FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU 2nd gear/warranty

So, I bought my car with the understanding that it was covered until 100k miles, I call up warranty solutions today and apparently everything other than drive train is covered. WHAT THE FUCK.

My 2nd gear is popping out with any sort of engine breaking. As far as I understand it's the synchros and fork that are fucked. What route should I go for fixing it? New transmission? Or new synchros and a fork?

Anyone know roughly how much I can expect this to cost?

Raider 04-13-2012 06:24 AM

They are retards, I think. It is usually powertrain, nothing else. Time to look up Nator NY to find a better dealer. Get out the original purchase paperwork, too.

alphasaur 04-13-2012 06:28 AM

Sounds good, I bought the car used with 63k in fall and I had the warranty transferred so Ill have to find the transfer papers.

Buy the part from mazda and tear apart yourself or bring the trans to a trans shop and have them rebuild it...

Ingle 04-13-2012 07:49 AM

If you continue driving it the shavings of the synchros/fork will fuck up the remaining 5 gears. Assuming you are extremely lucky and it's only second, the cost with labor parts comes to around 1500-2000. The cost for parts alone is around 2k and the cost of a new transmission is between 2.6k and 5k.

I wish I had better news, but it's not going to be cheap. Ask me how I know..

Yeah, my 2nd gear has been popping out too on my speed six for about 2 weeks, I bought the repair insurance from my bank so we'll see.

OP...Was there a SSP on your car for an extended period of time?

speed3sb 04-13-2012 07:58 AM

Now im not saying it isnt your tranny, But my second gear started popping out at around 28000 miles...I originally thought it was my tranny as well...I did some thinking and thought well what if my rear motormount is broken? Couldnt the torque of the motor cause the gear to pop out under heavy breaking and hard acceleration or just the settling of the car from breaking to acceleration? Well i went and replaced my rear motormount and side mounts as well...And guess what hasent popped out of gear once since then....Before you spend a lot of money try the motormount first...And its an easy install....Goddluck guys!

Well, there are some trannys on ebay for around $1k, I asked my buddy at a shop to see what's up and he's going to get back to me.

Short shifter? Not sure, when I bought it there wasn't one and there isn't now.

leon78 04-13-2012 08:08 AM

I feel like that doesn't add up. All a SSP does is change the geometry of the shifter throw, not anything past that.

Maybe I'm missing something.

It might cause you to shift a little faster due to the shorter throw, and our trans don't like to be rushed.

talking to a few other people, they also said it might be my mounts. Went to check my mounts today and as soon as I went to fondle the passenger mount my finger sunk through and was covered in chocolate milk. Cool.

Just ordered new side mounts and buying adams cp-e rear.

Yayy. Will update this thread when installed.

Get a JBR RMM You will like it.

Mizzle 04-18-2012 09:33 PM

+1 JBR Dogbone.
Also, if it is the trans, time to go for the diesel trans swap.

I did the rear and pmm, and while it's less prone to popping out it still pops out. I still have to install the driver side mount, but my hopes aren't high.
