greddy oil catch can

i recently bought a greddy oil catch can and i just did the install today. I feel kind of silly asking this now but after i did the install i started to wonder if it matters which tube i use for the inlet and which for the outlet. it wasnt labeled on the can and there was no directions with it at all. it seems to be working okay so far..........but then again im not sure how to tell if it wasnt working okay. if anyone has this catch can i would appreciate any information or suggestions about the set up of the hoses on to the can. thanks guys!

No it doesn't matter which hose goes into the inlet or outlet. The catch can isn't a complicated mod at all. All it does is filter the liquid oil out of the intake stream, but lets the fumes back into the engine to be burned off in the exhaust. I'm sure you did it right. Keep checking back to see if oil is draining in to the can. If in a few weeks- a month there is none, then you did something wrong. I've had the same catch can on for about 3 months now and I think it works nicely.

hey thanks man good to know! Now I was looking at it today and i noticed a little bit of oil (or gas) pooling in the hose where it dips to a low spot. I guess ill just have to keep an eye on it and see if it causes a blockage. If it does I guess I will just have to find a way to mount my catch can in a lower spot.

Lower is always better but the CC you got will only catch a small portion of the oil. There is no separation plate in the CC to keep the dry side separate from the wet side.

What kind of clear hoses are you running that will not be impacted by the vacuum and the fuel and oil vapors?

I ended up going with 5/8 fuel line that is rated for gasohol. I believe it is a fuel hose for marine engines.

i picked up some 5/8 high pressure tubing from home depot. its the same stuff greddy sends with their catch can so i figure it'll do fine. As for the greddy not catching too much oil... do you have a suggestion as to which can to use that might do a better job? thanks for the help!

Make sure your PCV is installed correctly, lower your catchcan, put machine shavings in the catchcan to distill vapors.

Some people will put steel wool in catch cans that do not have any baffles in them to help precipitate the oil and other fumes.

I would suggest that you keep your eyes on any tubing you buy from Home Depot. If it is not designed for fuel/oil environments you may run into trouble. I have read of quite a few people using general tubing and the oil and fuel fumes start dissolving the hose. The descriptions claim that the outside of the hose starts feeling oily or slick and it is due to the hose breaking down from the solvents. The hose also needs to be stiff. High pressure does not necessarily mean that it will not collapse under vacuum. Adding the second PCV valve at the top of the hose will help with this problem. ** Correction - the second PCV valve just keeps the turbo from pressurizing the hose and the catch can - brain fart on my part.

thanks for the input guys. I do have the second pcv and it is installed correctly. I'll be keeping an eye on the hose on a regular basis as it is easily accessible.
