Huge update:

My HPFP has to be malfunctioning.

Towed it to the new shop and same shit. dumping smoke, wont idle, running rough.

clean maf: same thing

boss has me crank it and he pulls the connector to the hpfp and it starts running perfectly.
Idles great for about 20 mins and then it sputters out.

I took a datalog after I got it running but I left the ap down at the shop on accident.

Heard some odd noises coming from the timing section or possibly from the lifters.

What in the Sam Hell would cause my car to run great with the hpfp connector disconnected?!
if its idling as soon as it gets plugged in it dies out.

My hpfp is a cpe so I dont want to break into it and void my warranty.

I think the cels I had yesterday were due to key being on and me pulling connectors to check voltage.

Last log wasn't reading any fuel pressure at all, so it was probably pegging out fuel pressure and trying to run high IDC...which would make it ridiculous rich. When you pull the spill valve plug it drops to ITFP pressure which will run normally even with high idc at idle.

I'm still thinking it's electrical. Harness, sensor, ground, or ECU. Possibly multiple issues, both mechanical and electrical.

IDC?
I'm just really not sure where to go from here. Besides the noise under the valve cover everything seems to be running fine.
What should the voltage of the hpfp connector read?
That's one thing I can easily test while the car is running and check the ground.
Where should I go from here?
I think I may have to call CPE and see if they have any ideas... I want to think its a hpfp malfunction but I'm not sure.

I absolutely agree with you. Something isn't quite right.

I guess I could ghetto rig some sort of wire with a terminal on both ends hook it to both sides of hpfp positive side (pin on pump and wire harness), then hook the ground side up to the pin on hpfp and ground it to the block somewhere and start it up.

That would rule a bad ground. But I tested it on the power probe and ground looked good so idk.

If it runs off 12v I could hook 2 wires up to both pins and hook up a battery jumper to it..
Don't know if that one would work tho.

Yeah , so after popping these codes into search I came back to a thread from 2009 (again, three times now) with darksun calling dead ecu, and another dude calling eng bar 1 fuse

I've been popping that fuse since the build fired back up melted the cheep fuse that comes with the add a fuse tap, blew a 15, thenI put a 30 amper in there and got my intake set right, with a good honeycomb, reflased the tuners map, running not bad, ran some errands pulled 3 MAF CAL logs, called it a day.
this morn, actually put the bumper back on (forgot the styrofoamgrrr) and tossed in fresh pads, put the new fender liner in from rock.
fired it up, headed out to get propane.. coughs and quits right in front of the house, eng bar 1 fuse is good, its effing dead, and I got these codes again proly toasted something the lighter fuses were protecting

Ill go thru it again in the am, but this unreliability is killing my brain the highs and lows

with yours, I had left that clip off once along time ago by accident, can't remember if it just wouldnt start, or just idled and died

running 20 min and then quitting is super wierd, this car seems to me to be a black or white beast. and finicky as fuck have you been able to catch a fuel pressure log?

sure would be nice if that mmds system at the dealer could actually test a PCM for faults, I'm really starting to think I have some

Im crashin man, later

I'd replace the entire harness to rule that out first. Also properly ground everything. See if anyone local is in the middle of an engine swap.

As far as I know there is no one locally that even has a speed in Santa Cruz.

I just realized that I have an extra wire harness for the coil packs and all that stuff from a blown engine I bought off craigslist.
I will swap it over and see if it makes a difference... fingers crossed.

Does anyone know if the ecu's are plug and play? just out of curiosity could you plug one in and run it or does it have to be programed?

Again, it's not the pump. CPE will tell you so. Something is wrong with your wiring, ECU or rail pressure sensor at a minimum.

Based on those codes it looks like you damaged the connector to the TB sensor if you never had them before you cracked the locking tab?

EDIT: Brainfart posting this. Didn't see page 2 haha oopps

So fucking happy got it all figured out.

After pulling off the cpe hpfp and talking to their tech he helped me narrow it down. Switched out the fuel sensor on the fuel rail and fired her up and it started running perfectly with fuel pressure!

Didnt have time to bleed the clutch so I will have to wait to drive it but im so happy.

Small oil look and a slightly larger coolant leak both coming from the turbo but I will get those figured out next week and take it from there.

thanks for the help from everyone I should have changed that stupid sensor from the start. All it took was a 1 1/16" socket and I was able to slip it under the intake mani really easy.

how do the logs look?

Thats good news man.

So after changing the fuel sensor ALL of those codes disappeared?

the codes were due to me trying to check voltage and ground of my electrical stuff while the car was KOEO.

I was frustrated and didnt put 2 and 2 together.

Let her run for about 20 mins and everything looked great. I gotta find where the coolant leak is coming from.

I have a minor oil leak as well and its coming from my damn oil return line so I gotta get that figured out too.

And of course bleed the clutch and put the new slave on and then time for the maiden voyage.
