 PM

just wait a lil bit..u might hear of some cases real soon.... just a hunch

djuosnteisn 08-24-2009 04:51 PM

Hahahahahahahaha.

Dash08 08-24-2009 04:53 PM

I assume that you assume that this will be a side effect of the new PCV fix.

rodrigo 08-24-2009 04:54 PM

oh we have a pcv fix? I wasn't aware....

GQ_WhiteMS3 08-24-2009 04:56 PM

LOL ... I was thinking the same thing ... it's a "smoking" fix, but could lead to another problem

Dash08 08-24-2009 05:07 PM

A fix is yet to be seen.

did nator put a squid in your intake

GQ_WhiteMS3 08-24-2009 07:03 PM

I thought we didn't blow dipsticks because we're not DSM's?

Hectik1 08-24-2009 07:04 PM

Oh noes!:34:

rodrigo 08-24-2009 07:06 PM

I think those pics need to be moved to "fail thread" hahahahha

Grim 08-24-2009 07:07 PM

i like the bronze painted valve cover and intake manifold......oh wait...

aaronc7 08-24-2009 07:22 PM

after removing the "oil burning fix" (yeah because theres no oil left to burn in the engine), i drove it really hard and dip stick hasnt moved an inch so far, lol.

rodrigo 08-24-2009 07:25 PM

guys, lets not be ridiculously naive here. a dipstick blowing out of its place is indicative of excessive crankcase pressures.....weakest plug will always pop off when there isn't either a pcv system or breathers on the valve cover(s)

jhershorin 08-24-2009 07:25 PM

not to be an ass...but are you worried about the pressure that obviously moved upwards? rings and such?

rodrigo 08-24-2009 07:29 PM

I guess we will soon find out when aaron gets blow by .....

but no I wouldn't worry for the simple fact that the diptick isnt meant to hold any real pressure and the rings obviously are, since gas pressure exerted in the combustion chamber is significantly higher than crankcase pressure.

and I believe (dont quote me on this) crankcase pressure builds up over time as escaped gases fill up the cavity and some bleeds off .....unlike in the combustion chamber that its instantaneous. (or else your dipstick would blow out the second you started the engine, but it takes hundres/thousands of cycles to fill it enough where it pops)

jhershorin 08-24-2009 07:35 PM

Well i know i've got blow by. i removed every accessory off of my motor and have cleaned so much oil out of them. i pulled the valve cover off and filled the shitty baffle design with brake parts cleaner and industrial degreaser i use and watched the coffee sludge come pouring out. i completely cleaned the pcv cover, panel, valve - everything...i'll see how long it takes me to start smoking again from blow by.

rodrigo 08-24-2009 07:44 PM

well u will have blow by immediately, since one must assume your rings ain't sealing worth a shit.

the only thing I can recommend to u is use a breather type of system that has several steps in it (hard for me to describe cuz im a god damn foreigner but bare with me)

if you make a baffling system that is the lowest point of pressure (so gases will have a tendency to go to it rather than elsewhere)

_________

_________

.......__________

__________

.......__________

( the ............ is just to add dead space..sorry i fail at computers)

a baffled system like this that will let the inevitable blow by climb up......BUT will make it difficult for the oil to climb every step of the way up and keep your shit somewhat clean.

and also you can add a sponge like material inside that will further allow gases to travel upward but slow down the oil from climbing.

Speedn3 08-24-2009 08:15 PM

there a quite a few ppl that have installed the pcv "pill". i'm curious to know if anyone else has had this issue.

btw aaron...glad your engine is ok.

numbnuts22715 08-24-2009 08:21 PM

LOLL
AARON YOU FUCKER! WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME THIS?!

it just happened tonight. fml.

SilverDemon 08-24-2009 08:37 PM

Excessive blow by or a clogged PCV valve.......

jhershorin 08-24-2009 08:47 PM

Ya lenny. I need to put a catch can between the intake and valve cover and the pcv to intake manifold. i have two really good catch cans. i just dont really care anymore and im lazy.

phantom3 08-24-2009 08:50 PM

LMAO!

Here's a proper PCV Fix... and I won't charge you 25$
http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...l-pcv-fix.html

Fobio 08-24-2009 08:51 PM

how the fack do you even start to clean that shit up?...that sucks dude...

phantom3 08-24-2009 08:55 PM

I realize what happend!
Everyone was confused with the "Dual CC" install. One catch can goes between the PCV and intake the other goes between the dipstick tube and the intake!

jmhinkle 08-24-2009 09:01 PM

I posted about this a month ago and I was ignored for the most part. I bought a spring from lowe's and strapped the dipstick in. I also installed the PTP fix, but after getting it and discussing it, I theorized that venting to atmospere was a better solution than installing his piece even though I am currently running it.

wakeboarddude 08-24-2009 09:21 PM

Damn that sucks aaron! It looks like a megatron took a piss in your engine bay!

That would be the best thing to do. If people started listening to me, I wouldn't be so crabby and no one would like me then. :)

thanox2 08-25-2009 08:04 AM

Well ... that sucks :( My dipstick din't shoot up but my KR did... upwards 7... around 8... before I let off the throttle... and I bet if I keep going it will go up and up... wtf... took it off and still does the same... now that sucks...

boardjnky4 08-25-2009 02:14 PM

the whole point of the PCV fix released by PTP was to decrease crankcase pressure, and actually create a vacuum in the crankcase...thus allowing the turbo to drain better.

the pill shouldn't be causing crankcase pressure

rodrigo 08-25-2009 02:17 PM

tell that to the flying wallendas

Looks like Aaron is the only one that has had any problems like this. I would have to say that there is something different with his system that is causing this to happen vs the 100's we have sold that have yet to see anything like this.

Its sad that a vendor get treated this way here on the forums, a vendor that is working to fix the problems that Mazda left you with. It equally sad that a moderator would come in here and make a thread like this with out trying to contact us (just got you PM today).

There is a reason we have a money back warranty with these, so send us your part back Aaron and we will get you taken care of, thanks.

It doesn't, we have tested it with the stock system in place and there is just a .5 psi increase in pressure vs it being an open system. There are other issues with Aarons car and the current system he has controlling the cranks case vapors.

The knock is the restrictor working. Everyone that has installed one will see an increase in knock initially, this is the debris in the system (crank case, PCV, manifold, ect) getting cleaned up or sucked into the motor. This is common and everyone that has ran the mod for a few days to weeks has eventually seen the knock go down. It might take some time for the knock to go away but it does eventually.

47 posts and not another single issue with this, and several people have been running them for close to a week now? Seems to be a single issue with just one car, might have some other issues with the car that the pill cannot fix.
