Heavy Shift Knob that doesn't cost $100+ How many people would be interested? What design do you like? What type of finish? (stainless, black, etc) Personally, I like the look of black annodized. Thanks Scott |
I would definitely be interested Just like the TWM Big type r in stainless steel! |
me too |
Anodized black with red gear pattern. That would look clean. Maybe include a cheap little shift knob cover to keep it from getting hot while not in use. Or make one seperately if that's asking too much for under $100 bucks. |
id be interested as long as it doesent roast in the summer heat. |

you just want a super cheap cover? or maybe embroidered with the mazdaspeed logo? |
round, black, red gear pattern. I will buy one |
how bout black with custom gear pattern colors? |
im down |
I'm not going to do a bunch of custom gear color stuff. I'm an engineer/machinst, not an artist. lol. back when I used to do model cars, you could get a detail brush and a bottle of testor's paint from the hobby store for about $8. Voila, custom colors for your pattern. |

Stainless steel/anodized black + engraved pattern thats all! |
Leather-covered or rubberized would be awesome. Maybe you guys in the north or mid-west don't care, but there's no way to have a naked metal shift knob in the south-west. You'd get 2nd degree burns while shifting. I can barely touch the top of my stock knob as it is. |
+1 for leather, I hate burning my hand. +1 for using redline goods so it matches all their shit that I already have in my car. |
id def be down im looking now as we speak... so im ready |
hey i got this a few years back on sr20forum from some guy who said he contracted a little old lady to make them. at the time you could choose solid color, or multi. there was a spoon color scheme, mazdaspeed color scheme and here is the nismo color scheme i got it cost me 7 dollars shipped for two of them ( i also got a greddy blue one for my friend). not saying this is what ya'll want but its a option. it stretches enough to fit my greddy knob (a big ball) and even keeps your hand from freezing in the winter not to mention the summer burn. the two strings are for tightening it and i havent ever had it slip off. anyhow pics and good luck... http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...P1060566-1.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...9/P1060570.jpg |
Interested. |
how about the shiny blackish stainless steel color. color of the NIssan GT-R wheels. if so, id be down. like this http://www.twmshiftknobs.com/shiftkn...zEzNDk4ZGRmY2I |

If we do the cover, it will be very clean. I have some ideas on it thanks to my wife ;) |
So is this a go.. should i wait or should i just go with twm? |
shift pattern is a must cause u dont want some idiot getting in your car and putting it into 6th thinking hes going to go in reverse. a good example of this would be valet |
you guys let valet drive your cars? lol I used to work valet. I would NEVER let valet behind the wheel of my car after that. also, what's the cost going to be? |
I have a TWM Big Type R that sits outside in 110 Arizona heat all day, it's like touching a hot frying pan. I use one of those ipod sock covers, although I got it from my nephew and it has a Scion patch on it. It fits good and doesn't slip much. |
+1 on black w/ red pattern |

What weight are we talking about here? |
Could you put this "M" on the top of the shift knob instead of a pattern? http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...aspeed3034.jpg |

|
I would definitely be interested in this. |

that M is hideous please just do it blank |

I prefer a nice black and white leather version to match my interior, but I dont see that happening for me. |

Maybe hit up an upholstery shop or something? It's worth a shot. |

It's still a matter of opinion and nobody gives a fuck about yours. So, pretty please with sugar on top, shut the fuck up and get back to the topic at hand. |

It couldn't cost too much to have something like that sewn up. Quote:

I'm going to do one knob for now. 6 speed pattern on top. Black (most likely). Anyone that wants custom options, can take them to their local powdercoater. |

depends on the Lot and such but ya generally i wouldnt trust a valet. i usually watch them stall mine a few times then go in. i dont gove a flying fuck btw SKEET... i have a beanie for my shift knob too. this chick made me one. haha ill have to find it and take some pics. |
"shift me" is fucking hilarious. since everybody wants different shit engraved, or not at all, why not just blank and you can get it engraved locally? |
Quote:
|
gunmetal or black with red engraving would be awesome...will the knob be direct fit or does it have to be adjustable by screws |
just keep it cheap. weighted with no design or pattern. everyone wins. |
I'm definitely interested in this. Screw paying for a shift knob that's 120+ |
i'd be in. blank would probably be better for most and it'll also allow you to sell it for other cars as well as the regular mz3. |
lemmie know if anyone has a clean stock shifter they want to get rid of for cheap |
shift me is awesome that would make a good plate too! |
ok. I am going to make a few up this week. I will also post a picture with a solution to keep it cool that will be included for free. |
My center cap with the shift patteren keeps coming off, glued it back on twice now! Holding out and hoping this will be worth my wild. |

any updates? |
in process good sir. I'm making them out of 303 stainless (heaviest metal that doesn't cost 2 arms and 3 legs) and machining time is slow on stock that hard. They're looking nice though. The "burn preventer" is good and will be a super cheap and easy solution. (will be included for free) |
any sneak peaks on the over all design, or will we have to wait for the final product? |
Interested. I'll stay tuned for pics. and weight. Thanks |

I'd be very interested too. Simple, cheap, and no engraving would be my choice |
I'm interested. Please don't make it look like any of the TWM knobs and make it so heavy that I have to use both hands. Kthx. |

alright, got the materials pricing and machine time done. It's looking like right around $80 including the "heat/cold protector." Prototype was 635 grams. Going to keep it as close to prototype as possible. Side note, it happens to fit the 350z, 370z, evo 8, evo 9, and a few other cars too :) |
Can't wait to see it! That is nice and heavy. |
bulk material on the way. |
Copy the COBB knob but use Red instead of blue on the bottom. Ill buy |

Once the knobs are done and back here from black annodizing, then we will start offering them for sale. WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING PAYMENT UNTIL THEY ARE READY TO SHIP. NO PRE-ORDERS. Thanks Scott |
how much would it cost to get a plastic, leather wrapped knob, filled with lead! lead is cheap right! :ban: |
Can't wait to see it! Post some pics asap please even if they're non-annodized knobs. Thanks |
in for picssssssss |
ready in time for x-mas? i like |

oh, it's coming. Just you wait... |
Are you sure they can anodize 303? As far as I know (which doesn't mean I know this for a fact) aluminum and titanium anodize, but not stainless. |

I'll be doing more work when I get back from SEMA. I have a lot of new ideas and products. I'm actually at APEXX which will bring you guys some cool parts from overseas. |
Interested to see what you come up with. I can't stand the TWM personally, and the AutoExe is about the only thing I'd buy. I'm all for more options though. Mush, I had one of those knobs in my Protege. Really nice and never got hot/cold. |
I'm definitely down for this. A knob+shift plate package would be awesome as well. I'd put money down today for that. |
I agree... Throw some shifter bushings and a shifter weight in the mix too |
Well, lets see, after these are done, we will have the following products as a possible set: Shifter Knob Shifter Weight I guess we could make a shift plate. I'd say cost on that would be around $50 edit: Our shifter comes with the bushings unlike the other guys. If there is enough interest, we could do bushings seperate for like $15. |
Quote:
|
the weight will be ready very soon too |
You mentioned a cover for when it's hot/cold outside. Will you be selling that separately for people who already like their knobs? That didn't sound right....... |
Quote:
|
Don't forget who suggested the cover idea. <<<<-----ahem LOL! |
Since its stainless, I wonder if you can ceramic coat it... that would probably keep it cool. |

Still interested in seeing this |

I have to be honest. I don't like the "Type R" shape. |
Indeed, but Ive always been a fan of ball shaped knobs. |
