Effin' weird man. Yours is probably an isolated incident, but it would be interesting to see if others got the same results from disconnecting the boost solenoid.

How/where do you have the BCS mounted? If mounted to the firewall, it WILL make noise you can hear easily. It must be mounted on a rubber isolator or on the engine/turbo itself....

Just to clear this up - the solenoid is NOT the source of the rattle many of us are experiencing from the pump.

Anyone ever obtain more data about this?

I've had my KMD internals for a couple thousand miles now and they are pretty damn noisy. They weren't noisy at first, but now they are pretty bad.

I'd like to know definitively if the noise is coming from the pump or the hardline. I know there's a fair amount of flex in that line.

Thats a good point. Didn't even think of that hardline being the source of the noise through some sort of reverb due to the increased weight of the internals.

I think it has more to do with pressure changes in the line, going from 400psi to 1700psi real quick, and vice versa. Who knows... complete guess.

i'm with dustin on that. the only time you hear it rattle is when the pressure increase, at least for me anyways. mine still rattles and is still holding pressure fine.

Well, I get a bit of rattle even at idle now and then. Even more so if I have been romping on it.

the rattle is when you lift not mash and in my case is sustainable with the throttle held in just the right position.

I'm not doing anything scientific here just noticed it the other day.

Hahaha

Actually I'm not surprised with how things go for me. It could be the VVT Actuator i guess. I'll hit forzda up and see how his acted before letting go.

I hope that It will be possible to have a HPFP without this infamous rattle....it's make no sense to me to buy a 700$ pump that make this king of noise. I hope that the Corksport one will not make it

it's not something you hear all the time so it's not a big deal. i only really notice it if i'm listening for it. exhaust drowns it out.

It really isn't a rattle that would be noticeable to anyone not familiar with driving an MS3 with a stock pump.

A passenger would never notice a peep (unless he is an msf.org member) lol.

It's annoying in enclosed spaces like parking lots at low speed. Other than that you don't really hear it.

If you're hearing a constant rattle at idle, it likely isn't the HP fuel pump. Could be the flywheel or the VVT/cam chain....

My VVT was working "perfectly" and then "lost it"... Can't tell you the exact failure, but it was "internal".

Mine was most fun at drive thrus at idle with the A/C on. They usually couldn't understand my order over the speaker.

Thanks for chiming in. Mine noise doesn't occur at idle nor cold starts. It only happens when the car is under slight load and you lift the throttle just a hair, to maintain speed.

If you don't move the throttle nor lose engine load it will continue to rattle

You can totally control the rattle lift a bit, rattle, mash it goes away, lift again, rattle. Very consistent.

I'm not worried about it just wanted to post it here for reference.

Oh, got it. That is a bit different scenario. Hmmm, may be just the spill valve backing off and unloading the pump? It does seem strange that some have the noises and some don't. Maybe it is simple the production variances in the extremely tight tolerances required?

Oh well, if the pump is a pumpin' then all is well!

Very nice description Dano.

I noticed this on my Genpu right after I swapped the fuel pump. I started feeling guilty I break something on a new car with 2000 miles.

I heard it after I installed the pump. I didn't go hard on the car since I was concern that if something is not working properly after the HPFP install, I better don't want to push the engine and put it in High rev.

After like 30 minutes hesitation, engine was still running at idle, I decided to go for a test drive. After the engine warmed up, the noise was barely noticeable the first days.

Now I don't notice it any more because I'm didn't try to reproduce it again. In order to reproduce that noise I hit the throttle very fast and release it. Very fast. Each time I'm pushing the throttle that's when I year that noise.

yeah i just switched out my fuel pump yesterday for the cp-e pump, if i had to describe the noise it would be exactly how dano and bertrand describe it, if i just quickly tap the gas maybe just enough for the boost gauge to hit 0 i hear the said noise right before my intake makes the louder suction noise,

so i guess this is just a normal event and i shouldnt be to worried?

I finished my rebuild and I'm getting this, a lot Bought some etorx sockets so I'll take her out and see whats up. I'll try removing the connector on the solenoid to see if that does anything (the plastic tab broke so its a press fit right now).

Mine is REALLY loud. Sounds like the worst engine knock on cylinder 4. I've been dying to break the engine in but that sound kills it.

Hrm...I am looking to do my KMD Internals soon. the HPFP is all stock in my car for the moment. Got about 136xxx KMs on the car.

Any particular pics wanted? Needed? I know I wanna take the cam lobe shots to see how much wear there is on it after 136xxx KMs.

Anyone ever actually fine a definitive answer to this. Kinda worries me to do the internals and have this happen.

I wouldn't worry about a rattle... when your pump starts sounding like this, let me know.

I still have the rattle. It is still holding pressure. It's been 2 years so far.

that sounds like shit man!

I guess mine is as quiet as a mouse compared to yours. PTP pump FTW!

I have about 20K as well on mine with no issues. * crosses fingers*

Right... It's quieted down now that it's not -40. Pump holds pressure just fine and has for the last 3 years.

hate to bump an old thread....apologies in advance

ive had the rattle at pressure build up for a while now, posted about it in here a while ago

more recently I hear it whenever pressure is high. 1200+psi and it follows the RPM of the engine. It gets drowned out by all the other noises my car makes as the revs climb, but im just wondering if any resolution or follow up inspections were done by anyone else on here.
