help me decide...

i really like the ms3, i took it for a test drive 2 weeks ago and i love everything about it. but iv been readin some posts on here and im havin second thoughts. i wana buy a decent car which i can eventually mod, but from some of the threads iv read, this car seems to be havin problems with minor mods. i dont wana buy a car and end up havin serious engine problems after a few bolt ons. i just want some reassurance in this vehicle. can anyone please tell me about ther mods and if they have been havin serious issues or not?

when i see people like you contemplating on a new car...i always say wait for the 2010 ms3 but now that i saw what it's going to be like, dont bother waiting...in my opinion it comes down to 2 choices...cobalt is out of the picture cuz it's too ugly to be in a picture...it's either the ms3 or the 09 wrx...09 wrx is faster from a dig...ms3 is faster from a roll...09 wrx is new and there has been issues with the new models already, typical for new model cars. I haven't heard of any issues with the 09 ms3s..i have the 08.5 ms3 and never had any problem. But no one has figured out why there has been plenty of engines blown with these cars...so either way ur taking a risk. Iny mini myni mo...09 ms3 or 09 wrx.

its all about budget. for 23k and mild mods this car is best. for major mods, move on and save dough

ive had my mgm ms3 gt for 2 months. mods in sig. only prob so far is some minor phantom kr. since no one really knows what this means, i aint sweatin it. love the car so far. tons o power and looks sharp. just waxed it 2 days ago;) keep in mind when your reading threads that its a tiny percentage of owners that are on here..... even smaller percentage w/blown engines. if your that worried about it, wait till your warranty is up before you start modding. this car didnt win best in class C&D mag 3 years straight for no reason.

i agree with lenny. i haven't seen many ppl claim disappointment with a mildly modified ms3. the concerns of engine failure are less while the car is plenty fast/fun.

if you want a 400whp beast, however, you should prolly switch platforms. several users on here have done just that because the ms3 doesn't make BIG power on the stock internals like a caliber srt4 or evo can.

that said, there are ppl hard at work to 'crack' the ms3's limitations b/c, if you consider what the internals are, there's more power to be had.

IMHO cobalts aren't too special. they make more power than ms3's.. for now. and they're ugly and don't have an awesome alcantara interior like the ms3 does. the OP will buy what he likes better, and it's a matter of personal preference. i WILL say, however, that i see ms3's around town on a daily basis while i see boy racer'd cobalts once a month.

I haven't had any issues. 18K miles
