GM/Penzoil Synchromesh 2 Attachment(s) Well, I searched a bit because I seem to remember someone talking about putting this in their transmission to see how it does. anyways its like 7.50 a quart at autozone or advance auto, so 23.00 for a change, no friction modifier yet. I will say I have heard good things about this stuff before on other forums, dsm is one that i noted in particular, its not gl4 or gl5 but it says it is safe for all "yellow metals" which most take to mean as brass. I was thinking our synchros are brass maybe i am wrong. So, I decided I wanted to give it a shot, fluid change not a problem, used this procedure from mazdas247 my bad for the plug but we dont have one and I didnt do one. HOW TO: Tranny fluid change on MS3 instead of a socket to get the drain bolt off I used an open ended wrench, which was all my buddy had, no problems there, once most was drained I opened the filler bolt and lowered the car a bit, drank a cold one. used a filter with a clear tube attached from autozone...worked awesome 4.99 filled about 2.5 quarts, and checked the fill hole and it was coming out, so I put the bolt back in tightened it up and all is good to go. INITIAL IMPRESSIONS.......it feels about the same, maybe a little smoother right now, but I didnt drive it very far to get home, so it didnt warm up much, transmission case was relatively warm though. Gears did seems to engage a little smoother, and with my trz tranny mount the noise seemed slightly decreased from before with stock fluid. I noticed when draining stock fluid it appeared very clean, so that was nice, but it was at 30000 miles, so i figured it was a good time for a change.. as it breaks in I will update, all seems well now, and I want to go drive it some more so i think i will....might add some FISH OIL if I notice any increased lsd noise, but so far so good. dont tell mazda |
well, I have put about 300 miles on it at this point, and it feels roughly the same as what was in there before. We had that cold snap that im sure everyone on the east coast got sunday through today, cold start was no problem, it went right into first and second with no hesitation. That is very different from what I was getting with the stock oil or whatever was in the tranny before I changed it, all through the winter I was having trouble engaging first and second in the morning and afternoon with cold weather which is a subjective term(below freezing still). Lsd whine is there as it was before, so I think I will get a bottle of friction modifier and try that out soon. Anyways, seems good but not a major improvement apart from the cold start, which won't be a problem soon anyways. |
I saw this at auto zone and I had heard great things about it in honda/acura transmissions. I also had a guy tell me mobile 1 75w-90 was about the same quality as the ford redline stuff, so I may try that out. Good to see that it works better in the cold. |
I run this in my rx7 transmission, and have run it in other trannies as well. It's great stuff. |
