Green Fluid leak 4 Attachment(s) Hi, I searched up some Q's and a lot of people are saying a greenish fluid is going to be usually coolant. I checked all my fluid reservoirs and the ONLY green fluid i have is Power Steering Fluid. And I currently just started leaking out of no where. Got home, parked it in the garage, and i usually check my engine and pop the hood to help it cool down a bit and i noticed there was a green fluid leak on the floor and i can tell it JUST started leaking as I parked it, only because the fluid was still slowly flowing. Cleaned up some of it, and it looks like it stopped leaking but idk wth happened... Do you guys know what this fluid is or where its even coming from? I'm currently looking up ways to check/remove the reservoir and/or find the pump. Like i said, the only green fluid i see is the reservoir I'm pointing at, and thats the power steering fluid reservoir. |
I doubt you have green power steering fluid... Anyway, yeah, it's likely coolant. The FL22 is a darker shade than your typical green coolant. I see NO fluid in your coolant reservoir in the picture you provided, so it's a safe bet that that's what you're leaking. Coolant also has a sickly sweet smell to it which should be pretty prevalent if it's leaking and the engine's hot... |
How old is your car? The reservoir's are notorious for becoming brittle and cracking after a couple years. That would be were I put my money. |
Please follow these 2 lines and see if you see any signs of wear, tear, cracks, etc. Report back with findings. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05...aa61ca8512.jpg |
Is there a thread on here to show/explain how to remove the reservoir and how to follow the lines all the way down and what not? I can't find anything, i can only find how to flush. Sorry for being such a noob :( |
if that's not coolant, then a mini-hulk is squatting and peeing in your engine bay. but hey if the steering fluid is green, you can't rule that out. there are two metal clips holding the reservoir down, one in the back and one on the side (passenger). push them toward the reservoir and lift. you can use an appropriate tool to wedge between the metal and plastic to assist with this as well (just don't gouge or break the plastic). as for the hoses, it would help to get beneath the car. rhino ramps ftw. |

indeed. there will be a bunch of 10mm bolts and a couple of phillips pops screws. pretty straight forward. bricks don't sound safe. be careful. |

-Remove the two 10mm bolts. -Insert flat bladed screwdriver into power steering reservoir retaining tab and rock it back and forth while pulling upwards until it's free. -Repeat the above procedure to free the coolant reservoir of it's retaining tab. In all seriousness, you're probably wasting your time doing this on a car that's sitting with a cold engine. The best time to search for coolant leaks is after the vehicle's been run and the engine is warm. If there's nothing leaking/dripping you won't be able to find the source... Make sure you top off the coolant reservoir. You can use water if you don't have any -- preferably distilled. |

When I was in 7th grade, there was a 9th grader with the locker next to mine. usually saw him once or twice a day. Dawned on me I hadn't seen him for a few days, asked another 9th grader I knew where he was. Dead,.... under a car, that was held up by a jack if you need to stay cheep, at leas slide a wheel under there somewhere it will at least maintain the minimum required thickness for your skull, and cardiovascular systems to function |
Harbor freight jack stands are decent. If you get the bigger ones, they're more sturdy and you don't have to extend them. I cut the tops of mine off so they didn't dig into the chassis. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05...8c78e3d882.jpg Holy upside down picture batman. |
Saddest thread ever. |
LOL, if you just get under the car with the bottom cover off it would probably be very obvious where the leak is coming from. I had to replace the upper and lower radiator hoses about 10K miles ago since the upper hose split open. I'm over 150K now. |
I didn't get to go under the car, but I can clearly see a hole where the fluid is dripping from. I have yet to take my under tray out. I'm hoping this leak isn't going to cause me so much because my car just keeps being a princess and is constantly on its period with different leaks. I have yet to still fix my shaft pivot seal for my trans leak. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

http://www.mazdaspeedforums.org/foru...t-here-125121/ In there it's spelled out what to look for when purchasing a USED MS3 which is what you have. Since you bought one that has issues, you're going to have to fix them before you can actually enjoy the car. Don't blame the car for the problems you are having. |

I will and thank you! I'm not blaming my baby for her problems, im calling her a princess for all the random/sudden needs shes been giving me lately. I bought her and it's just under a year of owning her and she recently just started, but I love her and as much as my parents suggest I sell her, I do not want to let her go. I'll start on the intro thread asap and read up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
