GHL Catback Issues

Hello all,

So I purchased a GHL Catback for my MS3 Last week and since installing I have ran into the following issues:

1) exhaust rubs in back by the rear suspension.
2) Tip is not centered, is pointing to the right.
3) exhaust is leaking at location where pipe joins with the clamps. (two places)

I have removed and tried to re-installed the CBE over 10 times now (lol) and every single time, the above mentioned keeps on happening.

Has anyone else came across the issues above, or am the first one. I have installed many catbacks in the past and never had any issues even generic eBay brand named ones.

Thanks,

what's your dp & mid pipe - stock or aftermarket?

TurboXS Downpipe and Testpipe, I had no issues with them on my stock CBE.

I have a MS6 and I had some issues with my GHL rubbing on against the underside of the body but was able to bend it out of the way.

if you're hitting the suspension, have a muffler shop bend or soften the hanger and push the pipe up a bit. the exhaust shop that i went to had to torch the hanger a bit to soften it. then just push it up until you have enough clearance.

i don't know of the ghl uses the flat type flange that txs and the hks uses or if it uses the overlapping style like cpe and the stock does -
i've had some issues with making the overlapping style flanges match up to flat style ones - if they aren't the same, this can throw everything else out of wack - because it shifts where vibrations are sent - the flat to flat connections have flex couplers built in so they transfer the vibration somewhere else - so they use just bolts, nuts, and washers - where as the overlapping flanges are actually made to flex themselves so they use the bolts with the springs on them
i know the connection points seem like they don't really matter, but they really do - if you don't use the right types with right hardware you get noises & issues

I've got the GHL for my MS3. I'm planning on refitting it tonight but some of the issues I hope to take care of tonight are:

- Hitting something. Not sure what yet. Only happens when I start from a stop at a certain rpm.
- Exaust tip is not centered. Comes out too far to the right.
- Exaust tip sticks out too far. I'm going to try to fit it off the car because when it's on the car at the connection above the rear alex it doesn't go in enough. End result might be cutting about 2 inches off to make it fit better.

As far as I know there are no exaust leaks but when I put it back together I'm going to check again.

my exhaust is hitting my the rear suspension area, by the hanger area.

I had a GHL i sold to someone else on this forum.. What i will tell you is this.. Fitament sucks... I had to use a heat resistant material to buffer the pipe hitting the suspension in the rear. The tip is a joke, so i cut it off and welded a 3 inch inner diameter to 4" outter diameter tip, which i found on ebay for about $27 shipped. Looked IDENTICAL to the one GHL uses as well. Exhaust is extremely loud and i hated it.

I have been finding out alot of people have fitment issues with this CBE not just me. I probably just need to deal with them and fix them.

So I just got done trying to fix the fitment issues I listed above. I cut off about 1.75 inches on the mid section of the exaust and then ground down the tube where it mates to the one above the rear axel, otherwise it wouldn't slide together.

The exaust tip is now where it should be, not sticking out so far and is now in the center. When I took my exaust off I didn't notice it hitting against the suspension area. There were no marks on the piping and I couldn't get it to hit the suspension. I did notice there were some of those heat shields that were right up next to it so I bent those out of the way. I didn't have time to do a test drive but it looks promising. Also there are no exaust leaks. Oh, and it is mated to a CPE DP.

so i fixed the leaks, now i have to fix the rubbing and the tailpipe being off-centered.
